Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which is electronic music inspired by great games such as the Final Fantasy series. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
I got this game when I was a kid by accident. I was looking for games like Super Mario RPG, and I'd only heard Final Fantasy was a great franchise. I felt like I'd been ripped off at first and almost returned it to the store. When I gave it a chance, though, it actually grew on me. Repetitive with a cheesy story, yes, but the music is some of the best out there. And there's something oddly charming about such a basic game.
@megagrey not even remotely true. the decision to make this game and the decision to not bring over FFV were unrelated. Square tried 4 times to bring FFV over in the 90s, first as Final Fantasy III, then as Final Fantasy Extreme, and then 2 attempts at a pc version, but it just didn't work out.
Easy to forget this game is RPG kindergarten, a good starting point for new players to the genre. I think this game was undermarketed and has some of the best music in any video game ever
I remember there was a cave early in the game that would let you enter a room to the final castle. I used to enter it just listen to the music. Def a classic 16 bit tune!
This game is easy to beat, but it's also easy to die. I can play through and beat Chrono Trigger without getting a Game Over once but with FFMQ that's simply not going to happen to anybody, no matter how good you are at RPGs. This is because FFMQ leaves almost everything to chance.
This is a good game though, if you turn it on with an open mind. Don't expect too much or too little with this one.
Loved this game as a kid...I didn't even know it was supposed to be "easy". I just rented it because it looked sweet and I had loads of fun playing it. Still stands as one of the best FF "offshoot" titles..if not the best,
Apart from the ridiculously easy last boss, it's true that the japanese make things differrent in particular for USA. This game was definitely a tad harder than most RPGS in it's era, (the four main bosses were really tough) not only that, but their is a large use of guitar in most of the tracks I guess they thought guitars are really american. I never used to beleive it but most japanese rpgs are made harder before they to the US.
@popimpi this is the way it is now, certainly, but at this time this game was actually made because it's subtaintially easier than the core final fantasy series games. final fantasy IV was changed to be significantly easier and simpler because they thought americans were too laxy and stupid to be able to play the real version. This was a simple final fantasy game for americans; and it's very easy. But nowadays, the opposite is true. (USA versions are harder)
Actually the American SMB2 is a fake of the Japanese game Doki Doki Panic. Expect for the characters Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad, there are only slightly differences. The real SMB2 from Japan is called "SMB The Lost Levels" In Europe/USA. Anyways SMB2 or Doki Doki Panic is a great game either, though I prefer Mystic Quest and this music :D
While not the first RPG I ever played, it's definitely up there as being one of the most memorable for me. I friggin' loved this game, and this was my favorite song. I'd go in the damn castle just to listen to this song lol.
This tune is very underrated not very often you see this on someones list. I think it's epic and I have used it many times to listen to on Wow in the instances with boring music but this tune always keeps me going forward. And FF MQ is a great first time RPG to play on snes.
Eh, I stand by it. It's been known for years now (hell, it was explicitly admitted to at one point by the team behind the game) that the only reason the game was so ridiculously easy was because Japanese game designers thought American game players were too impatient and slow to be able to play a real RPG.
Given the choice between assuming they were just a bunch of arrogant dicks, or believing that at least one of them put in awesome music as a throwaway apology, I'll stick with my belief.
That's a good point. I always did think the Japanese kind of looked down their noses at us in this regard, and that always ticked me off. It would be nice to know that at least one of those developers thought excellent music would counterbalance the weak gameplay. Eiher way you go, the soundtrack is still unbelieveably good.
Your probably right, it still is one of my favorites though, simply because the soundtrack is kick ass, considering how little effort the seemed to put into the rest of the game. Speaking of the length of the game, that was alright to, I could blow through the whole thing on a decent afternoon/evening and hear all the great music.
This song caught me by surprise while I was going through the list on autoplay, yet I recognized it immediately. I haven't even played the game since I was seven, since it belonged to my sister and she lives three provinces away from me now. Ah, the nostalgia...
It's like the Japanese realized halfway through creating this game that its ridiculously easy difficulty level might offend the Americans who could actually play RPGs, so they included the best goddamn awesome soundtrack they could as an apology.
Japan, on behalf of America: Apology accepted. Keep 'em coming.
"Japan, on behalf of America: Apology accepted. Keep 'em coming."
I must disagree, and you definitely don't speak for America, in jest or otherwise. Yeah, the soundtrack was solid, but the rest of the game was a joke; Mario RPG had it beat in every conceivable way in that whole "starter RPG" niche and came out only a few years after.
It's about as sound as yours, actually. Neither your nor my views can be "proven" one way or another in a way that would satisfy any real debate, so trying claim your argument is somehow more "logical" is laughable. You like Mystic Quest, cool. I think there are quite a few better games out there that targeted the same audience, but that's just my opinion.
Obviously I shouldn't have posted a dissenting opinion on a Mystic Quest video, as the majority here think as you do. Fair enough.
Your reasoning is that there is a game with better music. Well Super Mario RPG had great tracks, there's no doubt. But does that mean that this is awful? No it doesn't. Yes it's personal opinion, but a positive opinion about one soundtrack shouldn't mean the other soundtrack is bad. That logic would mean any game with a soundtrack not as "good" as Super Mario RPG is awful.
I read that the game was designed for entry-level characters. Hence the ease. It wasn't the best game Square made by a long shot, but it wasn't without its charm. If you're into emulation, give it a download and play it for about 15 minutes.
i like the song... HATE the game. this game is an insult to FF fans... even more so than FFXII (which, despite the super dumbed down combat and overly feminine main character, still had an intriguing storyline.)
Nothing was wrong with FFXII combat system, you can play that damn boring ass random battles, and turnbased shit for so long. I rather enjoyed the combat system.
what? haha? what the fuck are you talking about?...haha if you are umm commenting on the box art image above, that is from the Gameboy version...thus you must be a n00b. The SNES version was the bomb...but make your low IQ comment, it is amusing to those of us with brains. We laugh at you. Ha Ha Ha.
ohhh i get it now, sorry i dont play the new FFs because they are so gay and have blonde haired faggots as the lead. You are right bohemian joe I must have been really high or drunk then . Fuck the new FFs Mystic Quest it the shiznattt.
