  • ah, i have this game. this song is the best thing about it.

  • I vote for re-release of Mystic Quest, but with better graphics, difficulty levels, and some stuff added/fixed. And of course the music revamped.

  • @letsgojess i agree

  • @letsgojess I think the video making area of Square in U.S. is pretty much dead, so not gonna happen :(.

  • Kefka's Tower eat your heart out

  • Man, I played the **** out of this game. The thing that struck me the most is how high quality the music is.

  • A Final Fantasy game with music not written by Uematsu yet it contains some of my most favorite FF tracks of all time!

  • I got this game when I was a kid by accident. I was looking for games like Super Mario RPG, and I'd only heard Final Fantasy was a great franchise. I felt like I'd been ripped off at first and almost returned it to the store. When I gave it a chance, though, it actually grew on me. Repetitive with a cheesy story, yes, but the music is some of the best out there. And there's something oddly charming about such a basic game.

  • I got this game for $5 back in the day since my friend hated it so much. His loss.

  • @ScrewedUpClickFan And America's loss that this is what we got instead of Final Fantasy 5.

  • @megagrey not even remotely true. the decision to make this game and the decision to not bring over FFV were unrelated. Square tried 4 times to bring FFV over in the 90s, first as Final Fantasy III, then as Final Fantasy Extreme, and then 2 attempts at a pc version, but it just didn't work out.

  • This should have been the final boss theme

  • Easy to forget this game is RPG kindergarten, a good starting point for new players to the genre. I think this game was undermarketed and has some of the best music in any video game ever

  • When I first heard this theme I sat there like "OMFG!" and listened to the music for a really long time. That's how good it is.

  • this game has such epic tracks.

  • I remember there was a cave early in the game that would let you enter a room to the final castle. I used to enter it just listen to the music. Def a classic 16 bit tune!

  • @raidercity Focus Tower - there was a room leading a portion of the Doom Castle that had a treasure box.

  • I love how this song starts with Gutsman's ass.

  • @lolluo LOL it totally does!

  • Mystic quest has great music, even though Uematsu did do it, it's a great game, ignore the haters Mystic Quest is a GEM in every way!

  • This game is easy to beat, but it's also easy to die. I can play through and beat Chrono Trigger without getting a Game Over once but with FFMQ that's simply not going to happen to anybody, no matter how good you are at RPGs. This is because FFMQ leaves almost everything to chance.

This is a good game though, if you turn it on with an open mind. Don't expect too much or too little with this one.

  • man I remember this game waaaayyy back .. forgot the story but it was a good game I know that much.

  • I considered this apart of the Final Fantasy universe a lot more than I consider that over hyped, sorry mess of an RPG Final Fantasy 13 any day!

  • 1 down now... but not by me ! ;)

  • 86 thumbs up and no thumbs down. Oh yes.

  • @calvinsora101 89 - 0 now. :)

  • Wow. I forgot about this little tune.

  • I used to just turn the game on and go somewhere with cool music and cracnk it and let it loop. love this shit.

  • Loved this game as a kid...I didn't even know it was supposed to be "easy". I just rented it because it looked sweet and I had loads of fun playing it. Still stands as one of the best FF "offshoot" titles..if not the best,

  • Apart from the ridiculously easy last boss, it's true that the japanese make things differrent in particular for USA. This game was definitely a tad harder than most RPGS in it's era, (the four main bosses were really tough) not only that, but their is a large use of guitar in most of the tracks I guess they thought guitars are really american. I never used to beleive it but most japanese rpgs are made harder before they to the US.

  • @popimpi this is the way it is now, certainly, but at this time this game was actually made because it's subtaintially easier than the core final fantasy series games. final fantasy IV was changed to be significantly easier and simpler because they thought americans were too laxy and stupid to be able to play the real version. This was a simple final fantasy game for americans; and it's very easy. But nowadays, the opposite is true. (USA versions are harder)

  • Yep.

  • I allways found it so priceless that FF:Mystic Quest was called "Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest - USA" in Japan. ^^

  • More than the fact than SMB2 is called Super Mario Bros. USA?

  • @Roboshom

It was? Wow, someone in Japan gotta really hate good 'ol Amerika

  • @Ashadow700

Actually the American SMB2 is a fake of the Japanese game Doki Doki Panic. Expect for the characters Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad, there are only slightly differences. The real SMB2 from Japan is called "SMB The Lost Levels" In Europe/USA. Anyways SMB2 or Doki Doki Panic is a great game either, though I prefer Mystic Quest and this music :D

  • never played this one. listened to a couple of this games soundtrack and it sounds awesome thx for the upload

  • Definitely worthy of the name "Doom Castle Theme"

  • Wow, this song rocks! I never played all the way through this one, now I kinda wish I had.

  • It's amazing that a game as shoddy as FF: MQ had a soundtrack this damn good.

  • I love this song.

While not the first RPG I ever played, it's definitely up there as being one of the most memorable for me. I friggin' loved this game, and this was my favorite song. I'd go in the damn castle just to listen to this song lol.

  • Whoever thinks this music sucks has OBVIOUSLY got issues!

    YA NEED AN ASS-WHUPPIN'!

  • I think this music is SUPER COOL!!

  • I beat this game! I like this music! Doom Castle was my favorite level.

  • This tune is very underrated not very often you see this on someones list. I think it's epic and I have used it many times to listen to on Wow in the instances with boring music but this tune always keeps me going forward. And FF MQ is a great first time RPG to play on snes.

  • WRRRRTYYYYYYYYYYYY

  • Eh, I stand by it. It's been known for years now (hell, it was explicitly admitted to at one point by the team behind the game) that the only reason the game was so ridiculously easy was because Japanese game designers thought American game players were too impatient and slow to be able to play a real RPG.

Given the choice between assuming they were just a bunch of arrogant dicks, or believing that at least one of them put in awesome music as a throwaway apology, I'll stick with my belief.

  • FF Mystic Quest is the perfect starter RPG though.

It's not a bad game either. It's just a beginner RPG. If you can get past the ease of it all, it's quite a great game.

  • That's a good point. I always did think the Japanese kind of looked down their noses at us in this regard, and that always ticked me off. It would be nice to know that at least one of those developers thought excellent music would counterbalance the weak gameplay. Eiher way you go, the soundtrack is still unbelieveably good.

  • Your probably right, it still is one of my favorites though, simply because the soundtrack is kick ass, considering how little effort the seemed to put into the rest of the game. Speaking of the length of the game, that was alright to, I could blow through the whole thing on a decent afternoon/evening and hear all the great music.

  • This song caught me by surprise while I was going through the list on autoplay, yet I recognized it immediately. I haven't even played the game since I was seven, since it belonged to my sister and she lives three provinces away from me now. Ah, the nostalgia...

  • i LOVE this game i used to play it all teh time beat it love the music

  • I just realized something.

It's like the Japanese realized halfway through creating this game that its ridiculously easy difficulty level might offend the Americans who could actually play RPGs, so they included the best goddamn awesome soundtrack they could as an apology.

Japan, on behalf of America: Apology accepted. Keep 'em coming.

  • No offense, but that was honestly one of the dumbest things I have ever read on Youtube.

  • Comment removed

  • What are you responding to?

  • Person deleted comment. Lol

  • Yes, because if Super Mario RPG is "better" then this game is auto-crap.

    Your logic is buttkiss.

  • It's about as sound as yours, actually. Neither your nor my views can be "proven" one way or another in a way that would satisfy any real debate, so trying claim your argument is somehow more "logical" is laughable. You like Mystic Quest, cool. I think there are quite a few better games out there that targeted the same audience, but that's just my opinion.

Obviously I shouldn't have posted a dissenting opinion on a Mystic Quest video, as the majority here think as you do. Fair enough.

  • Your reasoning is that there is a game with better music. Well Super Mario RPG had great tracks, there's no doubt. But does that mean that this is awful? No it doesn't. Yes it's personal opinion, but a positive opinion about one soundtrack shouldn't mean the other soundtrack is bad. That logic would mean any game with a soundtrack not as "good" as Super Mario RPG is awful.

Now do you see why I called it Buttkiss?

  • Or they could just make soundtracks without ridiculously easy games.

  • But then what would we whine about on YouTube comments pages?

Won't somebody think of the trolls?

  • "...because it's Final Fantasy!"

    "big deal....so was Mystic Quest"

    -VG Cats

  • This song is so fucking awesome.....

  • I read that the game was designed for entry-level characters. Hence the ease. It wasn't the best game Square made by a long shot, but it wasn't without its charm. If you're into emulation, give it a download and play it for about 15 minutes.

Or not. Whatever you like, that's cool with me.

  • game is still good even if its not a true FF and its too easy still amazin

  • Ooooh this brings back memories.

I recall just swinging my sword to the beat of this song :P It made it sound better than you might think.

  • "Swinging your sword"? Whats that supposed to mean?^^

  • shhh its a sharp piece of metal with a handle

  • i think you need another song from this game man...I can hardly remember this track.

  • Nothing was wrong with FFXII combat system, you can play that damn boring ass random battles, and turnbased shit for so long. I rather enjoyed the combat system.

  • fuck that FF mystic quest is the bomb shit!!!! ITS FUCKING LEGENDARY!

  • what? haha? what the fuck are you talking about?...haha if you are umm commenting on the box art image above, that is from the Gameboy version...thus you must be a n00b. The SNES version was the bomb...but make your low IQ comment, it is amusing to those of us with brains. We laugh at you. Ha Ha Ha.

  • ohhh i get it now, sorry i dont play the new FFs because they are so gay and have blonde haired faggots as the lead. You are right bohemian joe I must have been really high or drunk then . Fuck the new FFs Mystic Quest it the shiznattt.

  • They need to remix this and put it in FF13.

  • that would be cool. music nowadays is much higher quality but much more forgettable.

  • I heard part of it once and I've been looking for it since. Finally after a lot of searching I looked up "Final Fantasy Mystic Quest" and this popped up! Ownage!

  • ArgH!!! I have been looking for that for like 10 years!! I couldn't get that track out of my mind back then !

  • This and the Final Fantasy Adventure games (1-3) were my first Final Fantasy games. lol, there's an oxymoron here.

  • FF:MQ was a very basic FF aimed at the newer players, to be honest this was my first RPG! I will never forget the soundtrack the story may have been basic but this paved the way to FFIV for me!

  • dude, THERE WAS NO GOOD RPG BEFORE MISTIC QUEST it didnt aim for the newer players it aimed for people whoi looked for a new sort of gaming

  • You do realize that Final Fantasy IV came out before FFMQ Right? Your not seriously saying FFIV was a bad RPG are you?

  • FFIV's story was so compelling it had me in tears when I first played it, I rented MQ when it came out and was so frustrated with the slow pace and generic quality that I gave up after and hour. The first FF was even heads and tails above it...that game holds up even today. I would consider crystal chronicles in the same boat as MQ, but it is a VAST improvement as it simplifies the game play while not dumbing it down.

  • ... did Chrono Trigger come out before Mystic Quest? If it did, then his comment doesn't exist. lol

  • FFMQ came out in 1992 CT was 1995

  • Battle, Boss, and Volcano themes are outstanding as well.

  • At least the music was good in the game.

  • The game was ok, but a bit too repetitive. I've finished it twice until now

  • Best final dungeon music ever!

It's on par with Kefka's tower theme!

  • i remember this game

the only Easy FF game made ever

I made to the last castle at lvl 28

this music though sounds like it would be good for a mecha/Heroic Anime LOL

  • This game is easy and very fun. I beat this in 1 day.

  • Mystic Quest is the over looked FF game. Sure, it's simple but it held me over after FF2(us).

Fun ass game, even for its (almost) over simplicity. Music is ridiculously good.

  • Yeah this game was good. The music actually increased the enjoyment of the game immensely. Yes the music was that awesome.

  • y does evr1 say this game is bad?

  • mainly because it didn't quite live up to what fans were expecting from a final fantasy following FF4 in the US.

It's a shame, really; Mystic Quest is a pretty good game with an amazing soundtrack.

  • what a totally badass song that game had a great soundtrack. the game was easy, but the music was something to definitely appreciate ^_^

  • Oh man i love that song :D <3

  • Awesome music. This game was beautiful in strategy and music.

Too bad it sucked because of the freaking amount of monsters in the game,

  • Doom Castle.

Check out AshaneX, its the only thing mystic quest I could find.

  • yes! his remake of the battle theme is pretty sweet.

  • One of my first Final Fantasies :)

lol I got stuck at that ice castle for so long that i reached level 60 there (I didn't know how to get to Reuben's town)...

  • Well, the highest level in the game is 32. Seriously. But I imagine you got all the way to 30+ there, huh?

  • Oh, the 60 must've been for Earthbound when i was stuck on Moonside...(Caterpillar training)

Yeah it was probably level 30 or more. I was so happy and dumbfounded when i finally found the right way XD

  • Nope, it's not 32. It's 41, as odd as that seems. After reaching 40, the next battle will seem to level you to 41.

  • I wish they'd make more games like this one. People say it was a "dumbed down" game for an American audience, but I don't mind a short easy RPG every now and then instead of the kind that takes about half a month to finish.

  • That's one of the main reasons I replayed this recently as well.

  • @stephenarnquist Amen to that! :D

  • @stephenarnquist Agreed. And I especially miss games with soundtracks like this.

  • Yeah, as many good people have said...the game itself was pretty "meh", but a lot of the music was gorgeous.

  • Is this Uematsu's?

If that's the case, I'm impressed. Looks like he still knew how to compose good songs back there.

  • Nope, Ryuji Sasai and Yasuhiro Kawakami.

  • I didn't like the game very much in terms of gameplay, atleast compared to the "real" Final Fantasys. But I think the music is great.

  • Final fantasy Mystic Quest's music is soo goddamn awesome. Most epic soundtrack ever

  • again, good choice.

  • Hm... Wow never knew an awesome guy like you excisted that posted bgms like this... was starting to wonder when someone was gonna do something like this, and FF mystic quest even! and saw it today... january 18 the same day you added it so kudos to you

  • Sweet dude! 5 stars!
