  • The spirit of these proms celebrates the best of what we owe to Britain, and our ancestors there. This link back to our mother country has been well and truly attacked in recent years in New Zealand, as a result of leftwing governments promoting (and any rightwing governments caving in to) the same sort of denigrating of our heritage that Britain, too, is at present undergoing. It is wonderful to hear again, the great songs composed by individuals who loved their country and all it stood for.

  • my friend Britain is fkd#

  • Aaaaah it fills me with so much excitement.

MAN i love last night of the proms.

  • wen are the proms?

  • Proms are all summer long. The Last Night performance at Albert Hall is 12 Sep 2009 I think.

  • now!!!

  • I was one of many tousands of people who was in Hyde Park under "Lst night of proms'08. That was the first time in my life I was lucky to watch the worlds best and funniest cosert live. "Last night of the proms" is the greatest, best and funniest consert year after year.

  • Stop it at 3:30 to 3:40

and u can see a flag from danny wallaces country of lovely!

wikepedia the show "how to start your own country"

  • HOORAY HENRYS

HAW HAW HAW dont you know

  • Pomp and Circumstance by Elgar

  • The symphony is "Land of hope and glory",

See the movie 28 days later or "This is England" and you understand what they meen.

  • What is the name of the piece?

  • The flag-waving puzzles me a bit... I expected to see Union Flags, flags from the various bits of the UK, and maybe some ex-colonial flags. But I also see people waving the flags of other countries, including Germany, Sweden, Norway... what's with that?

  • They just want a piece of the action.

  • It's a patriotic song, the song doesn't exactly name the country, and all countries have patriotism - why not let them wave?

  • The way I see it the UK is a free country, so let them wave whatever they want...besides there is no such event (and no such patriotic songs) in Germany and we just can´t wait for the next Worldcup to wave our flags! ;)

  • This song isn't about being British. It's about being nationalist. No country is named in the song.

  • whoever put this as 4 stars cant be british you muppets!

  • i quite agree

  • one of the few things that still makes me feel proud to be british

  • too true, man. too true.

  • Agreed, America puts us to shame in being patriotic.

  • If that's what more patriotic gets you, I think we're fine as we are.

  • Very, very nice music! I absolutely love that piece!

And BTW I am sad about not beeing British!

  • Land of Hope and Glory,

    Mother of the Free,

    How shall we extol thee,

    Who are born of thee?

    Wider still and wider

    Shall thy bounds be set,

    God who made thee mighty,

    Make thee mightier yet.

    God who made thee mighty,

    Make thee mightier yet.

  • A brilliant piece of work by one of the most brilliant composers of our time.

  • Great celebration with great music...

  • Slightly Jingoistic - but loving it! Proud to be British!

  • Outstanding!

    Ranger Mannie

  • Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance March No.1" is the best, and I can see someone waving the very first variation of the American national flag, which incorporated the pre-1801 British national flag. Cool!

  • Well we Americans do love our British heritage ; )
