I personally think syn is more original and actually draws out notes for effect I dont like JP for the speed and being egotistical. Syn despite the comments in the vid does know what hes talking about he went to college for jazz guitar and theory.I think hes waaay better than petrucci through originality and technical rythm through leads

On the other hand John has the perfect blend of technicality and feeling and is one of the coolest guys. Syn's tone isnt great either and most people would agree that John has one of the best tones out there. You have no idea what your saying.

Not saying that Gates is talentless, but he isn´t the best guitarist or even one of the best. He´s not so innovative, just does common things, with common scales and stuff. If you want to see an inovatine guitarist, check out Jeff Loomis, Tosin Abasi or Misha Mansoor. These dudes could beat the shit out of Gates. Really, not disrespecting him, but he hasn´t the honor to being compared to legends. If somebody looks good, it doesn´t make him a better player...

you can throw all of this out the window really. the only thing that matters is that you enjoy listening to the music they play. who cares who is better. we could do this till the world ends and no definitive best guitarist would be decided. personally id like to see John at G3 again and if Syn happens to be invited, all the better! Us real guitarists know that we are all just rip off artists that take something we hear and play it from our point of referance.

If i could do an extremely big open mouthed, shameful smiley then i would. I mean just listen to the first few opening sweeps. Musically syn if good i suppose but those sweeps compared to petruccis are like a fucking pea compared to the sun. Petrucci is technically better.

all who really voting here, its not fair cuz the video owner picked the worst video of syn (i think he was drunk or something) and the best video of JP, yes JP is a legend but i think syn is about the same level, if you want to see his true skills. listen to the solos of Afterlife, MIA, Dancing dead and many more and only then judge

@vladi1Z Those are pretty good solos. Synyster is a pretty good player. But then listen to Petrucci's solos in As I Am, Stream of Conciousness, and Fatal Tragedy and you'll hear a difference. As someone else said on here, Syn is good, Petrucci is god.
