in the beginning they were arranged in order of which actor was more known to the general public, and which character was the "main" character. that is why anthony is first, george is second and so on; when the show premiered Tony was the most known out of all five of them
I think you guys are reading way too much into the who was placed when int heopening credits. In case some of you haven't noticed, the only spot in the opening credits that meant something were the first and the last spot. Beyond that, I think they tried to place everyone right around where they were originally mixed with where the newbies were. They struck a good balance. Saying that put all the blacks in the end is just stupid. they both got the and credit at the end so they put them last.

It's amazing how when america do basic dramas like ER the main actor goes onto to win an oscar (George Clooney) The main actor in a british drama goes on to win some stupid reality tv show or be an extra in star wars lol The only actor to come out of Britain and be a huge success from a drama in england is Jame MacAvoy in Shameless, and now thats been sold over state side! Maybe I'm in the wrong country lol
They cut the intro short because with all tv shows these days, they have less time for the actual show. So they have to cut intros down or all together to give them more time.
I love the show opeing it's fast just like the show is I have ever season on DVD besides the last & 15th season got to wait till it comes out on DVD PS. does anybody know when the last season of ER is supposed 2 be relased on DVD
RIP 1994-2009 Greatest Show ever, I loved every season. Still, at least I have the entire DVD collection, to catch up on the early seasons I wasn't able to watch. As for this opening, it was great. I never understood why they cut the opening short from season 12 until now. Great show, TV isn't the same without ER.
I'm disappointed that the show's over; it was such a big part of my Thursday nights. :-( Although I'm happy they got to go out on their own terms and decide that they wanted to end it, instead of just keeping it going solely to exhaust all possible storylines and make money (*cough* CSI *cough*).
agree, i absolutely hate that shows these days don't even have a proper opening anymore. it's like, "hey if the opening is too long, viewers will start zapping", it's so pathetic. openings are what define tv shows real fans knows. the csi franchise is one of the few shows i can think of that still has a proper and cool opening.
but have to say ER's original opening is simply the BEST opening in the history of tv. such an utter shame in it's final 3-4 seasons they took it away, damn shame.
I love that they put in benton's fist punch. Once I was old enough to understand what was going on, I'd stay up past my bedtime to watch with mom or dad. Thursday night without ER was a little weird at first.
this song just gives me goosebumps! I remember at the end of the show when the end credits would come up on the screen, that my mom was about to come into my room and turn off the TV because I was allowed to stay up until 10 on thursdays!
i watched this since my childhood. its tv history. my father, being a doctor himself and having worked in an ER for years, always said that this series comes so close to reality as no other hospital show. ER still rules
they should have put eriq la salle at the beginning where they basically had all the people from the original cast instead of towards the back with all the newer cast members.
they should have put eriq la salle at the beginning where they basically had all the people from the original cast instead of towards the back with all the newer cast members.
@batemsj1 Why yes, there were a few gay characters on the show. However, I'm pretty sure the 'gayest' show in all of television history would have to be Queer as Folk or The L Word.
@thesmartguy15 Well that's a different case. La Salle was always last when he was a regular, mainly because he almost had his own show. He didn't wander down to the ER much, he did his own thing in surgery. Also it was a sign that the show was balanced, especially during season 6 and 7, the latter characters were weaker characters, by keeping La Salle last, it balanced the entire cast, like it wasn't Greene focused. But David Lyons had been on all of a year, and gets ahead of Kingston... wtf?
I adore this tv show - the best and most realistic medical show ever. My favorite actors were Goran Visnjic, Julianna Margulies, Noah Wyle, Alex Kingston, Eriq La Salle, George Clooney. Too bad Maria Bello left the show. I loved screen couple Noah Wyle-Maria Bello
We're working our way through Season One and are reliving/loving every minute of it.
The heart fell out of the show for us when Dr Mark Green left in Season 7. I see on Wikipedia that that's exactly when the ratings began to fall - they had been #1 or #2 ever since the show began. The show suffered its biggest drop in viewers in the 12th season -corresponding to the departure of the last original cast member, Dr Noah Wyle. James Newton Howard's theme is,imo, the best ever written for tv!
@TomDonehugh Well, that depends on the point of view: if you like 3 series that are exactly the same, only changing the city, you have the CSI franchise. Now if you wanna have 3 different, yet in the same level of quality each one on its way, you have the L&O franchise.
I can't believe I missed it! I stopped watching around 1998 or so but I've always admired the show. I am just now finding out it ended in April. :( I'm gonna do what I can get ahold of the last episode if not the last season!!!!! :)
it was definately an excelent choice to include the original opening theme for the final episode. it was exciting to see it after so long! i dont know whose idea was it to remove it from season 13 onwards
so sad, this show could have lasted up to another 20 years or more. they didnt even scratch the surface of medical cases that they could have done on this show. ER will live forever, i feel as if part of my life is now over... LONG LIVE COUNTY GENERAL ER
whenever this aired all i could think of at the beginning was life and death life and death....every time i watched it that's what the beginning always sounded like to me
the music fit into the show so well because it was attention grabbing
i love it how they still use old scenes, e.g greene going out to see carter, carter after nearly fainting, benton after his first solo kinda surgery, greene looking at x-rays :) god im gonna miss it wish they had it on in Australia... :( lol im only 15 :)
@brnreede Sure, but face the hard truth: After seeson ten the series went straight downwards in quality, and everything after season 11 wasn't any good anymore. Sure, season 15 had some highlights again (especially due to members of the old cast being involved again), and the ending of season 13 (?) when Sam was abducted by her Ex had something to it too. But generally the series had become a soap opera in a hospital towards its end. It had burned out.

Tried it but I'm not from USA so I couldn't see it, "the clip isn't available from your location" the text said. But I found another way of seeing it :) thanks anyway!
here in Brazil we've had just the first episode of the final season aired yet, but the thought that it's close to an end makes me feel truly sad already

i cannot believe that ER is over. i love that show and have NEVER missed an episode of it. i already miss it so much. my Thursday nights will never be the same.
silly, simply silly that they stopped using this wonderful theme to open ER episodes in the recent seasons. It was a trademark for the show, it was like X-files theme: a classic!
Only thing I wish they did in the last season was to have at least maybe one episode as a flashback similar to Dr. Greene's ep with Lucy Knight....she was popular in seasons 5 & 6
Very Nice. 8) i like this SONG's. :) What's the SONG's title?

Unfortunately, they did it for extra advertising time. That's another 30 second spot and roughly $440,000.00 more in NBC's pocket.

I got that, when I saw the intro.
I thought: "wow, they really have the intro for a very last time in the final episode"
It was awesome, to see it, again. Its been a few seasons, since we saw it.

silly, simply silly that they stopped using this wonderful theme to open ER episodes in the recent seasons. It was a trademark for the show, it was like X-files theme: a classic!

Only thing I wish they did in the last season was to have at least maybe one episode as a flashback similar to Dr. Greene's ep with Lucy Knight....she was popular in seasons 5 & 6
