It isn't bad advice, it's simple advice, because as soon as you hit the real world with parkour or freerunning, you will get hurt.
You don't necessarily have to learn on Concrete, sand is fine or grass, at least it has some pain, you need to get use to the pain to do parkour. Simple as that.
We def. know that bro. WE do progression on stuffs, not just throw ourselves and get hurt. Smart training parin naman diba dapat. Train low but not that slow if you know you can pull it off, when you are ready both mentally and physically. We have common sense, thank you. :)
Youtube vid imitation also gives us a lot of information no doubt about that, but some information also aren't given there (youtube), unlike when someone teaches you especially those people who know how to execute the moves and could break it down to you and could give 1st hand advices and etc.
What's wrong in doing both? As long as the person is enjoying on what he is doing, then that's fine.
Actually, YouTube has a lot of tutorials on how to do Vaults and other stuff, which are broken down into steps and pieces. I didn't say you had to learn from a Parkour video where everyone is doing some amazing back tuck of power vault, I said Learn from YouTube, which means tutorials.
The thing is in parkour, you don't feel like you can do it, you'll never think that, every turn I take and every vault I take, there's always that thought of "I'm going to get hurt" in my mind.
The fact of the matter is Parkour is about a state of mind as well as a state of Physical fitness, you can be any weight to do parkour, but you can't have any brain to do Parkour.
The things that run through your mind when you do Parkour are "Shit... Going to die" "Fuck... This is too high" "Maybe later.." "Maybe tommorow.." it doesn't matter where you are or train, you will always have that thought. Be it a pillow land or a concrete playground.

Okay lang.
This is from a British/Filipino Freerunner, the Vaults are basic but they do the job. Okay lang sila, pero kailangan sila mas flashy moves...
Ano ba sila? Parkour ba? O Freerunning ba?
Dapat mag concentrate sila sa isa, hindi ang dalawa.

PS; Don't go to a School to learn parkour or freerunning. Learn from YouTube, imitate. You have the capacity.

That's a bad advice. Also, why can't you learn both discipline? :)

As long as they see it as a art. Not as a sport.
