In some cases, I think of the Henson-directed "Labyrinth" being a good companion piece to "Your Highness"...as Leezar is loosely based on Jareth and there's one part which both heroes have to make the decision to save their brothers or just go home and do nothing...of course, there's a LOT of great '80s fantasy movies they reference in it. :)
I'm not going to lie, but Pan's labyrinth gave me nightmares 5 years ago when I watched it aged 10. The creature thingy eating those fairies or whatever scared the shit out of me. Even now, when i'm 15, I wouldn't have been scared normally but surprisingly I am!
LOTR movies are amazing! music, actors everything is great! Peter Jackson did a great job with these movies. i just hope that The Hobbit part 1&2 (2011-2012) will be good as well
IMO what really sets LoTR apart from other Fantasy Movies is how succesfully it immeresed you into tolkeins world. Each character has his own flaws that they must overcome or face certain doom. And unlike most fantasy movies every decision by every character feels extremely real in terms of the sacrifices they choose to make and where their alligences lay.
This is the correct list, And for those who say the Fellowship was boring, It wasn't, it might not have had as much action as the other two, but the characters and there story, and how they came to together, how to story came to be was more exiting than any battles.
@grkpektis Ah, no. The other 2 had 'lots of big fighting stuff' but the first one required an explanation to the plot of the Lord of the Rings. Just because there wasn't a fight every 5 minutes doesn't make it a bad movie at all. I really enjoyed getting into the story, and explain to me how the hell it was dumb?!
@musaholic755 yea but even when it did have a fight I was bored to tears. Also there was nothing really special about the story until the second one (frodo being corrupted for example)
Should have been the Lord of the Rings Trilogy as #1, but whatever. At least they realize that it's the greatest movie adaptation ever made, as well as the greatest book trilogy ever made.
@sergioelmejor1 yes sci-fi is a SUB GENRE of fantasy and if they were to put star wars into a top 5 category it would be SCI-FI not fantasy, as sci-fi is not generally accepted as fantasy. (Apart from those who are anal film buffs who pick apart the meaning of a word to twist it to fit whatever the hell kinda meaning they want to)
@ianlolsatyou *cough*Science fiction is a genre of fiction. It differs from fantasy in that, within the context of the story, its imaginary elements are largely possible within scientifically established or scientifically postulated laws of nature *cough*
You are correct. What I was complaining about was your attitude. I know this is the internet and whatnot but you make a fool out of yourself when you go around insulting people for shit that isn't worth it to begin with
If you want a movie that puts you to sleep a half hour into it and when you wake it still isn't over, then yes LOTR is perfect. This is the only book to movie film that I actually enjoyed reading the books more, really disappointed with how shitty and overrated these movies are. Pans Labyrinth is the best on this list.

@rwwas32 haha ya maybe one day, i WANT to see Lord of the Rings and all but first i need me some money to rent/buy it and the time to watch all 3 lol, good advice though :)
1/ When a "Top (insert number and noun here)", it is usually the done thing to discuss the merits of said thing and explain WHY you think it's great. Even if it's subjective.
2/ We've all seen the LOTR trilogy. There is no need for some fan-wank, amature "video-montage-to-my-favourite-music" video, especially for as long as your vid was. Before I hit "stop" out of boredom, I was wondering where the "Naruto/Twilight/FF7-footage-to-Marilyn-Manson" vid was.
where is the fuck is the Godfather, THE greatest trilogy of all time, followed closely by starwars, then the dollars trilogy, then the prequel star wars trilogy, THEN lotr trilogy
@MaadDawg1 Even if it didn't clearly say fantasy it's still IGN's top 5, not your top 5. Your mother must have been smoking crack on the reg when she was pregnant with you
I thought they would just say the entire trilogy. I also think the fellowship is the best of the three but it's so not cheating to say them all. But to agree with one of the other comments, that said Harry potter hasn't been quite as good since askaban.
Finally an IGN list I can agree with. Although, that's probably because it wasn't actually made by IGN.
Love Lord of the Rings. One of my favourite trilogies. The others are Toy Story, Back to the Future, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars Original Trilogy and Indiana Jones.
I really don't get why they couldn't have made Harry Potter 4-7 as good as 3. After 2 films, they got the format right for the films but they messed it up after that. Not saying the others are bad. Just not as good as 3
OH great , I never WATCHED lord OF the RINGS and I already KNOW the GRAMPA die IN the MINES and THE bearded GUY dies IN the FOREST ... something ELSE you WANNA tell ME ?
You're insane. Two towers is the darkest and most suspenseful of the three. You don't know where Gandalf is, everyone is about to die, shits all fucked up. The other two are book-ends, existing only to provide context for Two Towers.
