  • cool videos :)

  • your blog isnt there any more

  • Wow love your journal pages and I love the music too (ver appropriate). What is the band/track called please? Please can I ask what type of white pen you are using there to outline? It works really well.

  • Very cool! : )

  • Wow, that so beautiful! I still can't imagine how I'd replicate any page like that but I'm sure I'll have fun trying. Thanx.

  • Samantha - thanks for showing me layers. I am gathering courage to move from word journaling to art, and your videos help a lot. {:-Deb

  • @Jakehatred666 What the hell is your problem? why come on here and be a prick? Her work is beautiful! Dont hate on ppl for no reason... grow up!

  • god... such a good journal and such a good song!

  • Great video! It was a little hard to hear your talking over the song in the beginning :(

  • Hi :) I enjoyed your video, thanks for sharing! I'm want to explore art journaling, What is Gesso used for and what white pen did you use to define your bird and brackets?

    Thanks :)

  • @LoveCelebGossip I think she might have been using a white out pen--, when they're do they apply easy.

  • This is one of my fav videos of yours, Kira! It inspires me to play with layers more!

  • Love it...and love the music.

  • This is so wonderful.....what is Gezzo? loved the music too.

  • Oh wow! Absolutely beautiful page!

  • This is BEAUTIFUL, you did a great job! keep journaling!!!

  • what kind of water colours you did use?the name?and what kind of 'gesso'??thanks ..

  • Thank you! Very Beautiful and inspiring!

  • LOVE THIS! Thanks for posting it! I want to start one of these really badly. I love how you painted with a credit card or whatever that was, nice idea. Only recommendation I have on the video is let the text that you display about what you are doing stay up longer, I kept having to pause to read it which isn't a huge deal but it might make things easier!

  • I ahve to do an art journal for school like is requiered, and the it even has a titel, and like I don;t have any ideas... I hate that I do art 'cuz I ahve to, I feel like I should do it because I wnat to, I ahve some ideas but not for the one I'm requiered to do.. the title is "my life as..." but I can't think of anything 'cuz I've enver thought of my life being like something.

  • Oops sorry I saw who the music is by, thank you for posting it.

  • I love your video. Do you do this daily? I'm very interested in journalling, especially when I get ideas for other art that I do. Having those ideas in their raw form is so important. Your art is beautiful and mysterious. What music is this? It's perfect with this. Thanks for posting your wonderful video!

  • Amazing :)!..

But how long does it take to make this art journals, and is it exspensive :P?!.. Cuz i dont want to use alot of moneys on it O_O" But i really want to make art journals :)!

  • You can make your art journal as cheap or as expensive as you'd like. Use old books, or a more expensive Moleskine, or make your own using card board boxes and envelopes nasty bills came in.. And then you add some colour using either expensive or cheap paint, or you collage magazine clippings etc. etc. There are tons of Art Journal videos on YouTube to get you started. Have fun!

  • What type of journal do you use to start??? Moleskine or an old book???... Because I've heard of using both, and I'm not sure which is better...

  • Try out both and see what you like best!

  • kira, this is one of the first art journaling videos i saw on youtube when i first started a few mos ago, it's still great to watch. thank you. also great great music =)

  • I agree...this is the video that got me into art journaling!!!

    Thanks so much! :)

  • amazing! and very, very beautiful.

  • Oh I love this, it looks like so much fun! I've always been a bit intimidated by working with layers because it looks like so much work, but you've made it look so fun and simple! Thanks! :-)

    ~ maea

p.s. what is the song you used with this video? I love it!

  • VERY Cool! I"ve been reading about art journaling and layers and I've wondered "how do they make it look like that?" Now i have a clearer understanding! Love it! Thank you!

    thanx

  • Beautiful work and I love your music choice. Really suits the mood of creating something in a subtle and calm process. Can't wait to watch more of your videos.

  • you are insane at coming up with cool ideas! i would love it if you made more videos!

  • Newbie to Journaling, I loved your video!!

    Colors and Layering is great!

  • hey really enjoyed your video, im just getting started. portia . Perth Western australia

  • I use a white out pen too. Yay!

Those colors were beautiful. I always tend to go blue for everything I do.. I need to venture out and do more color. Maybe I'll choose oranges.

    Rambling. Good video! Keep creating.

  • i cannot hear you talking with the music

  • awesome as always.

  • whats gesso? - i do gcse art and i don't know what gesso is??

fantastic book!!! - lots of inspirational things happening - great great great!!!!

  • Lovely! As well as informative.

  • Beautiful!!!!

  • I wonder if there's an advantage to putting down the paint, then the gesso, then the images. I took a class with Traci Bunkers and first she glues down images, then gessoes, then paints. Thoughts, anyone?

  • The gesso is actually supposed to go on the BOTTOM. It seals the paper or canvas like primer to get the surface ready to accept paint and other media. It also strengthens the paper. It is NOT the same as white paint, which is what the girl in this video seems to be using it for.

  • Actually, it's extremely common for gesso to be used in art journals. It's become known in recent years for its uses beyond priming. It's more translucent than white paint, & also has the primer quality of adding texture, which makes it ideal for layering in art journals.

  • who says you cant use it however you want?

  • love it!

  • I like your nail polish.

  • This is just amazing!

    Very inspirational! :D

  • Great video! I really enjoyed it. What type of pen did you use for the white outlines? Thanks. Love, Wyanne

  • whats the song?

  • *inspired*

    Thanks.

  • Amazing! O_O You've inspired me to make an art journal of my own!

  • You're very amazing. I love to watch the journaling process!

  • I love journaling, but I don't quite understand the concept of layering and painting, and then covering it all up? I pick my images, and don't want to cover them.I think its alot of trouble to go too, to cover up.

  • meow98, sometimes, giving ourselves permission to go crazy with layering is a way around the Inner Critic. Meaning, for me, if I don't like how a page is going, then I can just cover it up and start over, without my own inner drama of "Oh no, it's ruined!" There's also the coolness of having secret messages to ourselves, hiding behind the layers, which can add meaning to an entry. But really, it's just a matter of preference...whatever works for you works for you. :D

  • This was so much fun to watch! Love your work!

  • Thats really beautiful... i've never made a art journal. do you have an idea how it will look like when you finish or you keep changing it in the process?

  • wow thats just amazing.

  • cool! its a lot of layers, but it was worth it in the final product! i love how at the biggining the speech is in the background with the music in the foreground; it really flows

  • Thats really cool!!!

  • I think the music is an esquisite part of this video! It helps the process of the journaling flow. It's truly an inspiring piece!!!

  • Wonderful video...until the woman starts so sing then I can't hear anything anymore. Frustrating.

  • You are absolutely amazing.

    I just want to know...

Where did you get the book from?

  • Wow...

  • Interesting, but I can barely hear anything other than the music. I agree with SweetAngelGirl, in that it's not something I personally like, but I appreciate the time and effort put into making it available to others. And.. ClicheCupCake, ease up. She has a right to her opinion, too. Down, sparky.

  • This video has been selected by our channel as one of the best Time Lapse and iMade-this videos in YouTube. Thanks for sharing it.

    Regards,

    bestofYTchannel

  • i think it rocks! with the stencils and "wallpaper" it almost looks like something shepard fairey would do

  • It's lovely! Thank you for sharing such a personal thing with us! :o)

  • I don't have to like what other artists do, however, I understand that she was just expressing herself, and I am entitled to my own opinion. Because I made a negative comment it doesn't make me any less of an artist all im saying is that I don't like everything I see

  • What I mean is art is all art about layers. When you paint a painting you start off with a blank canvas then use solid colour, then add detail to that solid color, then add more detail, everything I put my mind to in regards to art has layers.

  • Oh my comment was in response to SweetAngelGirl's comment, if that clears things up a bit.

  • I want everyone to come to my channel and leave lots of hate comments on my videos. Please.

  • Art is about heart, it's about you and your projection of the world. It's another form of comunication, I don't have to tell you not to let anyone tell you otherwise. Love it!

  • What kind of artist are you that you don't respect other artists and their art?!

And art isn't "all about layers," it's about portraying emotions and feelings visually.

Also, just because it doesn't appeal to you, doesn't mean you have to say it looks like crap.

    Some "artist" YOU are.

  • Okay so I don't suspect that she scripted what she would say. So she's just saying whatevers coming into her mind first, and since this vid is about layering, she'd say art is all about layering. WHO KNOWS, maybe she meant that an essential part of art journaling is layering.

  • Oh my gosh! you used fortunes just like I did in my last painting!! As soon as I am done downloading video I will post it with my last one here!! Cool! Great colors by the way beautiful. Five stars.

  • great video...inspiring and really informative...

  • it's beautyful!

  • Oh yes! 100 layers to say nothing!

  • Excellent video!

  • neat.

  • Inspiring ! Thanks for posting

  • thanks sammy

  • Thank you for taking the time to share your process and teach us in such an artful, calming and colorful way! I look forward to more! Kira, you are SO inspiring to me and to many!! ~Lia

  • love the song ,beautiful, who is it? i need to know

  • The song is "The Beauty of Uncertainty" by KT Tunstall off her new album.

  • this is beautiful...it really inspires me to make something like it. I wish i was better at painting and drawing!

  • Well, I subscribed. So, obviously, I) liked the clip. ;-) One little bit of feedback, though: As a non native speaker, I had problems following what you said because it's so fast and hard to hear under the song. I liked that there were subtitles telling what you were using - for a dummie, that is very useful. :)

  • what song is this???

  • very cool...more!

  • cool clip! nice job :)

  • and would be*

  • That looks like 90% of girls A-level art books in england. I never understood this because so many of them assume that decorating the page will improve their grade, even though its actually the work you're presenting in the book that gets the grades, not how well decorated the book is.

Nevertheless, it looks nice and would is cool for personal/non educational/non professional journals.

  • Yes it does improve your grade to make your book look interesting.

  • Unless the book itself is meant to be a piece of artwork, it shouldn't affect the grade and I know from experience that it doesn't. I received almost full marks on all 6 units with books that were presented in an entirely professional black and white way. I would almost be embarrassed to take a heavily over decorated book to a university when applying for an art degree.

  • Well my course is differant to yours then because we do get extra marks for it. Well thats your choice then, you dont have to decorate your book but I see nothing wrong with others doing it if they personally want to.

  • true true. I didn't mean to try and stir up an argument.

  • im sorry i didnt mean to get defensive, i was probly in a bad mood at the time when i said it. sorry :)

  • Part of "decorating" your book or project is the idea that it will help you stnad out when being judged or considered.

Not to make to much of it. I have been on many a committee or worked with judges for many projects that they get something that looks like everyone elses with the same information. By being creaive it gives insight, depth if you will to the person who is judging the work about the person submitting the work. (I hate the word judging but I can't think of another right now)

  • I am a 4h leader trying to help kids understand several different concepts of presenting themselves along with when they may or may not be appropriate to help seperate themselves from every one else competing for positions, scholarships and appointments in their various fields of interest. It's hard to step outside of the box. But someone has to do it! :)

  • You should come to UK. pretty much every 15 year old studying Art GCSE has a book which looks like this, not really standing out from the crowd. My teachers back in school actually discouraged us from doing it because it was so common that it cheapened the value of the work we were presenting. When you're that age it is very hard to get your work noticed, especially judged against 100's of others, and presenting it in a serious and formal manner seemed to work the best for me. each to their own

  • Awesomely beautiful! I like that music too.

  • Love, love, love the journal spread! Hope you continue to do more videos! We need more mixed media artists sharing their creative process on YouTube!!! :D

  • Beautiful page <3

  • suzi! i love you! i saw your videos and i think that they are fabulous. they are better than this one (a tad too long) and i love you. could you maybe look at stenciling sometime? i'd love to see some creative ways to use them in my journal. i am about to start one. what kind of materials would you recommend i should buy?
