First off, was that Eric Hovind that talks a couple of mins in??
Secondly, I think the intent of the deeds depicts the meaning of the celebration...
By that I mean if you are dressing up as something tasteful, ie; Spiderman or a clown, going door to door looking for candy and having fun I believe you are celebrating something totaly different than the "Halloween" she was talking about...
I wonder, does she celebrate Christmas? A date chosen because of pagan celebrations of the time... Intent???
So many conflicting stories about the origins of Halloween. I still don't see anything wrong with your child dressing up as a clown, racecar driver, or dinosaur and go to the neighbors house to pick up snicker bars. Doing what I just described is not "partaking" in the events Ms. Kornacki is describing. Dressing up as a racecar driver is not the same as drugging, kidnapping and killing a teen girl. Bobbing for apples is divination, but eating donuts off strings is not? It's a game, that's all.
A good thing that Halloween is not popular here in Sweden, then, but there's still some pagan-cleaning to do. Santa Claus (Satan Claws), the Easter bunny and the worst in the pagan-holidays: midsummer-celebrations. You dance around a giant fallos, burn bonfires, drink like crazy. To quote Wikipedia : "Because Midsummer was thought to be one of the times of the year when magic was strongest, it was considered a good night to perform rituals to look into the future."
We have stopped celebrating Halloween a while ago.
