This is brilliant. I'm from Ireland west and Londons history fasasates me! But can u tell me, why at the begining, there are old to new fotos, but in the new fotos, the beautiful old buildings towers have being removed. Why is this?
Why do people come on here and say how wonderful it was and can we have it as it was. Well no thank you it was a bombsite drab wreck of a place. Much brighter and tidier now. And as for people who say it will always be our Eastend and it's been taken over - well it wouldn't have been if the people saying this hadn't abandoned it and went off to some other place. You lot have only got your selfs to blame if you think it's been ruined - personally I don't!
Definately shots of Bow in this, was born in 1947 in Lichfield rd, the last set of shots are Tredegar Square, used to play on the public swings and roundabouts in there as a child, East End no longer belongs to cockneys I'm afraid.
I was bought up in the area, always thought I came from Bow but I have been moved to 'ackney! Happy memories but nostalgia is all thats left, wouldn't go back there if you paid me, wrong colour!
I'm researching my family history. My parents and grandparents are from this area. Was that the Regent's Canal because some ancestors of mine used to live in Dove Row near it. Nice video.
i was alive in this time still aroundd know it was good then but we did have the spivs around and the crooks but it did not seem as violent and we were frightened of the coppers and also our mum and dads would give us a good hiding if we didnt respect the law or older people there was not so much danger then on the streets for the young ones we could play out till it got dark with no danger
GREAT VIDEO!!! I was born and bred in Bow right by the market. It was a great place to grow up but I moved away 9 years ago and would never go back - it's gone soooo down hill.
I wish London and England was still like this, i'm not being raciest but most of the trouble now is caused by black people and immagrents. The country was better and more powerfull before they arrived
I was in London a year ago and I'll never get over it and don't want to. Thank you for sharing these pictures of an area I didn't see but you given us online. I enjoyed it very much.
the changes going are making the area look nice but killing everything that the East end was.
The thing that made the east end special was its native people and they are gone, as are the markets, pubs and decades of a community where everyone knew everyone.

@TheShittingbull mass immigration did not begin in 1997 you can't just blame new labour. most West indians / south asians came here in the 60s-70s.

Great area once,I grew up there as did my parents and their parents.
I was in bow and Bethnal Green yesterday and they are completely different now.
Brick Lane? there was only a handfull of stalls on a SUNDAY morning and some B******s have demolished the old rag factory.
most people who live there now arent Eastenders and will never understand what has been lost forever.

This is really great - but as iannewell says - it's not Hackney, its Bow in Tower Hamlets.
