  • Maestro Airto Moreria! He's a bit "loco en el coco" but I guess that's what gives him skills to creating all he does.

  • Saw this man yesterday at Jazz Middelheim. He played with Toots Thielemans, Kenny Werner, and Oscar Castro-Neves. He also performed a solo, simular to this video. It was breathtaking. After the solo I understood why Toots called him Maestro.

  • Love the bass drum sound, slow attack, warm and roomy.

  • voi guat

  • this here is music people!

  • Only a complete inept fool would say anything bad about Airto. Wankers!

  • The people dissing Airto by watching this video are a manifestation of something that's wrong with society now. We now only seek instant gratification without looking deeper into the meaning of music, or art. What Airto is doing here is taking us through a tour of his roots: the Brazilian idiosyncrasy. And he does it by himself, with a handful of instruments, covering more than five different rhythms in different metrics (not only 4/4). Its in effect a freaking 5-minute trip to the Amazon

  • wat in the name of god is that shit how cud anyone lik dat weird stupid racket any fool out der cud do the same by banging things together and makin loud stupid noises

  • @crksmcgu obviously you have no clue who this legend is, google him and become enlightened before being disrespectful. Please feel free to '' bang things together'' and emulate him, then post the result, I'd love to see that.

  • How can you like Airto if you are not familiar with Brazil and samba, its amazing soundscapes of the Amazon and the voodoo chants of the Brazilians with African origin? How can you understand his view and his spirit if you haven't seen him playing with Miles and Dizzy amongst others? How can you appreciate his music if you are not aware of all the new instruments and sounds he introduced for every percussionist around the world? He has been there and done it.

  • /sarcasm

  • jeez this guy is a hack...

  • what the fuck?!! people dissing Airto?!!! God I hate people.

  • You have to imagine - "what is it like to do that?" "How does it feel ?" That's when you realize that this (like any of Airto's work) is cosmic !!

  • this guy rules man, so good.

  • I feel like his voice around 3:50 would make a damn cool sample for something

  • Immer wieder ein besonderes Erlebnis airto live nebst seiner charmanten gattin flora - zu erleben.

  • He is defntly one of the greatest percussionists in the world and this video is also and also is funny at the same time. His joy and love to these sounds, making me laugh. Love it.

  • mierda...solo mierda....no musica

  • @peruvianaki hahahaha severo imbecil, estudie musica y hablamos

  • es un genio ..

  • Airto "Sticky Fingers" Moreira

  • Brilliant! Couldn't keep my eyes off him. A lot like listening to a master storyteller.

  • VOMOS RESPEITAR!!!

  • grande airto

  • this is sweet and also very funny haha.

  • genial!

  • this guy is rhythm

  • what a master of the universe

  • Fantastic- it's like he's narrating. The tune in his head and the groove he's playing with/part of. You can hear the instruments that he's imagining play too.

Too much drumming is 1-e-&-a-.. hitting technically, missing the groove and feel. Need more of this in my opinion :D

  • REally nice I like it really much ^^ keep it up =D

  • how come there are so many IGNORANT PEOPLE HERE.

    TANGINA NINYO LAHAT...

    AIRTO IS GREAT PERIOD!

  • When I grow up, I want to be just like Airto.

  • una guiri

  • How wonderful is this!!! Wouldn't it be great if someone found a long lost video of both Airto and Hermeto Pascoal from the Sambrasa Trio/Quarteto Nova days. Put it on my wish list!!

  • Airto Moreira is great

    thanks

  • Airto might not be everyone's cup of tea... but .. to the people dissing him - try this: Google 'Airto + percussion" and see how many hits you get. Then Google 'your own name + douchebag" and see the no. of hits. The hit count should be about the same.

  • Comment removed

  • It's not my cup of tea, especially the scat, but he's still a very talented man and I'll always respect the nerve it takes to put yourself out there for ridicule.

  • lol when he does that headhunters-song @ 01:30ish :P he's playing with music =)

  • ya... still hate it. thanks for your worthless opinion though.

  • It's funny how you would confuse scatting/voice artistry in symbiosis with all of the instruments he plays. It's pure genius! But of course a "retard" would get this confused with random noise. It's people like you who once again ridicule what you don't understand.

  • this whole piece is centered around the vocals. If you want to hear him without listen to most anything else he does. I consider this a rare treat by an amazing performer. Too bad for you that you can't share the same appreciation.

  • this rocks!

  • Such an influence in my playing. He and the great Nana Vasconcelos were my 2 main reasons for becoming more of a percussionist than a hand drummer in the strict sense. I never realized how much Flora and he had an influence on me until I began performing. Naturally all this vocalizations would come out.

  • This guys rhythm is amazing!.

  • Pure love for music! Belissimo

  • stunning!

  • Magico,mistico y encantador.

  • 1:26 is my fav

  • cosmico

Johnny herno obreiro do movimento astral

  • hope i spell it correctly but it should be "fica mal con deus"

  • mestre

  • this shit was NICE

  • WOw, to say that Airto have no rhythm? He is not musical? This guy is a genius! Amazing figure, great guy to talk with about music and life. Obrigado Airto. You are the man.

Check also about Hermeto Pascoal...Great musician. The wizzard

  • what is the name of this theme ?

  • I love this. It was on the LP sampler that I got from a local music store a couple years ago.

ba ba bb ba ba b ba

  • He Da Man!

  • Whoever doesnt love/like Airto is a communist. Therefore, shouldnt be trusted

  • i wonder what these people would think if airto were north american...

  • why you came here. advertise in the yellow pages. you are a parasite....you must be a fat ugly money minded person sitting you fat ass and happy with you mac donald french fries.

  • What an amazing piece. For those that can hear this as the masterpiece it is, don't worry about it. It took me about 25 years to understand it. The an is a true genius.

  • Made me smile. Must be good :)

  • I really like what he does with his face between 0 & 5 secs - very impressive. & there's gotta be enough pepper on that pizza now, even for him?

  • mateenj42, To quote John McEnroe: You cannot be serious!

  • He's rhythm!

  • I agree with u Bro'

  • mateenj42 playing 4 syncopations, introducing a rythmic vocal is'nt creative? If Miles rated Airto enough to have him in his band, as did other legends, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Reggie Workman, JJ Johnson, Cannonball Adderley, Lee Morgan, Paul Desmond and Joe Zawinul to name a few, forgive me if I take your (opnion) with a LARGE pinch of salt, unless you upload something better played by your self, I'd strongly suggest posting such slurs only make you look foolish.

  • ...right on. but dont take his opinion at all, mateenj42 obviously know nothing.

  • "no rhythm" What??!

  • You apparently have very little knowledge of drumming, and indeed music as a whole. The vocals might sound a little ridiculous at times, but listen to how they're intermeshing with everything else.

  • mateenj42 WTF are you doing back here dissing a Legend again? I thought I sent you packing months ago, now looking at your page you seem a nice sensible young chap. I take it you've researched Airto and are familiar with his huge body of work with many Jazz Greats? I'm assuming that you would'nt be so ignorant to slur Airto unless you had, after reading your disrespectful diatribe it's clear that you have'nt a clue who you are dissing. That my friend makes you look very very stupid.

  • have you heard the first two return to forever albums?!

you dont deserve to play jazz if you dont like airto.

    seriously

  • ahhahaha i dont agree with the suck part... but i do love how every one gets so worked up over it its freakin hilarious

  • Amongst his peers Airto is almost universally considered a genius (and those who don't think he's a genius say he is a virtuoso).

It is ok, to be ignorant of something wonderful like this, and it can sound kind of funny first time (just like Uni or Caviar might taste funny at first), but that is only because your taste for it has not been developed.

The fact that every other percussionist in the world says it is great, should give you the confidence to spend the time to develop the taste.

  • This is the master. A great spirit and healer through sound.

  • He´s one in the world among ten.

  • This guy must have done lots of drugs back in the Miles days.

  • For some reason, Airto is annoying to some people... I think he's really fun to listen to and watch.. he's a percussive genious. and funny as hell! LOL

  • this makes me want to dance in the moonlight. This guy is percuassion fire and dragons in the midnight sky....Airto must be seen live to appreciate and this is the best next thing to it...don't miss him when he is in your town.

  • Thanks for excelling! I'm attempting to create my own thing, and appreciate ground breaking work that opened the door for off-the-grid percussionists like me! Airto jams!

  • Amazing. Airto is my hero... Would love to play with this genious one day.

    My heart melts!!!

    More vidz please!!!!!

  • That's crazy

  • dj fary 2 auamuhAU :D

  • A perfect party guy:D

  • He is maybe one of the best percussionists I ever heard, and is also a good drummer... and you got to hear "Light as a Feather" (Return to Forever) if you havn't done it yet. Fantastic.

  • I met him last month and fortunate enough to have a chat with him ! He is one divine percussionist.

  • Talent like this is in your blood... You can't learn it... You have to be born into. Airto is a gift from GOD to human kind. Obrigado!

  • I just caught him and Flora Purim last night here in the Philippines for the Jazz Fest! Damn, it was f*ckin unbelievable! We got to jam with him on stage too... It's a real honor to be playing with the legends of Brazilian music. Legal! Greko, his guitar player was damn awesome! Actually, all of them were... Hope to see them back here SOON!

  • pura vida

  • it sounds funny since i have no idea what hes sayin :D

  • The bloke's a genius, a mad genius that is!

  • So much swing...Airto is tu much !

  • He's a genius!!!! You go Airto!

  • the one and the only Airto Moreira--a one-man escola de samba bateria--he channels spirits.

  • I agree, a genius of percussion, a shaman indeed!

  • he is the weirdest guy.

  • I love the Brasil beat. Great vocalization.

  • Airto you da man
