I think he was probably hearing voices. It is possible that he has schizophrenia . I have seen and heard of people doing strange things when they hear voices. Many people that have this disorder say they hear voices of the devil telling them that if they don't do what is told something worse will happen. I think we need to look at this situation from a psychiatric perspective.
