@voorhees1380 Yeah! Six Flags only added a whole new kids area, took over a wildlife area, updated the old waterpark, introduced the first halloween attractions there, added 5 roller coasters, and rerailed Raging Wolf Bobs! That's all, nothing special at all. While CF is the real hero, they repainted a ride, and renamed rides! How amazing! Wow thats amazing.
@Cinestrio SF spent so much money than the park could absorb in such a short amount of time that it was part of the reason that the company filed for bankruptcy a few years later. CF came into the park and immediately had to deal with waning public opinion and a sky-high, unjustified operating cost. While I think there were other solutions to the problem besides closing the park, the SF era ultimately wrote GL's death sentence.
@jumpbacktome Yes but at least SF had attempted bringing the park up, CF didn't do too much. Yeah, Six Flags didn't do it the way they should've, however at least it was an attempt.
@Cinestrio That isn't entirely fair, considering that if SF hadn't invested so much money without return, the park wouldn't have been sold in the first place. CF didn't really have a chance and had a dying park on their hands from the get-go. I think GL would have survived, thrived even, if it had remained the size it was in 1999.
@voorhees1380 No, CF did destroy the park. Six flags could not maintain it so they made the best option which was to sell it... Cedar fair let it crumble...
This park was a part of everyone's childhood. My first day ever at this park in 1993 was 1 week after they got the Texas Twister and I can remember the 2 hour wait for it. Everyone in that park would not stop talking about the ride, if they were scared to go on it or how different it was.
This reminds me when I was scared six flags would find no buyer for darein lake, but luckily they did. Ceder Fair should have let anther owner come in and take over the theme park cus people won't go to the water park because they're made at them for taking out the rides.
i used to get season passes every year when i lived in Akron. this place had all the fun of places like cedar point but the crowds werent as bad..too bad i never got a chance to go back before it closed..i moved in 03' right before six flags sold it
There will always be a scar on the Earth where the rides and roller coasters once stood. The screams and laughter heard all around town are now silenced by a group of business men who destroyed the economy of Aurora, Ohio. This City will always be missing the fun, the screams, the laughter, the happiness, the roller coasters and rides and the Skysraper in the skyline of this city.
i live so close to that i can walk its gona be wierd this year not to hear the roller coasters all day and night. I still miss hearing the animals when sea world was here. gl has a lot of great memories, my first job was there, its gonna be really different without the gl skyline anymore
Its not going to be easy not having Geauga lake in our area. i only live 30 minutes away. A good thing is im going to kings dominion in april and i get to rde the denominator. but it will still be known to me as batman night flight
While I hadn't visited the park in nearly thirty years (since I left the Cleveland area in 1979) and I know that things change, this is such a shocking and sad thing to hear and see. Many summers were spent at this park - on our town's "Brecksville Day" - and left me with some excellent memories. Perfect use of a music bed. Nice work.
