The all american couple, what went wrong? both displayed infidelity but only one crossed the line Wagner must feel horrendous he let her die a lonely terrifying death, whether he murdered her or just grossly neglected her that cold November night, 'if only' must play over in his mind a thousand times a day! RIP Natalie you were worth a thousand Stefanie Powers and even more Jill St John's!
Thanks for sharing a rare glimpse of them in a co-interview. I don't think re-opening the case will reveal anything new to speak of - I think she just was ticked off after the argument, was a bit too intoxicated, and made a poor choice to go out on deck, (why else would she have donned a jacket over her nightgown) and just slipped and anyone else aboard was too drunk to notice - I'm a huge fan of her's and I think it was just a terrible accident...
@JohnnyGNV I'm just curious...what do you make of Wagner waiting 4 hours to call the coast guard when he knew Natalie was petrified of water? Or not allowing Davern to turn on the searchlight?
@stephsayss That part of it I admit is strange - I don't know what to say about that. I think he truly loved her, but of course, none of us were there that night. Perhaps he was too intoxicated himself to make a rational search decision - why did it take thirty years for Davern to say what (he thinks) may have happened?
@JohnnyGNV What I don't understand is why she was on a boat. It is well known that she was terrified of water. When filmed Splendour in the Grass, she had to do a scene in water, and I believe she was so, so terrified that they nearly did not complete the scent. Who knows what went on on that boat with Christopher Walken and her husband. Anne
@vodka4everandalways She once said "I enjoy being ON the water (meaning, in a boat) but I don't like to be IN the water" so it is terribly, sadly ironic that she drowned. I don't think of Natalie as a "drinker" but that doesn't mean she never consumed alcoholic beverages and on that night, I think alcohol did play an unfortunate role and did impair her judgement as well as contributing to poor choices made by RJ and others aboard the yacht.
And by 1981, when Wood was shooting what was to be her last movie, Brainstorm, she had taken to goading Wagner by, as she put it, “swishing my tail” at her co‑star, Christopher Walken.
He probably killed her. Its so sad. She was born Natalie Zacharenko. I think she was of Russian heritage. The weird thing is that she didn't like water and couldn't swim, and Waken was her ex boyfriend. Who goes on a boat ride with their husband and ex boyfriend? I wouldn't.
@lollipopfop Walken was not Natalie's ex-boyfriend. They had made a movie together called Brainstorm and Natalie invited him to spend the weekend on the boat as her and RJ often did for costars. They also were not having an affair.
Cubomannia you are an idiot, were you there? I love all these comments from people that don't or didn't even know either of them. Bunch of Enquirer reading morons who believe every scandal they read.
Guess what ? The first time they married she had an affair with Warren Beatty and Wagner was humiliated. On board the boat she was flirting with Walken, or Wagner thought so. They were all drinking I think. So imagine , there was the motive that he was not going to let Natalie humiliate him again. He had no right to murder her. But he did. Wagner killed Natalie. Walken was dead asleep during the fight that went on, or claimed to be. There was a violent fight. And Natalie was gone-
@cubomania3 Natalie did not have an affair with Beatty until she and Wagner were separated. The REAL reason the split the first time is that she found HIM in a sexual situation with a man. Read Suzanne Finstad's Natasha.
@tanwoody ----you know that is likely correct. I remember reading that too, but didn't remember until I read your reply. In old movie magazines I have, there are headlines about how Wagner was dumped by Natalie over Beatty. All the same though, because if she dumped him for any reason, and he is an egotistic sociopath....then the second time would definitely NOT be the charm. It still adds up to reasons why Wagner would flip out, Natalie leaving him one way or another.

R.J deceived a lot of people with this charm but now it's all going to come out, how he covered his ass that tragic night. He got drunk and accidentaly killed the supposed "love of his life" and got away with it. Justice will prevail. This story has not ended yet. Poor Natalie!!! She was the one they made look bad, but he was the drunk, not her. He got out of control that night.
I think Natalie was much better than Robert, she could have done better.

@JohnnyGNV Agreed. I find it so sad and bizarre that there are so many loons determined to think that RJ is a deranged killer who hated his wife.
These two loved each other. Natalie's death was a tragic acident. The End.

She would probably still be here if she hadn't got back with that mental case. What a waste. RIP pretty lady.

I can understand RJ's reaction to Walken. He rubs me the wrong way. Poor Natalie made a fatal mistake bringing that jerk onto RJ's boat. So sad...RIP

He refers to their love as his first love. I guess he forgot about Barbara Stanwyck or the story he told in his book was BS to hide his bi-sexuality.
