True the original prototype built in 64 was all British, but to make it a winner it went to Shelby American in Calif. There it was reengineered and made a winner. The early MKl's had the small block 289 later MKll & lV's ran the 427. Holman - Moody was involved for 1 year with minimal success. The Shelby campaigned cars won 65 -66 Sebring,65-66-67 Daytona, 66-67 Lemans. The car above is a small block MKl.

Because air filters restrict airflow and therefore power. Running a race car without them for extended periods of time is fine, it's just that you need to change the oil more often because it gets dirtier quicker due to all the dust in the air going straight into the engine.

But the engine works fine without them.

The original was a 260 small block. This one looks like a small block since nearly all of the 427s used four-barrel carbs instead of the Webers. Some of the independent cars used 427s and webers. Sounds like a small block.
