@sjff2003EMT You clearly missed my whole point here.. and where I said UNLESS anybody is believed to be inside. I don't need to rethink my tactics, you need to rethink where I fight fire and where you fight fire. Everybody's demographic is different, I fight fire in a rural/suburban area, not in a large city where homeless are roaming. Not trying to be an ass by any means, we're all firefighters but we all have different tactics for our response area.
@bullzisnipr3 Well said, i understand you. Guys, use your brains not your ball..... Vacant structure fires are a totally different ball game, high risk/low reward vs low risk/high reward. Remember the Worchester 6........ how soon we forget.
Lots of firefighters but it seemed to me they had no real plan they ripped open the door without a charged line then it seemed they had no idea what to do sorry guys
Anybody know what the plan is?.... ok first lets open the garage door, then go in for a few seconds, Naw lets go around the back. Ladder the alpha side, no the charlie delta corner instead, oh yeah Junior, go ahead and break out some windows while we figure out where we'll make entry... Sorry guys but fancy equipment and lots of FFs on scene dose not a good ICS structure make. Looks like most every one was freelancing
If Firefighter safety was priority one the how were several firefighters allowed to be in the Red Zone WITHOUT BEING ON AIR!!!!???? Breathing in that CRAP is NOT SAFE!!!!!!!!
@mac1lhup We could care less about a vacant structure. It most likely isn't up to code, it's vacant for a reason meaning there's nothing important inside. We only protect exposures on vacant structures unless there's the possibility of homeless being inside then depending on fire conditions we may try to search.
@bullzisnipr3 So cause its a vacant building you guys just let it burn and walk around and watch? Honestly the dumbest thing i have heard to date.. Don't get me wrong their not worth firefighter safety, but that don't mean you cant spray water in through the big ass door opening your crew just made.... That guy on nozzle would have probably had knock down in no time if not pulled out to go protect a house next door that was clearly not in any danger...( he shouldn't have entered)
@pcfd20 No, that's not what I said at all. We aren't concerned about vacant structures, plain and simple. I do agree they could've gotten some water inside for sure but we aren't going offensive on a vacant, not gonna happen.
The IC apparently made a decision, for what reason? We have no idea, but it was made for a reason.
loved the way the one guy worded it " oh lets see,,, im gonna take the big boy" lol.
its like that here where im from. we have a total of 27 guys who work at my station and havfe like 6 engines and were all vol. and sometimes when we roll on calls our first engine on scene will sometimes be one guy til some guys get on scene. great vid
Sorry, I gotta agree with those who are critical of this fd's effort to confront this fire. Given the smoke conditions, it took far too long to actually start knocking it down. I don't care who the company is, or if the garage is vacant or not, this looks like poor firefighting tactics. Anyone who is remotely subjected to the toxic smoke should be wearing SCBA. Period.
i like how everyone becomes an expert while watching fire videos on youtube. i bet more than half of these jerks biggest fire have been either a dumpster or car
@mac1lhup Shut it down... stop bashing. Why hurry and get hurt for some shit shack that's vacant? You should examine your own idea of tactics.... STAY LOW! FTM-PTB
i can agree with you on all except one point. If you're talking about the officer running the camera, I'd imagine he's one of their Public Information Officers, who's JOB it is to get the worker on film/gather information. You can see the chief's buggy pull up following the truck company in the beginning of the film
I think I understand it now...after watching some of these vids I have seen large fires knocked down very quickly with a well placed stream of water or, as in this case, not so quickly with no stream of water. So that means if the fire is hit by water the fire goes out and the fun is over. See, I got it. Come on guys, vacant or not there is someone's property in there and If it were mine I would appreciate the well placed stream.
At the end of the video, you see a FF pickup a ladder and proceed to walk down the D side of the building, WITHOUT using an SCBA. Why would you purposely inhale toxic smoke??? In Toronto Canada, TOO MANY firefighters are dying before retirement due to smoke inhalation received over the years. Also, too many firefighters are dying within 4 - 5 years of retirement due to job related cancers caused by smoke inhalation. A lot of these guys started prior to SCBA's coming on the trucks. WEAR YOURS!
I can see why they have a lot of big fires. Flame or no flame, that is a big garage with no idea what is actually inside that, with that level of smoke pushing out, it is obvious there is high heat and flame inside that garage, Put some darn water on it, hell instead of a handline, pull off a deck gun and load it up and fire away boys!
how do you people not know anything about PGFD they are like the most famous fd in the world.. I think they know a little bit about firefighting there has already been 5 working fires today. so they know what they are doing. dont talk shit on pgfd..
ok first off this is PGFD. They run more fires in a week then most company's run in a month. Second yes that is a detached garage. but its about 25yrd long and fire is not showing so they arent gonna just let the bitch burn. Third. yes they laddered it. everycompany should ladder every building. even if its on the first floor. LADDER EVERY WINDOW AND ROOF. thats just wat you do. dont bag on shit if you dont know wat your talking about.
its upsetting looking at the comment from career firefighters, they think because we are paid on call, we dont deserve to be called firefighters, News Flash... we do!! we do the same job, and go through the same training! 73% of fire dept in the country are paid on call and deserve the same respect that career fire fighters get!! as for the fire, they did what the officer in charge felt was right at the time, as long as all went home that is the most inportant thing.
haha you'll think douches when your house is on fire and the only available company is a Volunteer company. It makes no difference whether you are a career firefighter, volunteer firefighter, woman firefighter, man firefighter, black or white we all do the same job, and we all put our lives on the line the same. So either be thankful for guys who put their lives on the line... or grow up.
I agree!! I may only be 15 years old... but I have been around FD's all my life... and I have seen my fair share of fires. This is an ABANDONED lot... so why risk my life trying to save something that isn't even occupied? Now... on the other hand tcat2884 if you want to go in there and die for something thats not occupied.. be my guest... until then... shut the fuck up... or quit your bitching.
I agree, laddering a detached garage and not taking the other garage door out is stupid and a waste of time. It does seem that water isnt a concern but it is a DETACHED garage, whats the problem?
I agree. Had this been a dwelling, and they did the same thing.. then theres room for concern. But its a Vacant garage... anytime you get a call and hear the words vacant *or at least in my mind* my safety first, its empty.. no reason to die over an empty building. Great job guys!!
@PGFD800 I fully agree that Firefighter satety is priority one but why is it that @ 2:50 you clearly see a firefighter within the "hot zone" with out PPE? and also several firefighters with out SCBA Looks as if we all agree about safety but just dont practice it...
@PGFD800- If FF safety was "priority one" at a garage fire, then why did a 3 man crew make entry? and why was the guy carrying the ladder walking so close to a potential bomb while not in full PPE? Just saying.
@PGFD800- If FF safety was "priority one" at a garage fire, then why did a 3 man crew make entry? and why was the guy carrying the ladder walking so close to a potential bomb while not in full PPE?
