  • Thanks for this. I've found that the power supply goes on almost any external HD (had it happen with Verbatim and Iomega), and I've had to rehouse them. Couldn't see how to get into this one, but your video works nicely. In future, I'll be buying disk and housing separately or using a dock. Your star status is assured.

  • @timjmason thanks, i'm glad i could help :)

  • what do you think of the P'9221?

  • THANK YOU! I lost the power cord to my LACIE, making it completely useless. When I tried to take the harddrive back and saw there was no screws, I knew I was in trouble. Who knew it all I'd need is a butter knife to open it? ;)

  • @draw2much Haha you're welcome :)

  • The power supply goes on these drives, that's what makes the clicking sound in most cases so before replacing it try this to make sure it's not the shitty power supply. Fuck Lacie!

  • Anyone know where to find a cheap power supply for this stupid hard drive??? I have this thing and don't want it anymore, but I can't find the power supply anywhere!!! HELP? :( Or if you've torn yours apart and don't need the power supply anymore, can I have yours?!?! LOL

  • Jamboni, you star! Just what I was looking for.

My Lacie just got the click o'death, and I'm too tight to replace a perfectly serviceable external USB enclosure :D

  • @richardbirks thanks, i like being a star :)

  • Thanks, jamboni just what I needed.

  • @wazant you're welcome :)

  • this lacie sucks so hard, i have had so many problems with this drive. glad you are posting this.

  • @aleighlewis you're welcome :)

  • I have a hard drive like in the video but when I opened it, it wasn't an ATA hard drive but a SATA...

  • thank god you were there to tell us how to do it!

    what an informative video!

  • @nondescriptman soz for the delayed reply, i didn't get a notification about this comment. You're welcome, glad i could help :)

  • Thanks! My drive is making this weird clicking sound and isn't being recognized by my computer anymore. A friend suggested to open it and I soon replied with "This thing is built like Fort Knox. There seems to be no way to open it!"

This helped! Now I can tell the guy who will try to recover my memory how to open it to take a peak inside.

  • @deschanellove Check if the power adapter is hissing. If that's the case, then that thing is broken and your drive is fine, no need to take it apart. Just buy a new adapter and flame LaCie for making a no-quality power adapter.

  • @deschanellove Glad i could be of help:)

  • @jamboni Next time you post a video - please turn down the musicscore - could hardly hear what you where talking about with the 3 plastic things.. thanks for posting anyway.

  • @crazycutz wasn't really going for the best production value, just making the vid less boring. Will bear that advice in mind.

  • Thank you for your help :)

  • Thanks man! :)

  • well done!!!By opening the drive you broken your 2 or 3 year warranty!!

  • @Soul1871

i've had it maybe 7 years lol!

  • @jamboni still working after 7 years mate

  • you're all welcome :)

  • i have an 500gb lacie porsche hard drive and i want upgrade to 1tb, it's possible? thanks

  • @thiagograzioli I am not sure. I would assume it depends on that model's adaptability. Best to google it :)

  • thaks a lot, i was looking how to open this lacie hard disk.

  • Nice video! I was just looking for it! Thanks.

  • Thanks a lot , it works .. know I will need to figure out what is the sound that it has because its not working :(
