my god the only 2 videos of jimmy page playing STH with these guys have horrible performances by him, jeff beck playing like hes taking a shit, and clapton just owning everything and everyone in sight with so little time of soloing
I love the pure joy on Jimmy's face you can see how much he loves this song and loves preforming it wow amazing and to have Eric and Jeff with him what a epic night.
"this is a song of hope" as Robert said. I love Jimmy Page and the way he didn't let himself fall! Now he's 68 and rockin' like a GOD! Well, I love this man :)
Eric Clapton and Toby Keith showed no emotion. Jimmy played his heart out, Eric and Keith just played little licks that would sound good with the progression. No passion at all.
It's such a shame that someone is so supposedly great, is totally wasted and playing so poorly that people will just love anything that they do, even if they sound crap!!!
@steve7onfire Ya page had a drug problem for 10 years, an most of us would not had made it 6 month. but the greatness even high is better than most. tell me someone today that has had the in pack on music as page did in the 70ds an threw today. look at the video on page jack white ant the edge . look at the eyes of jack when pages starts to play . i lived near jack white in detroit an you can tell he was in aww of a god mr page
@sexypirandello for me, gods are those guys who dedicate their lives to create good music, Page, Beck, Clapton, Hendrix, Gilmour, Frusciante, and so on... They're all gods for me
Sure, you can't say this is Page at his best... but the sound quality really doesn't do him any favours. He hits some amazing notes there. Clapton and Beck's little solos frankly don't do anything for me whatsoever.
God he looks drug-fucked. He's lost that cool dope look and got the diseased phase happening. It's amazing that people haver chemistry with other people. Without Plant he loses a lot of his glamor.
I have always been amazed at how Jimmy plays, but also how he dances, almost waltz's with his hack when playing. He is in his own zone for sure. What talented group of players for sure, but Jimmy is so special and always will be.
i am a fan of jmmy, and think he is one the greatest, but this is probably one of this poorer performances of this song. i see alot of people on here praising his playing in this video when its clear to anyone that he was really sloppy in this one. does that detract from his greatness? no, but dont act like this is a solo sent from the gods lol.
i fucking hate hippies like keith that always have to bring meaning and fairness to these videos, yes, other guitarists are good aswel, but shut the fuck up and listen to the song
Jimmy Page might not have been as technically skilled as Beck or Clapton, but you know what? Neither Beck nor Clapton could ever write something like Achilles Last Stand. Only Jimmy Page.
@ledzeppelin1023 : Yes, I agree. But he escaped from these drugs and his exibition in Beijing in 2008 - which will be reedited in 2012 in London - is the greatest moment of a guitarist who got aged but anyway stood the best (with Gilmour).
If I`m not mistaken this was right around the time Jimmy was kicking Heroin after being on it for seven years so it`s kind of expected he didn`t give his best. In the last days of Zeppelin it`s hard for me to listen to him live, he plays like he has a broken hand. Some musicians say heroin made them a better musician, others it obviously didn`t help and it seems Jimmy was one of those.
Really they are looking at him because he is going faster then he should be and they are like what the fuck. Clapton knew it when he came on that Jimmy was not giving his best performance you can see it in his face lol
That wasn't that good of a solo by Jimmy Page. If you thought that was a cool solo then you're probably just in denial. I'm sure Jimmy Page is a good guitarist and all. But don't lie and say that was a good solo.
In my opinion, Eric Clapton played a better 15 second or whatever long solo than Jimmy player however long of a solo he did. That's just my opinion.
I've seen this before. What a major talent Page was, but drugs really messed up his performance. This is one case in point. Just very hard to watch. I used to worship this guy. Sad, really.
@Echoofsilence100 , Geez, if he names himself after a place in Viet nam, you'd think he'd at least spell it correctly - "Cam Ranh Bay". Oh, and you can put me on that list : "Ranronb68, Fuck you then sir:
This is amazing! I was born in 95 and I'm 16 now, and all I listen to is classic rock. Been playing guitar since I was 5 also, and man I've gotta say Jimmy Page is ranked number 2 in my all time favourite guitarists, beaten very slightly by Randy Rhoads (RIP). Jimmy put so much FEELING into this solo! Head down, pick in hand and rocked out!!! What better way to learn that from the greats :)

@guitarkeith71 I would. I'm also a guitarist, a big fan of British rock and more over a Jimmy Page fan. I have listened to Zeppelin, Queen, The Beatles for my whole life just to mention a few bands but strictly speaking as a fan I have always found Eric Clapton very dull and uninteresting.
