Losing the superbowl does not render everything else meaningless; what a contrived philosophy you've uncritically inherited. The Patriots made it a good superbowl; they made it exciting; and you should know that is what matters.

Because the 2007 Patriots had a chance to stamp a huge footprint in NFL history if they won Super Bowl XLII: Going 19-0 unseating the 1972 Miami Dolphins as the best single season team in NFL history.
Also, the 2000s Pats had a chance to join the 1970s Steelers and the 1980s 49ers as they only teams in NFL history to go 4-0 in Super Bowls in one decade.
And Tom Brady had a chance to join Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana as QBs that went 4-0 in Super Bowls in one decade.

That's what sports fans will remember the 2007 Patriots.
A team that went 16-0 during the regular season and setting all those records galore and stuff and had one chance to stamp themselves in NFL history as the greatest single season team ever, but those records are meaningless because they failed to seal the deal.

And it doesn't matter if the loss came in the regular season.
The 1984 49ers and the 1985 Bears are considered to be one of the greatest teams in NFL history because they went 18-1 and they won their Super Bowls.
And the 2007 Pats, they went 18-1, but lost in the Super Bowl and went home empty.

The 2007 Pats won every game EXCEPT the last one which was in the Super Bowl and they went home empty handed.
No one remembers what the 2007 Pats did in the regular season. They will all remember as the team that had a chance to make NFL history to go 19-0 and failed.
They went 18-1 and have no Super Bowl win to go along with their 18-1 record. They failed to seal the deal. Case closed. I win. You lose.

Um, I read the rulebook and watched the replay tons of times. Eli Manning's knee WASN'T down, Richard Seymour wasn't in a chokehold (legal block) and David Tyree's catch was a completed catch.
