Blew me away at the time - Roger standing arm aloft, gaze fixed firmly ahead with that keyboard riff...just awesome. Entwhistle's bass tone is incredible..one of the finest performances of a very memorable day.
I love the who, and pre-keith's death, they were awesome, But I have to say I don't feel the energy in this performance. Maybe it's because I already saw Queen's, but I don't know, there's something off about this performance.

I remember seeing this. I think they followed Stevie Wonder or someone like that. A pretty decent act anyway. I was a big Who fan and just turned up the volume and it blew me across the room. The energy was phenomenal. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that.

John Lennon wasn't a great guitar player, he was a great songwriter, Keith Moon wasn't - he just played drums.
Kenny Jones is a great drummer as 99% of people who actually play will tell you, Keith Moon thrashed around doing simple rolls at inapproriate times, his style impresses children and people who don't play.

All rock n roll is derived from a mixture of jazz and blues, both were Black genres of music, learn a little about your own musical heritage for Christ's sake.
The British bands of the 60s/70s (Led Zep, Fleetwood Mac, Cream, Yardbirds, Stones etc) all started out playing blues, not rock n roll.
The major influences of them were Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, Robert Johnson etc, not Elvis.

I also noticed how the cameramen didnt' seem to want to show John any. Dunno if he asked not to be filmed, or if they kinda ignored him like they did Rick Wright during the Pink Floyd set at Live 8.

I love the who, and pre-keith's death, they were awesome, But I have to say I don't feel the energy in this performance. Maybe it's because I already saw Queen's, but I don't know, there's something off about this performance.

I remember seeing this. I think they followed Stevie Wonder or someone like that. A pretty decent act anyway. I was a big Who fan and just turned up the volume and it blew me across the room. The energy was phenomenal. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that.

I was at this concert, and believe me it sounded a whole lot worse in the stadium than on this video.... the sound was really bad

He couldn't use a bass pedal, and just thrashed around doing as many rolls as possible and randomly hitting cymbals all the time. He sounded like a blindfolded monkey building a shed.
The first job of a drummer is to keep time, Moon didn't do that - ask any drummer who was better!

John Lennon wasn't a great guitar player, he was a great songwriter, Keith Moon wasn't - he just played drums.
Kenny Jones is a great drummer as 99% of people who actually play will tell you, Keith Moon thrashed around doing simple rolls at inapproriate times, his style impresses children and people who don't play.

You're entitled to your opinion, but good drumming consists of more than thrashing around a kit as much as possible, listen to Simon Kirke from Free and Bad Company, he sounds great but doesn't do that, he plays simply and with feel - sometimes less is more.

The Brits took over as the dominant country in rock music in the mid-1960s, and have been there ever since.
We had The Beatles - you had The Monkees, we had Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Genesis, and Jethro Tull - you had Kiss, REO Speedwagon and Poison!
You may have invented r'n'r but apart from ZZ Top and Aerosmith, there hasn't been much good from the USA since has there?

Elvis - the king of r'n'r? - You may as well say Eminem is the king of rap!
He did the same thing as Elvis - took a black genre of music, and watered it down to make it acceptable to a mass (predominantly white) audience.
He sang other people's songs, and never wrote anything, if you had a 'king of r'n'r' it was Chuck Berry, who influenced every rock guitar player since the 50s.
It's not singers who make music develop and progress - it's musicians and writers.

Elvis was a huge star, and he influenced performance and vocal styles, but he didn't influence music at all. Listen to anything he did after 1957 and you'd realised that.

All rock n roll is derived from a mixture of jazz and blues, both were Black genres of music, learn a little about your own musical heritage for Christ's sake.
The British bands of the 60s/70s (Led Zep, Fleetwood Mac, Cream, Yardbirds, Stones etc) all started out playing blues, not rock n roll.
The major influences of them were Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, Robert Johnson etc, not Elvis.

If you can find a copy of Classic Rock magazine from Sept 09 you'll see that in an article where famous guitarists name and comment on their own top players, Angus Young chooses and writes a paragraph on Chuck Berry.

I know what they listened to because I lived through that era (the era that produced most of the truly great rock bands of our time).
I'm bored with trying to give you a lesson in the history of rock music now, you carry on thinking Kiss are musical geniuses, Bo Diddley's white, and Elvis was an innovator.
Listen to Jagger, Plant etc again and tell me who they sound more like - Elvis or old blue singers? Even Mick Jagger acknowledges that he used to try to sound like a bluesman.

Buddy Rich is was technically brilliant, your other comments about him probably do apply to him when he got old, but certainly not in his younger days.
As far as pulling ludicrous faces when playing is concerned, not many people looked more ridiculous than Keith Moon did they?
Ask any drummer if they would rather have Buddy Rich's or Keith Moon's talent, what do you think they'd say?

Yeah, considering the impromptu nature of the entire damn CONCERT, they did a pretty good job.
I love how Pete falls near the end, and then Roger does a headroll to make it look planned. Pure spontaneous win.
I also noticed how the cameramen didnt' seem to want to show John any. Dunno if he asked not to be filmed, or if they kinda ignored him like they did Rick Wright during the Pink Floyd set at Live 8.
Or maybe he just wasn't acting crazy enough.
