  • Why do you not respond to anybody's comments.

  • you should not work on hard drives with that magnetic tip screwdriver...

  • Also. Does it have to be brand specific?? Sata?Samsung spinpoint?Scorpio blue?? as long as it's 2.5 and 5400rpm, does brand matter?

  • I have the 80 gig hard drive, this will work with it?? Does it improve speed or just more stored memory? Great work my friend, keep it up

  • can i save all my trophys back on to the new hard drive i would apreshate it if you reply

  • Cool

  • @Jerest504 yes. I have the cheapest one and so does my friend. He just did this, it's not worth it to pay more for less. 500 GB hard drives can be like $50 so that's a better deal.

  • I have questing. I am going to buy playstation 3 so I should I buy cheapest one and add 500gb harddrive to it when its empty?

  • Now that playstation store has the playstation plus you can save your data online then change the hard drive then reinstate your online information and reload all your data

  • instead of a memory stick could i use a external hard drive to save the update on and then install it? cause i just spent all the extra money i had on new internal hard drive and an external hard drive to do the back up. thanks

  • how would one transfer the data itself onto the larger capacity hardrive?

  • what is the website????

  • i get the message saying "the system software cannot be run properly". i created a folder on my usb flash drive titled PS3 then a new folder within that folder called UPDATE. I DLed the newest firmware update to that folder and put it inside UPDATE. The PS3 can't read the flash drive. What am I doing wrong?

  • where you get hard drive from

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU keep on gooooooooooood JOB

  • omg ur a god send! i had been searching everywhere for what to do when i got the message 'the system software cannot be run properly' when i upgraded my 80GB to 500GB, and i finally found the answer in ur video! thanks!!

  • nice vid! whats the song?

  • Tom Trago - Big Business.

  • My ps3 suddenly got a "cannot start. hard disk not connected thing". Its a 40 gb version and I was wondering. Is it alright if I replace the old hd card with a 500 gb one on my 40 gb PS3? Or we'll that be too much power?

  • That's $166.08 dollars. 500GB hard drives here cost around 90 - 100 dollars.

  • can u link us to a proper harddrive that works with the ps3?

  • Any SATA 2.5' Works With Ps3 I Have A Hitachi 500 Gb 7200 Rpm 16 Mb Cache & It Works Like Dream Come True. Home Loads Almost Instantly

  • @K60420 so 7200 rpm is ok to use because i read that it heats up your ps3 ? but if you having no problems with then hitachi it is for me 500g would be sweat

  • @kufudokungfu It'll Be 465 After You Install Why So Many Gb's Missing Idk.

  • man you got ripped off, you can get 500GB HDDS from anywhere between €50 to €80

  • Were Kan I Get This HDD At?

  • Cool! I got a free 320gb ps3 harddrive yesterday from a site called p2s (Checkout my unboxing vid), This really helps XD

  • how can you clear the dust?

  • is the hard drive where memory is stored? lol i think it is...but my ps3 overheated from being clogged with dust and i now have the red light of death : ( . can i swith the hard drive into a ps3 slim and still have all my memory?

  • Yes...

  • thanks..but how do i do it>?

  • how do i upgrade my memory? cuz i need new space for my games cuz my ps3 memory bank is full? how do i do that? and r u able to do that? cuz i have a 40g and i want to upgrade my memory

  • i want to backup all my data, if i back up data will it save bookmarks, and my ps3 profiles(the profiles under the profile collom on the XMB), and my game add ons?

  • the backup SHOULD copy every thing. how ever it would be the best idea to just back it up, instal the new one and restore every thing and keep the old one so you can go back if need be

  • will i loose my settings for the wireless internet? it was a pain in the ass trying to get all the correct settings onto my PS3, so i could be online.

  • so i need to buy two HDD

one Ext HDD for Back up

    another For Replacement?

  • If you plan on backing up your entire system then yes, you'll need an external hard drive as well. If you don't mind redownloading and installing your games, you'll only have to use a USB stick to copy your game saves.

  • can an external hard drive be any hard drive

  • It can be, as long as it's formatted to FAT32.

  • how can i know is formatted to FAT32

  • yes

  • 0ok so if i made this upgrade do i lose all saved data on my ps3?

  • quick question, are things like messages and gamer profiles located on the HHD or are they saved on the system it's self?? because I don't have an external drive and I wanna back everything up using my computer. I don't care about game data. all I care about is trophies, which aren't saved in the HDD anyway. so will my profiles, friends list and messages stay if I do it this way?? thanks.

  • Your profile is saved online as well, just like trophies. If you were to format your PS3 or install a new hard drive and you create your existing PSN profile, all your friends will show up again, but I believe your messages will be gone, though.

Does that help? Sometimes it confuses me a little when people talk about profiles and PSN IDs.

  • yeah, it helped. you said it plain n' clear. thank you. ..I just gotta find a way to keep my msgs.

  • you make first a back-up

  • does this work ? i havent tried yet but how do you check your normal ps3 memory please reply

  • XMB > Settings > System Settings > System Information

  • Finally a how to with the same HDD drive slot as mine! All on Youtube how the side fit PS3's with the pull tab. This was very helpful

  • When I was recording the first take of that scene, I was actually surprised and had to stop for a second. I had no clue they changed the slots (I was used to the old tab system as well).

But I figured it out :)

  • Isnt the best way to do this is to back up your memory from the first hdd to a USB ex memory, remove the hdd after back-up, put in new hdd and put the USB memory onto the new hdd?

Thus eliminating the hassle of downloading the most recent upgrade from the playstation website.

  • You can't back up your system onto a USB memory stick. You can only save game saves, music, videos and photos on a USB stick. You need to back up your system on an external hard drive if you want to prevent redownloading everything.

Downloading the latest PS3 firmware from your computer doesn't take long.

  • thanks. i added that video to my favorite and subscribe you too. ;D

  • one question isnt there a way to keep the saved game data on your ps3

  • Browse through the comments below. You'll find your answer there.

If you simply mean swapping hard drives while somehow keeping your game saves on the system, then no. Not possible.

  • Can you help me for a minute? I have a Playstation 3 60gb model and I really want to have more memory. But i've been thinking. If I upgrade more memory to the Playstation 3 60gb model, will it still be backwards compatible?

  • No. Backwards compatibility is a feature located in the system, not on the hard drive. Hard drives are really only for space.

  • But let's say I still want to play older PS2/PS1 games on my PS3 (60gb). What is your best advice?

  • All that will still work after replacing your hard drive.

The hard drive has nothing to do with the system's other features.

There are several different components in a PS3. The backwards compatibility is also just a chip somewhere in the system. Hard drives don't affect it.

  • how do you transfer data, like game addons to another hard drive or PS3

  • For things like game saves, videos, music and photos you'll only need a USB or flash memory stick.

To back up the whole system, you'll need an external hard drive (FAT32). It is very easy. Plug in the hard drive, turn it on, then via the XMB, select the back up utility and just follow the on screen steps.

  • oh ok thanks, so to transfer game addons i just need a flash drive right?

  • For add-ons I believe you're gonna have to use an external hard drive. I don't think add-ons are files you can just select and copy onto a memory stick.

Also, you can always redownload things like add-ons via the Account Management.

  • hi how big does the biggest drive can be

  • I believe so far 500GB is the largest 2.5" hard drive there is.

  • so your saying that if ive already donwloaded that addon on one account i can open that same account on another PS3 and download it again?

  • You can redownload anything you've purchased from the PSN up to 5 times. At least last time I checked it was 5 times.

And yes, you're able to do that on a different PS3. I have never done this myself - all this info I just gave you comes from the internet. I've redownloaded all my stuff twice in the past because of different hard drives I've had.

  • So i did everything the same as you described and when i press start and select it searches and cannot find the jump drive with the update. Have any suggestions?

  • Make sure you named the folders correctly (as in my description);

    PS3 > UPDATE

    All caps too.

  • were can i buy one of those hardrives???

  • You can buy those hard drives anywhere. Try your local computer shop or electronics store. I got mine off the web (cheaper). Just make sure you buy a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive.

About your hard drive space issues: I honestly don't know. Go to the system information in the XMB and check how much space you truly have left.

What exactly are you trying to do? Just play a game and you can't save anything or install?

  • yeah im trying to play a game but it says it needs like 649mb space to play it, and so im trying to free some HDD space but i dont know how??.....what website did you get yours from??.....or cant i just get one of those PS3/PS2 memory card adapter to save my ps3 games instead??

  • question...i was trying to play a game today but it was telling me that i needed a certain amount of MB space, and so i delete it some of my games that dont play anymore but it's still telling me i need more space. i have a 40 gb ps3. can you tell me how to free more space from my ps3??, i delete it every game i had except for one but it's still telling me i need more space. can you help??

  • Nice!!!!
