Wow what a gem this video is, didn't know TT sang those great '50s tunes. TT was amazingly versatile, don't know of any other singer with such a broad multi-language ability let alone singing the songs so well. She also has at least a couple of songs in Indonesian as I recollect.

I grew up listening to her songs, my parents loved her and I've grown up loving her too..she's so beautiful, talented and has such a beautiful voice...I've never heard her sing in english much..mostly chinese..although I do not speak chinese..well fluently as a main language ..I ended up knowing all the songs ..just loveddd them, such beautiful songs and memories <3

In my opinion, it's not her beauty, powerful voice or performance but merely the sweetness in her voice that won millions' heart all over the world.

Of course, she's not the most powerful or highest pitch singer compared to Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and others, but I "NEVER" get bored with her songs.

After 10, 20 or even 100 times, I still love to hear it and sing along.

I truly believe this evergreen feeling is what made her songs - Classic.

Teresa Teng was a great singer, but based on voice, range, and power, she cannot compare with the other great singer who emerged at the same time -- Ms. Fong Fei Fei, known affectionately in Taiwan as "Queen of Hats" because of her fondness for hats. Fong Fei Fei enjoyed greater record sales and popularity in Taiwan than Teresa Teng. Fong Fei Fei was also the "Best Female Pop Singer" in Taiwan between 1975 and 1980, a fact Teresa never achieved.

And according to the 1996 movie "Comrades: Almost a Love Story," in those days many people in Hong Kong were afraid they would be thought of as hicks if they listened to Mandarin music. Surely those factors had a whole lot to do with Teresa's record sales being lower.

Nothing against Fong Fei Fei -- I haven't heard her music before but I will check it out. (Thanks!) All I'm saying is, Teresa Teng was one of the all time greats!

With no disrepect to Fong but if Teresa had stayed in Taiwan, pop history there would have been quite different. Fong Feifei achieved the honors you mentioned in Taiwan when Teresa was carving out stardom in Japan, Hong Kong and other SE Asian countries - a feat no other Asian pop singers has ever achieved!

As for true measures for a pop singer: voice, stage manners, power, repertoires, etc., no other Asian singers has come close to Teresa to this day!

No, I don't think I have overstated Teresa's achievements. The quality of a singer doesn't lie with voice range or sound alone, being able to express the song's essence (or soul) is probably even more important.

I do realize that the Philippines has produced many good singers (the lead singer in the Broadway show, Miss Saigon, for example) but none can match Teresa Teng's extensive reach and popularity in Asia - not just in Taiwan.
