A "pro" of HCR: the hard-working, diligent taxpayer now has the forced "pleasure" of paying for John Q. Potsmoker's cigarette induced COPD and obesity-related blood pressure / diabetes. Now, 16 year old Susie B. Slutsenwhore can have prenatal care (including pregnancy "options") for her 3rd kid and WIC handed to her by people who themselves can't have children
@alkap6633 The middle class is who suffers now. They are the people who are not poor enough for "assistance" but not rich enough to afford private insurance because insurance companies make it so expensive.
here is one idea. If anyone commits insurance fraud, first offense, throw you in prison for like 10-20 years, then when released, you will be banned from anykind of insurance, including health care. If anyone who has been banned tries to get insurance, anykind including healthcare, that person would go back to jail for another 10-20 years. Put this on every news station, and every newspaper and tell the people "This hear is your warning." One strike and you are done.
Should we solve that by getting government involved, force people to buy insurance under penalty of prison, and call it 'giving them free insurance', or should we provide tax breaks to the charitable organizations providing free medical care to those who can't afford it so they can expand their reach? It's not about whether people should have access to healthcare but whether we want to create criminals or expand freedom.
Let's face it, the reason why health care is so expensive is because Americans are fat, lazy and out of shape. Healthy people who bust their butts 2 hours per day in the gym are subsidizing these lazy couch potatoes. You should pay a rate according to how fit you are . If you don't like high premiums then go work out and eat healthy. I'm tired of paying high costs because of fat lazy people who eat junk food.
If they want to fix health care why don't they pass a law that makes mandatory screening annually of anyone on health insurance. The further your body fat percentage, blood pressure, resting heart rate etc are from the ideal measurements the more you should pay. When it costs money to be out of shape people will get in shape and the cost of health care will come way down.
this guy says we should have government insurance for everyone, but then says something about "if you've been paying your premium"... well many people can't and will never be able to afford those premiums, so either the poor are screwed or basically the government will be totally funding insurance by tax dollars.
i think private insurance can probably work if the government tries to stay out of it, and government insurance can also. this in between stuff is messy and much too expensive.
Conservative: “I really hate having my hard-earned money taken from me to pay taxes that go to the poor and unemployed. I could have used that money to buy a brand new car!” Liberal: “Typical greedy-Conservative! No Compassion! Sorry, you’re going to have to forego this year’s brand new car to do something good for once, like help the needy.” Unemployed Assembly Worker: “I wish people would just start buying new cars so I could get of these welfare checks and get my old job back!"
A lady made a comment on Washington Journal on C-Span that made a lot of sense. She was not for the individual mandate. But if you didn't have health insurance and showed up at the docs office, you would have to pay the complete bill at the time of service or you would be denied care. Show up at the ER and can't afford it, the hospital can put a lien on your house or car until the bill is paid. Don't have a house or car? Then you don't get treatment. Why should my taxes pay for your health?
would'nt high premiums just mean more coverage if they have to use 80% of premiums for medical services? and if thats true, wouldn't insurance companies want to lower premiums? Either way you're still getting a lot of good coverage for you're money. Right?
How do you go back? How do you undo the things that americans like and want to keep?
Simples. You simply don't tell them. You do what the right always do. You manipulate, you hide and then you fear monger and then the Tea Party turn against it and then they campaign for the "doughnut hole" par examplé to be reinstated as it will 'create jobs' or 'reduce the deficite' or some other right wing bullshit.
Their doing this already with abortion access even though this is a CONSTITUTIONAL right.
If you don't want to be paying for things then don't ask for anything from the government when you have kids and get old.And go to another country damit!
I wonder if Dick Cheney would have gotten all of his heart surgeries if he was a private citizen? With his pre-existing condition he would have been DENIED! But nope my tax dollars pay for HIS health care and ALL the health care for ALL the politicians, but we the people suffer while they sit and laugh at us. Think about that the next time you get a bill from your insurance company. Greed is awful, and we are the victims. STOP THE REPUBLIACNS and TRUMP FROM REPEALING THE NEW HEALTH CARE BILL!
European nations w/ government healthcare have 10%+ unemployment and are bankrupt(ex: Spain, Ireland, Portugal). Are these the type of nations we want to emulate? Plus if the government can force you to buy healthcare, what's next?
Ask anyone in the UK. Where not bankrupt and we have a smaller deficit than the US. We also have free at the pointof service healthcare which must be doing some right as the latest satisfaction survey recently conducted on the public produced an all time high rate of happiness with the NHS of 72%
Frankly, you in the US are insane as you are paying RIDICULOUS amounts for shitty insurance that covers nothing most of the time while we have a better system for free.
@cisseshairdresser UK has "free" healthcare? You also have high unemployment(~20% unemployed youth), services are being cut, college tuition skyrocketing, riots every week, ...ect. I know plenty of British citizens living here that aren't exactly rushing back to the UK for their free healthcare. In fact, most who come here, stay here.
We have a deficit smaller than the US's and a fragile economy that is recovering around the same speed as it is in the US. WE ARE NOT BANKRUPT. We are the same as you! The US has HIGHER unemployment currently with it being forecast to increase. Around two thirds (not all Uni's have released figures yet) of universities that have released their figures have increased tution fee's. Plenty haven't.
The only people who prefer US healthcare over ours are RICH people. Riots every week?!!
@realm313 ha ha our unemployment levels is lower than America, and college tuition is still much cheaper than the US. People here don't have to pay $100,000 attend Cambridge or Oxford. There are plenty of problems with the UK though. e.g weather, overpopulation. Therefore I'm not surprised that your british associates are not running back but I don't think it is because of the NHS. But the truth is that most Brits don't head for America. If they do immigrate, OZ or NZ is the popular choice.
@realm313 but we don't have the best model in Europe for healthcare.. that honour goes to the Scandanavian countries, Belgium, Switzerland and France.
@realm313 1: we had 10% + unemployment as well. the entire world is in hard econ. times. 2: we are (near) bankrupt as well. just because they have faulted on their loans has nothing to do with how their healthcare is better or how we would if we had what they do. 3:yes we want to be like them, people live longer and they are ranked higher in healthcare. 4: no one forces them to buy anything, it comes from their taxes. ps. the gov already forces you to buy auto insurance.
@grnbbllntrck - If you are talking about Canada and their taxes that pay for their healthcare, remember that their wages are about double then in the US. Also, If a Canadian decides to get treatment in the United States, the Canadian government pays for it. Like I have said 100 times before, by the time my Grandson turns 18, I hope he has to look in a history book to find out what a private insurance company WAS!
@phillipmarch22 that's not exactly correct. our government will only cover what it would cost in canada. for example a stay in an american hospital costs $4000 for 2 nights but a stay in a canadian hospital for 2 nights costs $400. Therefore, the government will only cover $400 if you stay in america and you're in charge of the rest which is $3600. Again, it's only an example and the reason why we're cheaper is because our gov. negotiate for price...
my wife has congestive heart failure and thus can't get private health ins., and was turned down for Medicaid. The high risk pool is $600/month plus $400 month in out of pocket copays/deductibles. And we were both laid off, so we can't afford that. So she isn't getting the care she needs. What a shame that US spends almost a trillion per year on being the world's policeman but doesn't even have health ins. for people like my wife. Too bad we don't live in Canada, France, Sweden, etc..
@justin1138 Other countries are able to have successful socialized care because they aren't liable for such extraordinary pool risk in the form of a universally unhealthy population. If you want to whine about how expensive American HC is, then take it up with a 34% (and skyrocketing) obesity rate.
maybe if you greedy bastards down at the insurance companies would start looking into research done in the 1900's by Dr. Ruth Drown maybe we could all get free health care but i guess the world doesn't want anyone to know about her or what she did
decreased. The rate increase is due to the Obama health care reform." While I fully expected rates would increase slightly, I certainly didnt expect a direct finger-pointing at one political party or another.
Amazing, during the part of the video where he says that insurance companys will raise our premiums and directly blame the Health Care reform Act are dead on. My company recently raised our premiums and sent out the following message. " A letter was sent to all employees in December 2010 informing employees that there would not be a rate increase on our medical insurance. Unfortunately , theis is incorrect. The rate increase in not due to claims that were filed in the past year , they have-
There are good things about the bill and some really bad things. It sucks that they can't re-write the bill, they have to repeal the whole thing then re-write it which I doubt, then re-vote it back into play. The bill was originally written in 2002 by someone working for the white house, Obama probably hasn't read the whole thing and had to get lobbyists to pay off democrats to vote for it because the Bill was highly disliked by democrats originally then one day they all loved it.
@lionslicer9999 That's pretty much what happened. Remember he promised Americans cheaper prescriptions from Canada, but then made a deal with pharmaceutical companies in US just so they can say yes to his bill.
let's make a comparison. The US is THE ONLY developed country without universal health care or even FORM of it.
That being said, look at the US and France. France has "socialized medicine", they also have free education, and free child care and other stuff and only pay 10% of their income in tax total for all of that and some.
We pay approx 30,000 + for college, easily pay 60,000 + for medical bills, and 3,000 for childcare AND we pay taxes.
@afrasianxchicxoxo can you please shut the fuck up? I dont want to pay for poor ass freeloaders I work my ass off for a living. Yes healthcare needs to change but socialist crap never works. Its funded by tax dollars, where do tax dollars come from? People that work their asses off.
The best healthcare systems in the world come from countries where tax funds healthcare. "That socialist crap" has made Australia's healthcare system infinitely better than the American healthcare.
@srwilli4m Oh so you're not paying for those "freeloaders" by paying such high premiums when they go to hospitals? Wow, i guess you are confused about how our healthcare system works. It works perfectly well in Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and i don't see them bitching and whining about it. I guess they must be morons.
@Stingerbillion ALL socialized healthcare is crap. good luck waiting weeks to get checked up on unless you are in serious condition. Even then, they will try to tell you that you have something you dont just so they can avoid expensive treatment. People that dont pay into the system should not get help.
@srwilli4m I completely disagree. Just because Americans go to the hospitals for common cold or back pain, then yes, doctors will not treat you and will someone who has serious case. I don't understand what is the fear you guys are feeling. Maybe it's the obsession to go to the hospital or can't tell the difference between what is serious or not. My cousin lives in Canada, and she loves her healthcare, like many. She gets treated and doesn't have to worry about the cost or anything.
@Stingerbillion why the hell would I go to a hospital for a cold??? I'll go to a doctors office. why do I want to pay a larger than usual premium when I choose to stay healthy? I dont want to pay for people who smoke, eat mcdonalds all day, and are lazy freeloaders that dont pay into SHIT. Socialized healthcare just leaves longer lines and lower wages for doctors who deserve every penny. I work for my money that I CHOOSE how to spend, how about you?
@srwilli4m We already HAVE longer waiting lines. There aren't enough doctors in specialize medicine because the money isn't all that good. Again, you already are paying high insurance premiums for those same "freeloaders, who eat mcdonald all day" because they don't have insurance. By universal healthcare, waiting times in emergency rooms would decrease, as hospitals would not be treating the uninsured for common problems. I agree with you regarding doctors salaries would decrease to $150,000.
@Stingerbillion The money IS good the schooling is the expensive part. Thats why doctors DESERVE every penny they get (for the most part) if I ever wanted to become a doctor and someone told me I could only earn 150k a year because of socialist bullshit I would never become one. Waiting times would increase because every free loading bastard would be able to go in the hospital for all their fatass lazy needs. PRIVATE healthcare companies should be regulated but we dont need socialist bullshit
@srwilli4m That's completely untrue. Waiting times will decrease under such plan because those freeloaders/needy will be going to the doctor and not have to worry about going to the hospital for small issues that you and i can manage. Also, private healthcare companies need to be regulated. Why do you think they are screwing the avg customer by dropping them from plan and not covering them with surgeries people desperately need. There is small con to Universal, but there are also many benefits.
@srwilli4m Its actually pretty good. Every country in the world that has it you can bet your life on the majority wouldnt vote against it. Germany, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Austria, etc... even the conservative wouldnt vote against it there. It is the best thing ever, here you go to the doctor and you have to pay extra because they have to calculate people who are uninsured which can not be denied, and everyone can get insurance without being denied! Big step forward
@101Politricks Sorry if I eat correctly, exercise, and avoid health risks like smoking. No one should be forced to pay for people that have medical complications because of their life choices. PERIOD. With socialized medicine comes huge waiting lines, underpaid doctors, and doctors trying to tell you that your "fine" because its more expensive for them to treat you. Why do you think the best doctors are in America? Its because insurance is run by private corporations. Govts cant run shit
@srwilli4m Well thats good for you ;), but I dont know if you aware that there are some people with prexisting conditions? That cant get insurance because of it? Or people that have an accident, break their leg and need to sell their property because of it. The best doctors are in America, but not for you buddy, you wouldnt be able to pay for them, you get what you can pay for.Long Waiting lines is bs, I have lived in many countries with SM and that was never the case for me.
@srwilli4m p.s. Socialized Medicine doesnt mean everyone pays the same, people who smoke, drink, etc...still have to pay a higher premium than someone who is healthy. What you dont see is, people are dying in this country because they cant get insurance, they have to sell their property, they recieve low quality treatment because their not able to pay for the high quality treatment which has a negative effect on their daily lifes. Plus if you dont earn enough money you cant live healthy.
@101Politricks right im sure the government would be really good at telling who smokes and drinks or eats shitty food because they are so good at doing everything else (yeah right). For every legitimate person that deserves help I would say theres 3-4 more that are just paying for their poor life choices. Maybe they should have finished high school or gone to college instead of freeloading.
@srwilli4m I dont care about those who broke up with High school, but they make a small percentage. Many cant even go to college because they dont have the money. And yes maybe the gov. cant tell, but doctors certainly can, and that is what matters. It doesnt really matter what you believe, we should look at the facts. If your born poor in the US, your chance to become rich, or even get an average salary is pretty damn low, because the lack of opportunities and education.
to deny people or not cover everything. Why? because the gov will only charge $100 fine per person that the insurance will denies... and in most cases this fine cheaper than having to help people.
Obamacare was signed on March 2010 with 59% of the people disapproving according to a CNN poll. The CBO scored Obamacare on six years of coverage for 10 years of taxes, which is how the CBO showed the bill to be deficit neutral . It’s unconstitutional mandating all citizens to purchase health care. Even Pelosi said, “We have to pass the bill, so you can find out what is in it.” watch?v=KoE1R-xH5To It’s also meant to take over industry watch?v=p-bY92mcOdk
Calling it the health care bill is dumb, health care won't change it's health INSURANCE that will change for the most part. Does a for-profit insurance company even make sense to anybody? Why do we allow it?
HAHA I also love the goldline ad for this video. Those guys really know how to capitalize on fear and panic :) I can't wait for that bubble to burst and all of the Glenn Beck fans who blindly took the advice of a self proclaimed former pervert and alcoholic wil take yet another hit to their portfolios and I will just laugh.
You know a lot of these problems with health care reform would go away if they would start giving kids medical education in the primary grades, progressing to every year in the school system. Then they can open up a better job market in the medical field and a heirarchy of medical personnel based on intelligence and skill level. that way people would be able to afford medical insurance and the cost of primary insurance would be lowered, due to a better supply vs. demand industry.
Put in browser - whitehouse.gov/blog/2010/10/19/adrienne-explains-how-college-students-are-benefiting-affordable-care-act. Lucky Adrienne. She volunteers in her community & church because her parents continue to support her after they paid all her college expenses. Poor student paying off students loans (expenses another sham) has to work part-time because full-time work cannot be found in current economy and pays practically entire paycheck on coverage. This plan is a hand out to the rich.
Extending health insurance to children up to age 26 is for the rich. With the current unemployment rate this is a sham. Recent graduates working part time do not qualify. Only if they DO NOT WORK at all. That's because if the employer offers insurance, which is required by law with 50 > employees, grads must pay out of pocket for far inferior coverage. Many rich children take a year off after graduation. Poor children work part-time while looking for FT work. Rich kids get quality health care.
It's not really sad first of all he says he is just gonna read of quotes but of course he has to make his own uneducated assumtions. The man has no understanding of economics of course if you smoke you should pay more money and no they won't raise premiums because then everyone will just which to the gov plan in fact this will destroy the health insurers. And where is the bad? I guess th bill is just all sunshine and rainbows then!
@dex1391 Well if you don't want to be "forced" to pay for things, then you should stop paying for Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, police officers, firemen, parks, your library, your streets and bridges, the wars, and all of your taxes...Oh and also your political leaders health care.
@dex1391.. and so would everybody else but what do you think will happen to a country without a police force, sanitation departmen, education or fire department. Saving a few extra thouands dollars a year is not much use when you are repeatedly assaulted on the street or your house goes up in smoke. Countries where tax higher rates is higher than normal also have the best standards of living. e.g Switzerland, New Zealand, Sweden
modern freedom depends on a social community. Or maybe you mean anarchy...but thats not the same thing. think about it, and the definition of taxes and a government.
@piddleton Not true. Their overall tax rates are actually quite comparable to current US rates, because they have hybrid VAT and (surprisingly low) income taxes. The notion that they just tax the eff out of their citizens is completely untrue, and in most of these countries, people are much healthier and have much higher levels of civic participation. This allows them to spend more on better causes, rather than paying down costly liabilities for a dysfunctional populace, like the US.
@SilentmanX3 at least we know that if we get a life threatening injury we don't have to think, damn it we cant afford the treatment o well Ill just die in a ditch somewhere.
@hlfx925 Maybe you have, but my sister's friend got leukemia. She didn't have good care so she wasn't able to get the best help...she passed away last year. It costs 15,000 for radiation therapy; who can afford that? People are getting help NOW. They get to pay a 6000 premium to pay for those expensive therapies...it is a lot but it is better than the 15000 before. It is also reducing waste in the Medicare system.
@rhmetz104 but at what cost? we Americans always want to help the needy and remain oblivious to the more bigger situations, so instead of putting more money into creating a new reformed healthcare why not just fix what we already have
@imthatcreepyguy123 This is, as the guy in the video said, a bandaid. It adds some more regulation and opens centers to keep people healthy, but it doesn't fix the core problem. However, it is a necessary step in the right direction, these people need help. This bills also SAVES money in the long run.
@hlfx925 It is helping people who were denied by insurance companies. Like people with cancer. They need it but they are a "bad investment" so they don't get it.
Limitations? I don't see how it limits anyone. It makes people accountable for paying their own health care bills and makes sure health insurance companies cannot be jerks and refuse coverage to those who need it most.
Finally, although the fight over health care reform was partisan, the bill that passed was the product of bipartisanship. What’s gotten lost in the media coverage of the fight in Congress was that the final draft of the bill has more than 200 Republican amendments in it. That is cause for hope in this polarized political climate.
With this bill, the Democrats can no longer lay claim to being the party of individual civil rights. What we've got here is a stinker filled with industry kickbacks, and which basically amounts to socialized obesity/smoking/addiction. Yeah, no thanks--my healthy body is my own, and will never belong to any industry, no matter how much the dem's twist the commerce clause to skin another dime off this working boy...
Vote em out! For whom, you ask? Hell, I don't know... Ron Paul? Aw damn...
@thereinliestheribHello. I'm a Drama student in London, and am about to start creating a piece of theatre about the American Health System. To do this, I need to interview (via e-mail) American citizens. Would you be interested in taking part? I would be very interested in your opinions, as an American, on the issues surrounding Health Care in you country.
How about next time we learn to edit? Any law over 11 pages needs to be rewritten so its at least interesting for you (and less experienced readers) to read.
If you lawyers can't even wade through that swampy documeant, how do you expect ESL students (plus slow readers like me) to feel as if they have any say in the laws they're compelled to obey that they don't even understand?
How many people actually read the 1000s of pages of dreadfully yawnful fine print the night before you were peer-pressured into signing that law school textbook?
That's okay; how many of us sign YES! I WANT ITUNES! GO AHEAD AND SPY ON ME! without actually reading their permission slip first?
Well, God knows I love apple pie. And those blackberries are kind of tasty, too.
a uninsured person go to the emergency room, the hospital pays the bill so that mean 2 things,1.the price of common medical test/exams are gonna rise.2.the price of insurance/copays are rising for those who are insured. so those who have insurance will be the ones who accepts universal healthcare.if everyone is aginst healthcare how about raising minimum wage so people can afford it but yall don't want to add to the defict.how bout making it afforable so they can but yall opposed that too. smh
If you think that the Federal Government does not have the "Right" (God Given) to make you purchase a product that you do not want to purchase AND you live in the Great State of Ohio, please sign the Healthcare Freedom Ammendment so we can get it on the ballot. Then it will be an Issue on the ballot for every voter. This will be an Ohio Constitutional Ammendment that says the Feds can not force you to buy health insurance. Google "The Ohio Project"
It is disheartening that people don't fully examine the underlying issues associated with our hearth care system. Normally, in a competitive, for-profit system, the supplier of a good or service has to cater to its customers in order to stay in business. When oligopolies are present, as seen in health care, incentives for companies to serve their clients diminish. Oligopolies usually arise out of misaligned government incentives via legislation. We are barking up the wrong tree on this issue.
In 2011, the value of your health care plan, will be included as income on your taxes. Yes America, you will be taxed on your health care plan! Sec. HR3590.
If only the government's goal was to provide affordable health care to Americans I would vote for this bill. However, that is not the case. The Feds now can force people to buy health insurance, albeit crappy insurance compared to what you could previously buy with your hard earned dollars. The Feds want people to buy their gov't prescribed insurance, and if anyone has anything other than what they offer they will tax them. This isn't reform, it is takeover.
@GOPofHawaii If you think that the Federal Government does not have the "Right" (God Given) to make you purchase a product that you do not want to purchase AND you live in the Great State of Ohio, please sign the Healthcare Freedom Ammendment so we can get it on the ballot. National healthcare would be a good idea were it that we could trust the crooks in Washington. When the lobbyists, the ama ,the fda and overlapping committees
begin their dance it's only going to be more costly, less effective and way
more corrupt. What we needed was litigation limits, prescription drug reform
including an end to these drug company-doctor payolas and a separation of
hospital and doctor- financial ownership. This bill wasn't thought out.
@atmdusty The bill does not anywhere state that healthcare will be mandatory. If you would care to prove me wrong, I am going to send you a link to the ACTUAL text within the bill. The government cannot force you to pay for anything you don't have to, this stuff that you hear about it being bad is just FOX news and the Conservative party making rumors and spreading this propaganda as if it was the real text, but with no proof. To anyone with doubts, go to the Whitehouse website, or google myths.
Where does this guy produce this show from? His basement? Isnt Young Turks a song by Rod Stewart? This guy is to the left of Fidel Castro. Found this post by accident...hope I never find it again...
aahhhh, health care legislation, good times. I remember why dems droped the public option: so they could get some republican support. Because, you know, if all republicans had voted no on the bill, it would have never passed!!!!..... fucktards....
@theclash06013 Making it illegal for insurance companies to be traded on wall street would not f*ck the insurance companies at all, it would only make them accountable to policy holders instead of greedy investors, who force them to make more money next quarter than last quarter in order to line the investors pockets.
@durhamdf If an insurance company is held accountable to the policy holders, I. E, you and i, then there entire objective would be to give us the best services for the least amount of money instead of primarily trying to make money for investors. The same reason a dividend paying whole life insurance policy is so much better than a term life insurance policy. The whole life insurance company is working for you instead of wall street like a term life insurance company does.
@teambenjamin1 That wouldn't change anything. The profit motive is still there, that doesn't change because it is a private company. They are just responsible for making money for a smaller number of shareholders . The only way to completey eliminate the profit motive is the single payer and there are a lot of problems with that especially in such a large country
@durhamdf There is nothing wrong with a profit motive for a private company, why would they provide a service for free. What I am saying is, yes, make money, but not for investors who push the company to make more than they need to just to satisfy investors by making the stock go up. Make money, but be held accountable to the policy holders not wealthy investors.
@teambenjamin1 There is no way that coud ever happen with a private insurance company. They are still only motivated by bringing profit to the investers whether they are stockholders in a pubic company or the owners in a private one.
@durhamdf They should and are motivated by profit its a free market after all, but stockholders in a public company will always want them to make more money next quarter than last so they can make money on the stocks. However a private company doesn't depend on appeasing stockholders to remain a viable company, they only have to make more money in correlation to inflation. When investors push a company to make more money next quarter than last, we get less coverage for more money!
@teambenjamin1 I guess it is true that public copanies are a little more short term gains oriented, but in the end they are striving to make the most money that they can and build as much value to the company as they can. That is one advantage of a single payer system, there is no profit margin (although fairly small in the U.S.) that increases costs.
Be careful what you wish for, it might come true. Do we want someone to tell us we have to get health insurance? Does the government ever drive down costs or create more competition? More community involvement in health education would be a good start. The evil part of this bill wants you to believe that people will be hurt. It is very easy to play to human emotion cause we all have them. Its somewhat more difficult when we realize it is our responsibility to take care of those around us.
@Taketheride23 There is nothing in the bill that says you have to get or pay for health insurance. It is simply a option for those who aren't covered, and yes it will bring competition which is good because it will drive down premiums, but possibly raise them in higher private plans. The overall concept of the bill is good, because as it works right now, big corporations run healthcare and pay the hospitals and choose selectively who to cover. Basically its one big bandage like he said..
@cgoff87 The reconciliation bill says that, but doesn't the IRS take money out of peoples accounts or jail them for not paying taxes? How can they pay for everything in the bill it if they don't get people to do so in some way? The government will force people by taking away your income which is compensation for your labor, and is your personal property. The bill is trying to bully the individual to submit to someone else making decisions about your own body. To me that sucks
Bill states that Health insurance will be mandatory like car insurance. Plus this bill will not create competition as everyone will be required to have insurance and allow the insurance companies to charge close to anything they can fit through the loop holes.
I will agree that the concept of the bill is good but the only people who benefit from this bill are the insurance companies.

That is why if Americans want real health care or benefits that work, the Federal government especially congress must lose their benefits which most of them do not deserve thinking of congress.
Other points that should be made for politicians, one cannot enter office with some money and leave rich. The politicians have salaries but most gain much more money from other endeavors that usually conflict with serving the people.
How are they going to fix Health when they are broken, too?
Congress is discussing increasing the minimum age for people collecting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid from 70-72 yrs to 78-80 yrs. For the average Joe and Jill the requirement to get benefits just got pushed out another 8 yrs.
What is Dem Congress and Obama do for Union Federal Workers? The Federal Union workers were offered early retirement at 55 yrs from 65 yrs. So they get to work for 20 yrs and collect 40 yrs benefits.
100,000 x $50K x 40 yrs = $200 Billion Debt + Interest.
Poor Republicans. They hate a black man in the White House, they hate a Latina on the Supreme Court, they hate that by 2012 non-white (Hispanic) births will be the majority in the US..."they want their country back..." Ain't gonna happen. Ever again. Learn to speak Spanish! Eat tacos--be happy!!!
To all you young people already scrambling to start careers during a recession, find a career job, how you like paying more due to Obama so older people (I, ME, MY) can get cheaper HC coverage and have more beer money? Thank you Obama, I love this Hope & Change shit as long as your ass is paying for me. That means a 17% increase on YOUR premiums and $500 less a year in your pocket and it olny goes up, haha. I will be livin' la vida loca while your ass is working so I can live the life.
Abe "Adolf" Lincoln had plans to ship U.S.'s Negroes to South America. Here they would fend for themselves. He was a proponent of territories entering the Union as "Free" states. Free? "Free" meant that no Negroes were permitted to settle there. "Free" as in Negro-free.
like paul mooney says "getting free was never in the book" blacks were never meant to be free in the U.S. and it still holds true today with all the laws aimed at minorities.
If the black population of the United States were viewed as a black nation unto themselves, they would constitute the richest black nation that has ever existed.

@getyoasshome The word "agenda' isn't a bad word. Anyone you vote for has an agenda. Right now we someone with an agenda to get us back on track. I don't care what party they belong to but someone needs to right the ship. I think only the real cake eaters are still bent on thinking Obama can. I just hope to god that young people don't solely rely on people like Cenk or Beck for perspective. I've been watching many TYT vids and they are one of the most hypocritical groups giving misinformation.
its still not the original agenda....the agenda always changes as soon as they get in office regardless of what party they are from. politicians are like WWE wrestlers they talk shit about each other on tv but meanwhile they are all colleagues screwing each others wives and laughing. its not about obama, NOBODY CAN!! this country was sold off year ago. people have been fooled into thinking they have a say. they do what they want regardless of how the citizens feel about their decisions.
@getyoasshome Well if nobody can then we need to stop throwing billions of dollars away because that IS real and it IS about Obama. I did like the WWE reference though.
its not about obama...nobody cared when the last 4 presidents threw money in the garbage but now all of a sudden everybody wants to whine. bush threw away massive amounts of money, clinton did, bush sr? we dont even want to mention him, and we can all thank reagan for deregulation and cocaine. i think there is less to whine about with barack. at least hes not contributing to the social ills of the poor people by bringing in drugs and starting wars. isnt ollie north still free? hmmmmm.
Half of that didn't make sense and the other half has become cliche. I think you need to find out why healthcare is a big "fucking" deal. Biden wasn't talking about the 30 million people who are about to get healthcare, he was talking about the political implications of the process to get it passed. It has been proposed by every Democratic president for the last 60 years. The dems achieved a victory but im afraid their idea of victory differs from yours and those 30 million people.
Who cares? I have nice breasts. Take that, Obama!

DerektheDuctTape 2 months ago
Should we solve that by getting government involved, force people to buy insurance under penalty of prison, and call it 'giving them free insurance', or should we provide tax breaks to the charitable organizations providing free medical care to those who can't afford it so they can expand their reach? It's not about whether people should have access to healthcare but whether we want to create criminals or expand freedom.
gphx 3 months ago
Let's face it, the reason why health care is so expensive is because Americans are fat, lazy and out of shape. Healthy people who bust their butts 2 hours per day in the gym are subsidizing these lazy couch potatoes. You should pay a rate according to how fit you are . If you don't like high premiums then go work out and eat healthy. I'm tired of paying high costs because of fat lazy people who eat junk food.
como651 4 months ago
If they want to fix health care why don't they pass a law that makes mandatory screening annually of anyone on health insurance. The further your body fat percentage, blood pressure, resting heart rate etc are from the ideal measurements the more you should pay. When it costs money to be out of shape people will get in shape and the cost of health care will come way down.
como651 4 months ago
This guy is ignorant. The reason private health insurance CAN be expensive is due to the high cost of health care itself...
MrTrickdaddy1980 4 months ago
this guy says we should have government insurance for everyone, but then says something about "if you've been paying your premium"... well many people can't and will never be able to afford those premiums, so either the poor are screwed or basically the government will be totally funding insurance by tax dollars.
i think private insurance can probably work if the government tries to stay out of it, and government insurance can also. this in between stuff is messy and much too expensive.

Thats horseshit.
Ask anyone in the UK. Where not bankrupt and we have a smaller deficit than the US. We also have free at the pointof service healthcare which must be doing some right as the latest satisfaction survey recently conducted on the public produced an all time high rate of happiness with the NHS of 72%
Frankly, you in the US are insane as you are paying RIDICULOUS amounts for shitty insurance that covers nothing most of the time while we have a better system for free.
cisseshairdresser 9 months ago
@cisseshairdresser UK has "free" healthcare? You also have high unemployment(~20% unemployed youth), services are being cut, college tuition skyrocketing, riots every week, ...ect. I know plenty of British citizens living here that aren't exactly rushing back to the UK for their free healthcare. In fact, most who come here, stay here.
realm313 9 months ago
@realm313
Riots every week?!!
cisseshairdresser 9 months ago
@realm313 ha ha our unemployment levels is lower than America, and college tuition is still much cheaper than the US. People here don't have to pay $100,000 attend Cambridge or Oxford. There are plenty of problems with the UK though. e.g weather, overpopulation. Therefore I'm not surprised that your british associates are not running back but I don't think it is because of the NHS. But the truth is that most Brits don't head for America. If they do immigrate, OZ or NZ is the popular choice.

grnbbllntrck 8 months ago
@grnbbllntrck - If you are talking about Canada and their taxes that pay for their healthcare, remember that their wages are about double then in the US. Also, If a Canadian decides to get treatment in the United States, the Canadian government pays for it. Like I have said 100 times before, by the time my Grandson turns 18, I hope he has to look in a history book to find out what a private insurance company WAS!
phillipmarch22 8 months ago 7
@phillipmarch22 that's not exactly correct. our government will only cover what it would cost in canada. for example a stay in an american hospital costs $4000 for 2 nights but a stay in a canadian hospital for 2 nights costs $400. Therefore, the government will only cover $400 if you stay in america and you're in charge of the rest which is $3600. Again, it's only an example and the reason why we're cheaper is because our gov. negotiate for price...
mrcanadaboy188 2 months ago
my wife has congestive heart failure and thus can't get private health ins., and was turned down for Medicaid. Too bad we don't live in Canada, France, Sweden, etc..
justin1138 10 months ago
@justin1138 Other countries are able to have successful socialized care because they aren't liable for such extraordinary pool risk in the form of a universally unhealthy population. If you want to whine about how expensive American HC is, then take it up with a 34% (and skyrocketing) obesity rate.

@TheXerxes004 rape us in the wallet?
let's make a comparison. The US is THE ONLY developed country without universal health care or even FORM of it.
That being said, look at the US and France. France has "socialized medicine", they also have free education, and free child care and other stuff and only pay 10% of their income in tax total for all of that and some.
We pay approx 30,000 + for college, easily pay 60,000 + for medical bills, and 3,000 for childcare AND we pay taxes.
afrasianxchicxoxo 1 year ago
@TheXerxes004
oh don't forget that we make MORE money than france buy about 5-10 THOUSAND dollars, but where does that money go?
Oh now I remember...
Not to forget that over 60% of debt in the US is caused by medical bills... why are we in a recession again? oh yea... DEBT! ha...
oh and that families spend more than 1/3 of their income on health insurance IF they have it on top of the stuff listed above?
The only argument against health care is that current health insurance still have power

Stkieran 11 months ago
@srwilli4m Oh so you're not paying for those "freeloaders" by paying such high premiums when they go to hospitals? Wow, i guess you are confused about how our healthcare system works. It works perfectly well in Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and i don't see them bitching and whining about it. I guess they must be morons.
Stingerbillion 11 months ago
@Stingerbillion ALL socialized healthcare is crap. good luck waiting weeks to get checked up on unless you are in serious condition. Even then, they will try to tell you that you have something you dont just so they can avoid expensive treatment. People that dont pay into the system should not get help.
srwilli4m 11 months ago
@srwilli4m I completely disagree. Just because Americans go to the hospitals for common cold or back pain, then yes, doctors will not treat you and will someone who has serious case. I don't understand what is the fear you guys are feeling. Maybe it's the obsession to go to the hospital or can't tell the difference between what is serious or not. My cousin lives in Canada, and she loves her healthcare, like many. She gets treated and doesn't have to worry about the cost or anything.
Stingerbillion 11 months ago
@Stingerbillion why the hell would I go to a hospital for a cold??? I'll go to a doctors office. why do I want to pay a larger than usual premium when I choose to stay healthy? I dont want to pay for people who smoke, eat mcdonalds all day, and are lazy freeloaders that dont pay into SHIT. Socialized healthcare just leaves longer lines and lower wages for doctors who deserve every penny. I work for my money that I CHOOSE how to spend, how about you?
srwilli4m 11 months ago
@srwilli4m We already HAVE longer waiting lines. There aren't enough doctors in specialize medicine because the money isn't all that good. Again, you already are paying high insurance premiums for those same "freeloaders, who eat mcdonald all day" because they don't have insurance. By universal healthcare, waiting times in emergency rooms would decrease, as hospitals would not be treating the uninsured for common problems. I agree with you regarding doctors salaries would decrease to $150,000.
Stingerbillion 11 months ago
@Stingerbillion The money IS good the schooling is the expensive part. Thats why doctors DESERVE every penny they get (for the most part) if I ever wanted to become a doctor and someone told me I could only earn 150k a year because of socialist bullshit I would never become one. Waiting times would increase because every free loading bastard would be able to go in the hospital for all their fatass lazy needs. PRIVATE healthcare companies should be regulated but we dont need socialist bullshit
srwilli4m 11 months ago
@srwilli4m That's completely untrue. Waiting times will decrease under such plan because those freeloaders/needy will be going to the doctor and not have to worry about going to the hospital for small issues that you and i can manage. Also, private healthcare companies need to be regulated. Why do you think they are screwing the avg customer by dropping them from plan and not covering them with surgeries people desperately need. There is small con to Universal, but there are also many benefits.
Stingerbillion 11 months ago
@srwilli4m If i may, i would like to send you personal message. I can't take this "500 character limit". It's pissing me off.
Stingerbillion 11 months ago
@srwilli4m Its actually pretty good. Every country in the world that has it you can bet your life on the majority wouldnt vote against it. Germany, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Austria, etc... even the conservative wouldnt vote against it there. It is the best thing ever, here you go to the doctor and you have to pay extra because they have to calculate people who are uninsured which can not be denied, and everyone can get insurance without being denied! Big step forward
101Politricks 10 months ago
@101Politricks Sorry if I eat correctly, exercise, and avoid health risks like smoking. No one should be forced to pay for people that have medical complications because of their life choices. PERIOD. With socialized medicine comes huge waiting lines, underpaid doctors, and doctors trying to tell you that your "fine" because its more expensive for them to treat you. Why do you think the best doctors are in America? Its because insurance is run by private corporations. Govts cant run shit
srwilli4m 10 months ago
@srwilli4m Well thats good for you ;), but I dont know if you aware that there are some people with prexisting conditions? That cant get insurance because of it? Or people that have an accident, break their leg and need to sell their property because of it. The best doctors are in America, but not for you buddy, you wouldnt be able to pay for them, you get what you can pay for.Long Waiting lines is bs, I have lived in many countries with SM and that was never the case for me.
101Politricks 10 months ago
@srwilli4m p.s. Socialized Medicine doesnt mean everyone pays the same, people who smoke, drink, etc...still have to pay a higher premium than someone who is healthy. What you dont see is, people are dying in this country because they cant get insurance, they have to sell their property, they recieve low quality treatment because their not able to pay for the high quality treatment which has a negative effect on their daily lifes. Plus if you dont earn enough money you cant live healthy.
101Politricks 10 months ago
@101Politricks right im sure the government would be really good at telling who smokes and drinks or eats shitty food because they are so good at doing everything else (yeah right). For every legitimate person that deserves help I would say theres 3-4 more that are just paying for their poor life choices. Maybe they should have finished high school or gone to college instead of freeloading.
srwilli4m 10 months ago
@srwilli4m I dont care about those who broke up with High school, but they make a small percentage. Many cant even go to college because they dont have the money. And yes maybe the gov. cant tell, but doctors certainly can, and that is what matters. It doesnt really matter what you believe, we should look at the facts. If your born poor in the US, your chance to become rich, or even get an average salary is pretty damn low, because the lack of opportunities and education.

Saving a few extra thouands dollars a year is not much use when you are repeatedly assaulted on the street or your house goes up in smoke. Countries where tax higher rates is higher than normal also have the best standards of living. e.g Switzerland, New Zealand, Sweden

It is also reducing waste in the Medicare system.

the problem with the health care bill we have now is that it is helping no one, those who need the most help are getting neglected.
rhmetz104 1 year ago
this is helping the people who need to be helped
rhmetz104 1 year ago
@rhmetz104 but at what cost? we Americans always want to help the needy and remain oblivious to the more bigger situations, so instead of putting more money into creating a new reformed healthcare why not just fix what we already have
imthatcreepyguy123 1 year ago
@imthatcreepyguy123 This is, as the guy in the video said, a bandaid. It adds some more regulation and opens centers to keep people healthy, but it doesn't fix the core problem. However, it is a necessary step in the right direction, these people need help. This bills also SAVES money in the long run.
bobojoe1 1 year ago
but what "people" does this new system help then? Who is this new system favoring?
hlfx925 1 year ago
@hlfx925 It is helping people who were denied by insurance companies. Like people with cancer. They need it but they are a "bad investment" so they don't get it.
bobojoe1 1 year ago
That is what this law addresses, these people are getting help now under the new system. Under the old system, they were being ignored.
bobojoe1 1 year ago
the healthcare bill needs to be changed, it's obviously not working there are many people out there uninsured who need serious medical attention.
rhmetz104 1 year ago
Limitations? I don't see how it limits anyone. It makes people accountable for paying their own health care bills and makes sure health insurance companies cannot be jerks and refuse coverage to those who need it most.
bobojoe1 1 year ago
I don't like the sound of this. I think it will create too many limitations for the average American that are unnecessary!

"The Health Reform You Haven't Heard About"
Finally, although the fight over health care reform was partisan, the bill that passed was the product of bipartisanship.

So Congressfolks,
How about next time we learn to edit? Any law over 11 pages needs to be rewritten so its at least interesting for you (and less experienced readers) to read.
If you lawyers can't even wade through that swampy documeant, how do you expect ESL students (plus slow readers like me) to feel as if they have any say in the laws they're compelled to obey that they don't even understand?
eastariel 1 year ago
So, Congressfolks,
How many people actually read the 1000s of pages of dreadfully yawnful fine print the night before you were peer-pressured into signing that law school textbook?
That's okay; how many of us sign YES! I WANT ITUNES! GO AHEAD AND SPY ON ME! without actually reading their permission slip first?
Well, God knows I love apple pie. And those blackberries are kind of tasty, too.

a uninsured person go to the emergency room, the hospital pays the bill so that mean 2 things,1.the price of common medical test/exams are gonna rise.2.the price of insurance/copays are rising for those who are insured. so those who have insurance will be the ones who accepts universal healthcare.if everyone is aginst healthcare how about raising minimum wage so people can afford it but yall don't want to add to the defict.how bout making it afforable so they can but yall opposed that too. smh

Sec. HR3590.
All in favor.....please self deport.
littletopper2 1 year ago
If only the government's goal was to provide affordable health care to Americans I would vote for this bill. However, that is not the case. The Feds now can force people to buy health insurance, albeit crappy insurance compared to what you could previously buy with your hard earned dollars. The Feds want people to buy their gov't prescribed insurance, and if anyone has anything other than what they offer they will tax them. This isn't reform, it is takeover.

OBAMA IS A CROOK

Simple ways to lower healthcare costs:
1) tort reform
2)ban drug companies from advertising their products.( let doctors decide what the person needs not a 30 second ad on Network TV)
3)have hospitials charge the person directly then the insurance reimburse the costs.
southernborn1860 1 year ago
National healthcare would be a good idea were it that we could trust the crooks in Washington. When the lobbyists, the ama ,the fda and overlapping committees
begin their dance it's only going to be more costly, less effective and way
more corrupt. What we needed was litigation limits, prescription drug reform
including an end to these drug company-doctor payolas and a separation of
hospital and doctor- financial ownership. This bill wasn't thought out.
Typical of our government.
badang1962 1 year ago
@atmdusty The bill does not anywhere state that healthcare will be mandatory. If you would care to prove me wrong, I am going to send you a link to the ACTUAL text within the bill. The government cannot force you to pay for anything you don't have to, this stuff that you hear about it being bad is just FOX news and the Conservative party making rumors and spreading this propaganda as if it was the real text, but with no proof. why not make it illegal for insurance companies to be traded on wall street?
teambenjamin1 1 year ago 30
@teambenjamin1 Because they need to make money? We can't totally f*ck the insurance companies.
theclash06013 1 year ago
@theclash06013 Making it illegal for insurance companies to be traded on wall street would not f*ck the insurance companies at all, it would only make them accountable to policy holders instead of greedy investors, who force them to make more money next quarter than last quarter in order to line the investors pockets.
teambenjamin1 1 year ago
@teambenjamin1 what would that accomplish?
durhamdf 1 year ago
@durhamdf If an insurance company is held accountable to the policy holders, I. E, you and i, then there entire objective would be to give us the best services for the least amount of money instead of primarily trying to make money for investors. The same reason a dividend paying whole life insurance policy is so much better than a term life insurance policy. The whole life insurance company is working for you instead of wall street like a term life insurance company does.
teambenjamin1 1 year ago
@teambenjamin1 That wouldn't change anything. The profit motive is still there, that doesn't change because it is a private company. They are just responsible for making money for a smaller number of shareholders . The only way to completey eliminate the profit motive is the single payer and there are a lot of problems with that especially in such a large country
durhamdf 1 year ago
@durhamdf There is nothing wrong with a profit motive for a private company, why would they provide a service for free. What I am saying is, yes, make money, but not for investors who push the company to make more than they need to just to satisfy investors by making the stock go up. Make money, but be held accountable to the policy holders not wealthy investors.
teambenjamin1 1 year ago
@teambenjamin1 There is no way that coud ever happen with a private insurance company. They are still only motivated by bringing profit to the investers whether they are stockholders in a pubic company or the owners in a private one.
durhamdf 1 year ago
@durhamdf They should and are motivated by profit its a free market after all, but stockholders in a public company will always want them to make more money next quarter than last so they can make money on the stocks. However a private company doesn't depend on appeasing stockholders to remain a viable company, they only have to make more money in correlation to inflation. When investors push a company to make more money next quarter than last, we get less coverage for more money!
teambenjamin1 1 year ago

Taketheride23 1 year ago
@Taketheride23 There is nothing in the bill that says you have to get or pay for health insurance. It is simply a option for those who aren't covered, and yes it will bring competition which is good because it will drive down premiums, but possibly raise them in higher private plans. The overall concept of the bill is good, because as it works right now, big corporations run healthcare and pay the hospitals and choose selectively who to cover. Basically its one big bandage like he said..
cgoff87 1 year ago
@cgoff87 The reconciliation bill says that, but doesn't the IRS take money out of peoples accounts or jail them for not paying taxes? How can they pay for everything in the bill it if they don't get people to do so in some way? The government will force people by taking away your income which is compensation for your labor, and is your personal property. The bill is trying to bully the individual to submit to someone else making decisions about your own body. To me that sucks
Taketheride23 1 year ago
@cgoff87
Bill states that Health insurance will be mandatory like car insurance. Plus this bill will not create competition as everyone will be required to have insurance and allow the insurance companies to charge close to anything they can fit through the loop holes.
I will agree that the concept of the bill is good but the only people who benefit from this bill are the insurance companies.

myHome109 1 year ago
@myHome109
How are they going to fix Health when they are broken, too?
atmdusty 1 year ago
Congress is discussing increasing the minimum age for people collecting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid from 70-72 yrs to 78-80 yrs. For the average Joe and Jill the requirement to get benefits just got pushed out another 8 yrs.
What is Dem Congress and Obama do for Union Federal Workers? The Federal Union workers were offered early retirement at 55 yrs from 65 yrs. So they get to work for 20 yrs and collect 40 yrs benefits.
100,000 x $50K x 40 yrs = $200 Billion Debt + Interest.

Half of that didn't make sense and the other half has become cliche. I think you need to find out why healthcare is a big "fucking" deal. It has been proposed by every Democratic president for the last 60 years. The dems achieved a victory but im afraid their idea of victory differs from yours and those 30 million people.
