  • I now live in Wellington NZ, and i saw a redpoll in the city. I first thought it was a female sparrow with pollen on top of its head. After a bit of research, i found out what it was. Apparantly redpoll's are quite rare in city centres.

  • Wow, did you film this bird in Cornwall?

  • @wkwildlife Yes, It was visiting my garden for a couple of months. Its the only one I've ever seen.

  • @GoldfinchGarden I live in Devon and have never seen one

  • Not seen any of these birds this year yet, used to get a large flock in our garden on the Nyger seed!

  • @stevie1974 This one liked nyger seed. I'd like to see a flock turn up.

  • Lovely little birds. Are they doing ok in Britain at the moment?

  • They sure are lovely little birds. They're struggling a bit in this colder than usual winter.

  • Saw four small birds with brown head in my garden in Reading this morning (4 Feb 2010). Your video helped me identify them, so thanks. Also getting a Fieldfare visiting everyday since the cold weather started

  • I had never seen a Redpoll until last week...lovely little bird. I've also had a couple of Fieldfares coming to my garden this year. Cheers ~ Paul

  • Funny you've had Fieldfares as well. With the very cold weather this year it been very interesting to see these unusual visitors, BTW, here in Reading large numbers of Read Kites are a common sight these days. I don't think they've reached Cornwall yet. John

  • Hi John, you're right. No Red Kites down my way...I wish there was. Paul

  • The Redpoll looks so beautiful... This bird has never come to my garden but I wait in anticipation...You must have been very happy to capture this new bird..even me too..

  • Oh yes...I was very happy indeed when this little beauty arrived. I had never seen one before. I hope a Redpoll pays you a visit one day.

  • So lovely thank you for sharing..

  • My pleasure...Thank you

  • pretty little bird

  • It sure is...Thank you

  • nice little bird, i would love to see one bird use my thistle feeder ;)

if your camera is a hd camera you would of had it pretty close because i heard the zoom is not great on hd camcorders.

  • Suprisingly the Redpoll was not very shy so I managed to get pretty close. It was only for the really close clips that I had to set the camera recording and leave the area.

My camera has got a 16X optical zoom.Cheers

  • Very nice Video, what's the scientific Name from this Bird?

  • Thank you...Its Latin name is Carduelis cabaret

  • Excellent ! I've never seen a Redpoll in my garden... it would be nice to get one on the thistle seed feeders :-)

  • Thank you, I had to check in my birding book to see what it was...Thanks again ~ Paul

  • super

  • Thank you Sean, and Best wishes to you ~ Paul

  • Such great closeups here :-) Very nice.

  • Thank you, All the best ~ Paul

  • I think this little beauty is probably a Lesser Redpoll and not the very similar Mealy Redpoll. If anyone can confirm this it would be appreciated.
