lady's secret will ALWAYS be better than zenyatta. I dont under stand why they bred lady secret when she was still able to race..... they should of waited till she retired.
Great race. Almost wish she ran in the Classic that year, she would have won easily, I'm sure of it. This was too easy for her. The Classic would have been spectacular with her in there. Its a shame her campaign the following year after this would turn out to be nothing short of a disaster.
wow this is the first time i have ever heard of lady's secret and the first race i have ever watched of her! i like her alot...how many races did she win?
whose lame brain idea was it to change the name of the race? Switch it back to the original namesake, Lady's Secret. It's a disgrace...racing fans will always remember the Iron Lady!
Lady's Secret was very very good as a 3 year old, sweeping New York's fall championship for fillies and mares. But she was absolutely GREAT at 4. She won 10 of 15 starts(at 4), winning 8 grade 1 races. Thtat's the most grade 1s any horse has ever won in a single year since the grading system was created in 73'. She was 9 for 11 against females. And though she was only 1 for 4 vs. males, she won the grade 1 Whitney, ran a monster 2nd to Precisionist in the Woodward, and was 3rd in the Met Mile.

Lady's Secret could do not wrong that season! Lukas had her perfectly trained. Said it in another post but great decade for fillies and mares with two HOTY and two Derby winners.
Lady´s Secret was, without any doubt, one of the greatest ever... She belongs to the very select group of Ruffian, Gallorete, Personal Ensing, Busher... The "Iron Lady" faced and beat so many good horses and fillies... yes, those were unforgetable years...
Me too. I loved Alydar. My dad, who's been a handicapper since I was a kid, told me that Alydar would never change leads. You can see it in the Triple Crown races. If Alydar had changed leads, he might've had the stamina to beat Affirmed.
Lady's Secret is a beautiful horse with a mind of her own ! In one race she decided to stop running and watch the crowd. She must have had a headache that day ! She is a beautiful lady with colors of lavender gray with black tail and mane.
I was there when for this race and I rememember that it was the race of the day. The one that the crowd which the crowd was waiting. The card started early in the day facilitate ECT. The crowd started cheering and clapping as she approached the club house turn onthe 1st circuit. As she crossed the line there was a huge surge to get to see her come in. The rest of the day was an anti climax after that as everybody knew they had seen the horse of the year and that she was thetrue start ofthe day.
I love it when Durkin also says: "..and it's the gray daughter of Secretariat", and "Lady's Secret in front by four!", and "...and here is a BRILLIANT champion! Lady's Secret, another FLAWLESS performance!"
Thank you...She had class and she had a big body for a mare....did you notice...I like how she mentioned the grey daughter of Sec too....I would love to see those videos if you get them...I also liked it when Smarty Jones won because they mentioned his lineage back to Big Red...
In 1986 Lady's Secret raced the boys in some races too, and won. One of those I think was the Whitney Stakes. Can anyone post that video, or any of her other races?
Thanks for the video on Secs daughter...So nice to see someone else looks for his offspring also...Anyone have video on General Assembly??? He also looked like his pappy and won either the Preakness or the Belmont?
Yeah, General Assembly looked just like his daddy, but sadly he never won any of the Triple Crown races. The Bid dominated the 3 year old season that year, save the Belmont.
you are correct on she did die during foaling, but keep in mind that she did give birth to eleven foals before her death. incuding seven money earners. two of them made near or over 100,000 and her best philly was by mr.prospector made over 500,000, her name was good looks in 1992.
Yes indeed, Lady's Secret did have success in the breeding shed. I see where my above statement is worded inaccurately. My actual intent was: "She was bred [which I meant as success in giving birth, oops] but sadly died while foaling, [which I should have said came later]." Hope that clears things up. What did you think of the race she ran here? Wasn't she terrific? Take care.
simply brilliant, it was delightfully reminiscent of her father wasnt it? im just curious as to why she didnt run in the oaks or any of the philly crow races, or did she? and finish off the board? i do see she made 45 starts and finished off the board only eight times, pretty impressive.
Her trainer D Wayne Lukas kept her sprinting until the fall of her 3 year old season in 1985, so she did not run in races like the Kentucky Oaks, Mother Goose, and Coaching Club American Oaks. Evidently, Lukas did not feel Ladys Secret could rate when she was younger.

AND THE THEY'RE OFF! lol! listen to the begining! poor lady's secret! Why don't they find a different one for zenyatta!

I think it is tragedy that they are going to rename the Lady Secret Handicap to the Zenyatta Handicap

I completely agree. What an insult to the memory of the great daughter of Secretariat. I love Zenyatta, but they could have named a new race for her.
Take care.

She ran 15 races that year. You don't see that any more.

Lady's Secret was great, just like her daddy. What a shame that her foals weren't as good as she was. Guess they picked the wrong stallions for her.

Yeah, The Iron Lady wasn't the tallest or longest horse, but she was sure was THICK, just like daddy!
I'm really hoping it pans out that I get those races, it would make my month!
Smarty Jones...I love that horse too. What a talent he was. Agreed. A fine descendant of our boy, Secretariat!
Thanks so much for your time and continued support.
God bless and talk to you soon.

Hi. Funny you should say that.
I might have obtained The Iron Lady's '86 Whitney and Personal Ensign's '88 Whitney, where she also beat the boys.
I've got my fingers crosssed. I'm DYING to see both of them!
Here's to hoping! Thanks for watching.
