lol why dont u guys go look at real cars, even a 1994 nissan skyline would blow that piece of shit away, bmws are over rated and over priced, why would people pay the money for an m3 when u could have something much better for less or around the same value. doesnt make sense
@jonthedonable a skyline would get destroyed by an m3, i can confirm that from what i have heard the new skyline is very quick and would win (with turbo's), but they are over 100k, and a skyline without a turbo is not that fast
@abmilzo does it matter if it has a turbo or not? the new nissan gtr has 470ish bhp. thats why its fast. and the skyline of its time would beat the m3 of its time round a track. maybe a 1998 m3 could beat a 93 skyline. lol who cares. who wants to pay double the price just for a badge and a flashy posers car anyway. the people who buy m3s are a certain type of person. and to top it off, nissan gtr is around the same price as the new m3, maybe cheaper. i know what i would be spending MY money on!
@jonthedonable haha, well a stock skyline 2.5 as in no turbo has 155hp, the new m3 is a second slower to 60 than the new skyline but has no turbo, the only skyline that would beat an m3 is the new one, or one that has had around 50k of tuning done, or good turbos, it is down to preference, the bmw is very common though
@abmilzo look, u have to compare care with equal bhp, otherwise its not fair, turbo or not, cars are usually judged against equal bhp and weight. the fact is nissan are known for turbos, bmw maybe not, doesnt matter, the new skyline is an overall better car than the new m3 for track racing, although yeah the m3 is great and always has been, its too obvious though, i like to find cars that are better with less " look at me aspect" thats what puts me off. i just like good performance cars
@jonthedonable don't mind the bhp, it dont mean anything, it is torque you should be looking at, that is what determins the cars acceleration, ok say a skyline is better, which personally i don't agree (preference), the skyline gt-r is quicker, but if you put the same turbo in the bmw m3, it would be quiker
@abmilzo yeah no wonder the comment was removed. lol totally irrelevant, anyone can tune cars to make them faster. just shows me how much u know about cars. and straight line speed is not all a car is about. go educate yourself on the subject then come back with something intelligent to say rather than just saying what you THINK!! bye bye!
@jonthedonable educate myself like being a automobile engineer, i was pointing out to you boy racers, that a tuned v tuned car a skyline would lose, and yes i am biased against skylines because im sick of hearing people thinking they know what they are on about when actualy not having a clue a bmw is a better made car and a stronger made engine
Is your foot to the floor while you were counting down? If so, not to piss you off or anything, but you might want to check the VANOS.. And I know the Evo has the S52B32 motor, the REAL one, not the US version, so it has double VANOS, but I'd still look at it man... It should be accelerating quicker then that. That is IF your foot is to the floor.
I never got outrun by any subaru sti, an evo 8, my mates tuned evo 6, an E46 m3 & a newish porche 911 on the twisty stuff in my standard Estoril blue E36 Evo coupe - if the E36 is slow then i must be one hell of a driver !!!
Then again - i've sat in with a rally driver & know that i'm not ...
peak torque is at 3250rpm approx on spec however thats only on the gear your in
1st gear any rmp has greater pulling power than 2nd at any rpm, likewise 2nd has greater pulling power at any rpm than 3rd - conslusion for max pull take 1,2 and 3rd gears to redline for max accerlation.
another example - if youre in 3rd gear (which goes to 100mph) and youre doing 40 - drop it to 2nd cos theres far more pulling power and torque to the whels in the remaining rpm in 2nd - clear as mud? good
Actually you are not 100% correct on that. I agree with you that due to the nature of gears, acting as a toque multiplier, a lower gear like 1st will increase engine torque available at the wheels, beyond what 3rd would for example. However it is not quite as clear cut as that.
Engines do not produce linear torque curves, and torque drops off towards the higher rpm's, so after a certain rpm in any gear (normally in the region of 5/6ths redline).
A fairly simple Excel spreadsheet, with the right knowledge and formulas, easily attainable from the internet or reference books will allow you to produce tractive force curves, pinpointing the exact rpm at which you should shift in every gear your car has.
Its a very interesting topic, well worth a really good read into, and one which there is far more than meets the eye.
the reason y it took long enough to accelerate, is basicly the peak wasnt used properly, i get my bmw 318is to go faster than that, but m3 evo's are a 0-60 in from 4.6 seconds if used proper to the same in 5.5 seconds, dont base a car from a video you see online
very true, it's all about the ratio of each gear, once you find the perfect peak before the power line decreases, then you will get the best acceleration out of the car
@16VCoupe u misinterpreted what i said, in my comment i didn't say anything about the 318 is doing 0-60 at anything i said, that it looks faster than that,, making a point, he wasnt accelerating anywhere near what it could
@16VCoupe it's not faster than an m3, my comment never said that at all, m3 is my favourite car, the best i can say when it comes to the 318 is, is that i can get it to accelerate faster than it's estimated 0-60 time with fast gear change, the only way the 318 is would beat an m3 is if the driver of the m3 couldnt drive for shit. now do you get what i'm saying
Huh?? Is this SMG? The cluster for manual!!

@piersparfitt
There is a point that the next higher gear at the same road speed will be producing more 'power', which is what you seem to be infatuated by.
Running to the redline in every gear is actually more often than not detrimental to optimum acceleration.
