  • This is why you need to carry a rapier.

  • @nesnejls This is why you need to keep your guns in a gun safe, so some whore doesn't water down your charges, lol.

  • this is as it should be. atched the late man's band last year. My first. very god taa.!x

  • Far superior version of Whiskey in the Jar to anything being done by the heavy metal crowd.

  • some voice he has :)

  • This man could sing the telephone directory and make it sound astonishing. The one and only Luke Kelly.

  • Happy St. Paddy's Day!

    GROW UP

  • @MrFireplace79 cop on

  • It's St Pat's day here in OZ and what better to listen to Luke and the other gentlemen of one of the best bands to sing the songs we love so much!

Long live his memory as his voice was (and still is) something that stirs the soul! The only song I enjoy more is Black Velvet Band as it ties our two countries together in history - Van Diemans Land (aka Tasmania) - a fearful place for a young Irish convict is ever there was one!

  • Unreal, just unbelievable... Luke is at his absolute best here, personally this is my favourite of his versions of this song

  • prefiero metallica, pero bueno todos tenemos nuestros gustos ^^

  • luke luke none can compare to ya!! God Bless

  • mayceus.i don't disagree wit u.FUCK YOU BASTARDS WHO DON'T RESPECT THE VOICE OF IRELAND THAT IS LUKE KELLY

  • he is very good!

  • Ah, so THESE are the correct words - Bit different from Phil's and a fabulously different version.

  • I've heard dozens of different versions of Whiskey in the Jar. They are all great in their interpretations of this masterpiece. But, to bicker whose version is better or sucks is lame. Enjoy and appreciate the artistic nuances of each version. Bottom line, it's still the same song.

  • @RivotRag Absolutely! They are all good in their own right, because the song itself is a great tune.

  • Thirteen people don't respect real music.

  • great song, great voice, god love the lot of em

  • Good to hear, sing the Irish honest, simple, bold character, and thick Irish Whiskey inspire more enthusiasm for life, I like it!

  • A very classic good song

  • to any one that does not like this song or luke all i can say to you is Póg mo thóin!

  • @dawala1000 erin go bragh!

  • great song A lesson to be learned here about trusting women. They are apt to water your charges at any time. watch out!

  • @tomtone1 Bollox!

  • @kellyoneill bollix!

  • @tomtone1 Ain't that the truth. =P

  • @tomtone1

According to some, women are the Devil incarnate. I can't say I disagree.

  • @tomtone1 that they will, but wouldnt have the aul Cailini any other way would we? :)

  • @tomtone1

Don't you just hate it when that happens! Ruins your whole day.

  • @tomtone1 Indeed. If you drink, travel a lot and generally ignore the girl and think a pretty penny is going to fix it, well... you really *should* watch your charges. ;)

  • fELLA

  • beautiful music

  • great song

  • luke kelly was truly a legend

  • What album is this from???

  • metallica what a load of shit

  • @mullingartwo fuck off dont be so close minded just cos it aint your thing

  • @coxonroxon hey dublin dick head 16 and know fuck all. metallica are the biggest pile of shit band that has ever walked the earth . now of to bed its passed your bed time

  • @mullingartwo and how much have you made from music?

  • @CrystalSwingLaawd i am not talking about money i am talking about music .so when a band like metallica make a absolutely dreadful remix of a great song that luke kelly and phil lynott did brilliantly do you think they should make money from doing that ? and if money is all you think about ,well thats very sad

  • @mullingartwo wow attacking someone for being young those sound like the words of a bitter old fucker i never said metallica's cover was good its shit but you probably haven't listened to a single one of their other songs have you?

  • @coxonroxon you attacked me first by the way .oh and as for me being bitter not a chance love my life and job, just don't like metallica i like iron maiden ac-dc korn u2 /soul / i do draw the line at country and western so chill out in dublin life is tough enough in ireland at the moment

  • @sheeptamer1 ^this =]

  • rough hair, rough beard, smooth singing.

  • eu curto essa musica até mesmo nesse contexto!

  • There are many days in which I feel "homesick". I'm not Irish, but from the East Coast of Canada living on the West now...the lyrics, rythms, and harmonies of these stories/songs remind me of home, Newfoundland.

  • @bcnewf same applies to me and I'm from Liverpool, think some songs are universally comforting

  • Americanized irish/scott here...... LONG LIVE IRELAND....... DOWN WITH AMERICA..

  • Metallica should stay away from this.

  • @gfyliowner Metallica covered the Thin Lizzy song. (I don't really like Metallica's cover but that's me.) That said, I love this song in most of its forms.

  • ireland great contry

  • This one is waay better then the one by The Dubliners,but,..ok,..you'll hate this, but the one I prefer, and it brought this song into the mainstream so millions more know about it now,..is the Thin Lizzy version, and only if Phil Lynott sings it.I love both of the versions,..this and Thin Lizzy's, I hope others here love Thin Lizzy too.RIP Phil,as well as this wonderful singer.

  • someone gone but not forgotten as it always happens with people that helped make life more bearable.

  • love yeah's

  • his granny was scottish

  • wtf? listen to the metallica version... less funny

  • @buttons355 you're a crab!! this is much better than metallica ones!!

  • Dubliners are the best!

  • there is nothing like irish and mexican music to drink ina pub!! thats what I think, Im mexican and my girlfriend fron Meath ireland heheheh!!! I love irish music loads!! Oh Jaysus!!

  • @jcidelgado2007

Good man... San Patricos all the way.

I'll drink to that one boy.

  • luke kelly takes a shit on metallica

  • @buttons355 are you for real???? i have not only seen metallica doing this,i know they knew the story of it, obviously you dont proddy sap

  • @buttons355

This is the original version. I like Metallica.

But you can't compare. You think it's better, but if we talk about harmony. This just kick the shit out of metallica.

  • bless the irish

  • absolutely beautiful. metallica and thin lizzy do awesome covers as well. but this is the best.

  • Scots are an Irish tribe. I know this, because I'm both, just like this chap. Now shut up and enjoy the music.

  • @MrVivisekt Yep there an Irish tribe called the Scottie.

  • Whack for my daddy-o

    Whack for my daddy-o

    There's whiskey in the jar-o

  • The Voice of Ireland

  • born to sing rest in peace luke

  • Putain, ces Irlandais savent faire de la musique ! Vive l'Irlande !

(Whore, these irish guys know how to play music ! Vive l'Irlande !)

  • luke was a pure genius and he had the voice to back that genius up. the very mention of metallica on a Luke Kelly post makes me sick.

  • metallica was great when i was young and really stupid like most kids from usa, in the 80's and 90's...we didnt even know about anything except drugs rock and sex.those of use who survived are moved by a different sound all together one ,more honest more real

and a hell of a lot more talent, who cares about a fan base of morons anyway. So glad i discovered lule and the dubliners even if a bit late

  • Could anyone else make words sound so nice? Not likely I would say!

  • this one is actually make me happy! metallica's version i only like wen i want to listen with some electric guitar in it.

  • just brilliant. best version ever

  • So many versions of this tune, none compare to this right here.

  • @5had0wL1nk look this man was a genius, the best voice I've heard there's no need for this kind of talk

  • @5had0wL1nk I literally have been going on youtube since they started and never saw fit to create an account until I saw you talking shit about luke kelly. Metallica is a pile of shit, cliff burton is the only one who ever should have walked away from that crash alive, and just in general fuck you for thinking metallica has any right to even think about covering whiskey in the jar. It was a pathetic cover on their part. Pathetic

  • @5had0wL1nk so were you born retarded or did you take a lot of drugs at metallica.

  • @5had0wL1nk he dare it cuz it's true

  • @5had0wL1nk ur an idiot

  • @brennosvsrome1 thanx... fuk u to buddy

  • Too bad I first heard the Metallica version.... This is like 10000 times better.

  • @MacedonCollowrath @MacedonCollowrath My friend, the Dubs are 10000 better when they play a song, especially with Luke, than any other version of the song (except when it's Ewan the Greit).

  • He's so red xD cool

  • @kellyoneill same thing

  • @kellyoneill what does it matter scots n irish are the same folk anyway, we understand each other and also share the evil experiences and attempts of english domination, thats what makes us who we are and puts the sound n taste in oor culture.

  • @kellyoneill what does it matter he was a legand. plus scots n irish are the same folk anyway, we come fi the same backgrounds we understand each other and also share the evil experiences and attempts of english domination, thats what makes us who we are and puts the sound n taste in oor culture.

  • @hissphillips WRONG. Pure Irish

  • @hissphillips does he sound scottish to you? no hes a pure dub

  • @hissphillips from Sherrif st. here in Dublin... sorry

  • @hissphillips from dublin my friend and damn proud of it, he was

  • @hissphillips no he wasnt u idiot.

  • @hissphillips ahhh come on! seriously?

  • @hissphillips Luke was born in Lattimore Cottages, bout a mile from O'Connell Street. I don't see how that would make him a Scottish man. He was close, I spose, with his nan, a McDonald, but that can only mean so much.

  • @hissphillips Sorry - |I was abviouselly wrong about Luke. I only hope that he will not held it against me......(makig him Scottish). Regards Anna

  • Brilliant. I look just like L.K, but with straight hair. Not a 'fro. Got no beard either. Actually, nah I'm nothing like him

  • The only thing I better than a single malt is guiness in a jar......try alternating them it makes life more pleasant. The last time I this was in Skibereen and I ended up as lead singer with the local band.

    Sinbadog

  • Ffs are u stupid this is not by the Dubliners unless they're 350+ years old! This song is an Irish folk song that dates back to 1650! So they're all fucking covers. Therefore It's all down preference in the delivery of the song. Not this bollocks about ohhh this is the original so it's better cos none of the recordings that are on YouTube are originals.

  • Gone yourself Lukey Boy

  • I agree with irishgeal 1 and ramrod63 - what a man - wonderful. Irish tunes at their best!! mapujaB

  • hard to beat this treat

  • @wladosu

That was such a bad version.... they killed the song in my opinion

  • The very best version of this song is by the singing duo, The Belfast Cowboys, from Western, Mass. It's on the CD, A Irish Blessing.

  • hell yea' metallica !!! :)

  • hell no not metallica

this is by the dubliners then a bunch of people covered it like thin lizzy and metallica

  • @chrissept21 :)

  • Turris Fortis Mihi Deus

    (Kelley clan mottoe)

  • It's too bad Luke,Ronnie and the rest of the Dubs never hooked up with Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead....-there are a few youtubes of the Dead doing this song

  • kanker jeroen =/

  • God save Ireland

  • re Sixalienasa quote, it's not how long you live but how you live. Whether whiskey killed Luke or not, he contributed more in his short life than most of us will, even if we live to be 100.

  • He was taken too early, but what a measure of a man he was.God rest his soul.

  • LOVE IT IN KANSAS CITY MISSOURI!! thank you Ireland and thank you Luke Kelly!

  • Never thought much of folk music untill I discovered Luke :)

  • Ah, whiskey. What a double-sided coin -.-

    We miss yah, Luke!

  • RIP Luke

  • Love whiskey, love Kelly, but both makes you cry.

  • Without doubt the best version of this great song ever, but you can never expect anything less from the great Luke Kelly the likes who will never be seen again more's the pity

  • There's a great version by Sullivan's Gypsies--possibly better....

  • I'm sorry jannyrcobs no offence but for me Luke's version wins hands down though Sullivan's Gypsies version is one of the better versions of this song

  • @mstorar1 Whiskey never makes anybody cry, which is why there are no tears in Heaven ;)

  • @EvilIrishNinjaPirate

    only tears of joy.

  • There are six verses to this song. Now, you can add or subtract verses if you wish, as long as the guinness does not run out! :)

  • what do you mean 'both verses' XD there are several versus. Performance is pretty good though :D Not like much of the other rubbish versions.

  • kings of leon wrote a song called mollys chambers inspired by the thin lizzy version of this song .......just tought id share that.....

  • Meticalla ruined this song

  • Couldn't agree more

  • Yeah, they did a pretty shocking version of it. But in their defence it was more of a salute to Thin Lizzy and they didn't take themselves to seriously when they did it. They printed a review of it in their own sleeve note that said "Metallica attempt folk rock with all the skill of a one-legged man in an arse-kicking contest".

The Pogues & the Dubliners do a pretty lacklustre duet of this song as well.

  • You are absoultely right

  • i love the lyrics of this one.. just imaginin some tough as nails highwayman a few hundred years ago..brilliant..

  • yep!! would just eat ya:)

  • "...but I take delight in the juice of the barley, and courting pretty fair maids in the morning bright and early..."

    yes sir!

  • Love irish folk songs. Cant get much better

  • One more for da road & let da angels sing !

  • take comfort in the fact that this great mans music will echo through eterity

  • it is an old folk song. so i think there was no artist how wrote it and made some money with it xD

  • i wonder who done the original version of this song, ive heard so many diff ones

  • According to wikipedia, the original version was probably made around 1650, so my guess is that the one who sang it isn't very well known today.

  • according to some younger lads i know it's Metallica,, seriously!

  • The y did a respectable version, but in the context of folk songs it was recent :)

  • Brent Hinds lol...kick ass!!!

  • I am for N.W.Indiana and happy for the inter net that I found out about LUKE KELLY what a great Irish man that rocks.

  • What part 'o NW Indiana? I'm from Greenfield

  • You said it.he's a great auld singer.

  • @ramrod63 jayus thats deadly man
