I have to agree with most comment here. The guys is obvious a moron for the following reason.
1. Black sea bass is not legal to keep. Endanger or not (let's not get political here), it is the fisherman's responsibility to know the law.
2. Try to pull the hook out of the fish when he intend to release to the fish
3. After dragging the fish all the way to the beach and man handle the fish, he decided to jump into the water and actually hope the fish would survive.
Yes as the video clearly shows, they did not catch the fish they found it floating around, thats why they had to spend 10 minutes removing a large fishing hook from its mouth after their boat drug it to shore. lol Their punishment should be to have a huge hook shoved through their mouthes and drug around the streets.
the REASON the guy will face a fine or jail time is because thatr fish is considered endangered by the DFG. fuckin idiot should have kept the fish in the water and and cut the line close to the hook, fish would have probably lived.
oh my fuckin god, this guy is fuckin stupid, not only for the fact that he took it out of water, but just cut the dam leader as close to the hook as you can and let it go, fuckin idiots.
They shouldn't go to jail because they tried to get the hook out and they tried to get him into the water .. but its not his fault he probably wasn't trying to catch the fish thats size
okay so what that fish is is a grouper. they are illegal to catch in california if your not in the correct areas and thats probally a 500 pounder byt what that is is a grouper.
The guy shouldnt get jail time. Because this 1 bass fish wont hinder the repopulation efforts . But he should get a $1500 fine for bringing it onto land. Which in my mind constitutes a violation to catch and release. Which is to save the fish from death. Then again, what should we expect of pier fishermen. I dont expect much, because all the ones ive seen over the years are hacks.
He caught it off the pier.. Why would this guy get a fine for catching a fish off a public pier? A fish of this size, there is no way he gonna be able to pull that thing up on the pier.. He would have no choice but swim out and pull it up on land..
U know when i was 12 years old in 1982 i even knew that catching black sea bass was against the law. But as person who has caught tons of tuna, yellowtail etc along the coast. Bringing up a sea bass onto the sandy shore and working to get the hook out like a noob hack was a guarantee for this thing to have died. The boater should have took the dikes and cut the line off as close to his mouth as possible and let it go.And if the hook didnt cause to much internal damage it could have lived.Idiots
Stupid noob wannabe fisherman killed an protected/endangered species. Chalk one up for the dumbasses. What's on the itinerary for next week? Shooting bald eagles?
this guy is a retard, he has no brains what so ever.. everyone knows they are protected, I bet he catches garabaldi's too..... he needs a punch in the mouth.....
@tonyrigatony I didnt know a fish like this was an endangered species, I would of eaten it. Not everyone is an experienced fisherman and its wrong to assume that everyone does.
@madgame1000 I'ts just another inexperienced fisherman, That guy has fish tatoos all over him, dont tell me he doesnt know that a black sea bass is protected... I caught one off the san clemente pier it was about 200 pounds i would say, but The difference between me and these knuckleheads is when i saw mine surface i cut the line and let it swim away.. what a concept huh...
@tonyrigatony After watching this video again, The guy even says himself "I think its a black sea bass" LOL. He did release the fish about 1 minute and 30 secs after taking the hook out though, but it died =/. I dont know enough about fishing to tell whether he did something wrong when taking out the hook, is it safe to just cut the line like that and leave the hook in the fish? or is it best to take it out before releasing the fish?
@madgame1000 If you are releasing a fish, first, you don't play it until it is exhausted. You don't take it out of the water if you can help it. And you absolutely don't drag a large fish like this out onto the sand. The hooks will often rust out if you just cut the line. Depends on the type of hook. Looks like they tossed a treble hook down its throat. They are just complete bozos.
@madgame1000 Actually, it is RIGHT to assume that a fisherman knows what species is endangered or not in season. It is everyone's responsibility to know what species have restrictions on them BEFORE you go hunting or fishing. It's not an excuse that you you "didn't know" and it won't keep you from getting a fine either. The fishing regs have all the information you need. Most fishermen know this. You can't just go out and kill things and not know what you are killing.
You idiots, obviously you have never caught a fish that big. The guy did his best to get the hook out and let it go he was just too late and considering that species of fish is rarely every caught on a pier. Its not like he was looking to catch a giant sea bass. His rigging show he was going for shark. DFG will probably charge him but he will never get convicted or fined.
@pcbutts1 oh yes he will and is. They are looking at up to 6 months in jail. If you are gonna fish you need to know the regulations. You can not kill a endangered species. You can pick up a regulations book for free at just about any tackle shop or sporting good store. It's best if you get one if you plan on doing any sort of fishing. I hope this guy gets the crap end of the stick for killing some awesome fish.
Fuck this fish! there are innocent children around the world being burned alive and murdured by modern day "witch hunters". watch this and tell me if you care about some ignorant fisherman. youtube.com/watch?v=mZVVbGEOoCM
@madgame1000 yeah, so what are you doing about it but shrieking at other people that they shouldn't care about one of our local endangered species? You can care about more than one thing you know, but you'd rather scream about something we can't do anything about anyway.
@scrubjay93 98% of species that EVER existed are now extinct, Its a part of life, get over it. Its the natural cycle of life. where are you getting words like shrieking and screaming from? Im not typing in all caps. none the less, Its good to know my words made such an impact on you because this is a serious matter. There is always something we can do to help another human being, step one is raising awareness and bringing the issues in the face of the people so things like this arent ignored.
@scrubjay93 I am raising awareness and sending letters to local media outlets to help bring these atrocities into public sight so that hopefully, enough people display their disgust with whats going on so that the individuals with the proper authority will get the message and begin to take the steps necessary to end the senseless violence that is going on in Nigeria. Its a long shot but I believe that its better to at least try than give up without a fight
@madgame1000 What does this have to do with and endangered fish? As a fisheries biologist, I care about this. I care about a great deal of things and do what I can. The "98% of species are extinct" response is bullshit propaganda to rationalize destroying our planet. I think that's great you are trying to help with what is going on in Nigeria, really I do! But there are thousands of atrocities going on everywhere and we each have our special interests and talents to apply.
these guys are fucken retarted first of all u dont pull the fish on the sand but instead leave it in the water and take out the hook and dont pull on the line if the hook is in the belly these fishermen probaly ripped the belly or some intestin in the fish probaly leading to the deathh u dont reach in the fishes mouth to find the hook in the belly but instead cut the line as low as possible & maybe the fish wouldnt have died u fucken dumbass every fishermen knows that if you want to release it!!
OCDA filed charges against the fisherman AND the boater.
I fish these waters all the time and am aware what is legal and what is not. It is the biggest part of resource management. Ignorance is no excuse. Helluva thing to teach those kids on the boat.
These guys think they are famous but guess what you guys are going to Jail! Every saltwater angler knows what this type of fish is! BlackSeabass are endangered and guess what you guys are going to jail! Throw them in jail and have them read about the blackSeabass and why they are endangered! Oh yeah and how long it takes them to grow that big! These guys are dumbasses!
I can't believe what is going on in this video. I am an avid angler and if you are intending to release a fish, you DON'T play it to exhaustion and you DON'T take it out of the water and you DEFINITELY DON'T gaffe it in the mouth with a boat anchor.
This video, which has been forwarded to the OC DA's office, clearly shows the angler chose to possess the fish by taking pictures with it. Nothing incidental there. If the angler and his website think dragging the fish up on the beach and out of the water to remove the various hooks in it's mouth were "attempts to revive it"they're both crazy.Thats like holding a drowning man underwater to give mouth to mouth. He'll probably get a fine and a slap on the wrist An endangered fish is dead for an 8x10
Jeezuzz H Christ, people, take a pill! I don't eat fish, so if I catch a freakin' anchovy, I toss it back, but are you people as vehement about what you'd do to a child molester, or gang member? Grow some perspective!
if youre going to go out fishing make sure you know what kind of fish you're reeling in, idiot. & if you're going to release the fish you dont put him on the beach & stab it. stupid
