  • Thats Storebælts bridge in denmark

  • That is Copenhagen

  • I guess the crew knows how close the clearance is...so they tell all the passengers to get on deck to witness this...sort of one of the "activities" on the cruise.

  • You can stick a ruler under that.

  • I like the horn.

  • Just to give people a low down on this video.

This ship passed under the Storebelts bridge this one time only. It had to be constructed with retractable chimneys, in order for it to fit under here. Further more, the ship went full throttle, because a "suction" effect is created when a ship sails at its maximum speed. It was low tide, giving extra space. 1ft might be a bit exaggerated but it was a very tight squeeze!

  • From that angle one cannot judge clearence but nothing like 1 foot.. more like 25 ft no prtoblem at all!

  • bridge is tooo higher height than this ship

  • The "Great Belt bridge" in Denmarks actually constraints the size of the ships going into the Baltic Sea. So the biggest cruiseships barely make it through.

  • If they are bigger they can always go thru Öresund.

  • a foot is ridiclous. They must go under that bridge all the time and have it down to a science. Most likely used the squat affect.

  • haha nice

  • how was this close? The ship made it through easily...

  • Well, during high tides the ship can't make it under the bridge. The captain said we were clearing the bridge by a foot and from the top deck that's what it looked like.

  • Hmm... What ship?

  • Jewel of the Seas

  • Plenty of room

  • skillfull drive. air draft was no problem i believed. first time i read the comment " they increase their speed to benefit from the squat effect". clever and smart

  • The cruise ships go under the Great Belt bridge when there is low tide, and they also increase their speed to benefit from the squat effect.

  • yep in denmark big cruiser ship nearly hit great belt bridge. top 240 meter over water road 70 meter over water.. alot :P nice vid
