  • OMG! It must've been 15 years since I've played this as a kid but that first area at 0:57 I recognized instantly! :')

  • thank you! i was looking for over a year to find this game!

  • i have a crappy computer for 2011 but back in 1995 it would of been one of the best

  • LOL wtf i played this game with 2 fps for 2 years and i thought this was the greatest game ever! I thought it was normal!!

  • take the microphone out of your mouth!

  • hoooly shit i totally forgot about this game! so fun

  • NOSTALGIA BOMB

  • Holy shit totally forgot about this game. Serious nostalgia

  • Wadsworth constant somewhat applies.

  • I used to fucking love this game.

  • Oh god, the nostalgia.

  • Haha, this was on a computer at our school..

  • I used to LOVE to throw walls up to box the blue team hovercrafts. What was fun was that they would start out very neutral, but the more you messed with them, the madder and more aggressive they would get. They'd bump you harder and harder. One time one of them bumped me right through the wall. I was stuck outside the game, looking at the back side of the wall! I eventually got out of there though. The way they reacted to your aggressiveness made it more fun.

  • My old computer broke that made me sad

  • I had microsoft 95 that game is cool

  • This game was awesome when I was a child (2000-2004), I'm downloading this. And I believe I played it with a Windows 95, 98, or XP operating system.

  • NOSTAAAALGIIIIAAA

  • This is the game I used to play in high school during classes we got the laptops.

  • there was also a shooting plane game(in space) DOES ANYONE REMEMBER-PLEASE LET ME KNOW!HIT ME UP!IT CAME WITH WINDOWS 95

  • I played this to death on our first pc. It was amazing!

  • Windows 95 and 98 this game was on & it was amazing but where to download this game?

  • GAH! MIC VOLUME! TURN THAT SHIT DOWN

  • loved this game. loved the commentary.

  • it was my favorite game that was in the games folder. great and quality back then ! loved it

  • First game for Direct X, and XBox has its origins in Microsoft's Direct X...

so I'm curious about why this game isn't available from Live Arcade. Or maybe a modern version would be available!

  • i remember this!!!! i played it when i was a kid

  • Wow, I remember that game. Flashback in my head.

  • The noises in this game used to scare me so I never played it.

  • MIcrosoft remake this and put this on XBLA! I would buy it.

  • Does Hover use DirectX? I thought Hover was part of the very last generation of "Games for Microsoft Windows" to use plain old GDI, along with Fury3.

  • This made me laugh so much when I read the title. I totally forgot about this game! Thanks for uploading.

  • btw thank you for this flashback...is it free from microsoft? or do they charge for it now?

  • shut up and play it....i've been trying to find this game and the name for the longest time and the anticipation is KILLING ME!! :)

  • I played this game so much, I would dream about it at night. Except in the dreams, there are more than 3 level designs and sometimes the flags floated in the air. It was pretty cool. Gosh, I wish they would make a HOVER! 2010. I'd bet it be as awesome as my dream. lol! Especially with all the technology we didn't have 15 years ago.

  • "We have detected that you are not running on 256 color mode." Shut up. Most computers nowadays can run more then 256 colors.

  • 2:35 "Oh crap, this damn thing's hard enough to control and now you made it FASTER!?"

Only really applies if you're crazy and play with the controls set to "difficult", mind. Otherwise, yeah, you own the level.

  • Seeing this video brings back an instant fkashback to Christmas of 1995, when I got my first computer, a Gateway 200 Win95 PC. I checked out Hover when I discovered it, but it wasn't until early 96 I got into playing it, with my then-new joystick. At the time, I thought it was amazing. I used to play it til it went up to 6 flags, then quit when I had enough. I just downloaded it, and I still enjoy playing it. I did notice there was no music, so thanks for pointing out how to get the music on.

  • good review! but - you make it look way too easy... when i was little, i had a hard time finishing this

  • I played this as a kid! I loved it!

  • omg its hover :D first game i ever played when my parents bought a pc. I was SO excited when i found this on the win95 cd. Nostalgia inc!

  • I had a crappy computer in 95 :(

  • Best game ever.

  • How to download this game???

  • still looks smooth !

  • I never once played this game with music, but it was still amazing nonetheless.

  • wow hover scary game but I truly love it :)

  • OMG thank you for making this, hardcore nostalgia from when I was a youg'un.

    Well done sir, well done.

  • ahhh, i remember this game when i was young. I'm going to download it :)

  • I loved this game when I was a kid, but I could never beat the third level because I couldn't figure out how to jump. LOL

  • @potatomasher18

To jump you have to collect a couple of the green lights and then taking a running start and hit the jump key, I think. I was disappointed he didn't demonstrate jumping up to the upper level.

  • I know this is just a glorified 3D demo, but I think Microsoft should release this on the XBOX Live Arcade as well, perhaps they could add more depth to the game and up it a lot by adding more features.

  • omgomg BALLIN!!! first video game i ever played. i didnt like it at first, only playing minutes at a time but it grew on me and i eventually played for hours at a time till i beat it!! i remember how much more i loved the game when i FIGURED OUT YOU COULD JUMP LOL

i can still reproduce the level 1 music in my head

  • hehe, our first real family PC came with win95 and I discovered that game on the CD, and from that we played it many many hours, even my mother liked it ^^

  • this was amazing

  • How To Download Game?

  • GOOD TIMES GOOD TIMES

  • legendary the win95 music vids!!! =)

  • I found this on an old win95 bootleg. Back in 2007, I played this for hours listening to 80's rock. I also discovered the music bug as well. Cool game for 1995.

  • Man I remember this game. I also remember some old tank game I forgot the name of, it was amazing.

  • Don't know if this is it but "Scorched Earth" was a tank game I used to play.

  • Great review and wow, memories.

  • This was on my first computer, this brings back memories, especially on level three, where I could never finish because I didn't know how to jump xD

I had the whole levels memorized back then, but I lost it when something happened to my old computer and I had to reformat it. Made me really sad when I lost it as a kid D:

  • me and my friends used to play this game all the time in elementery school.

  • Oh my goodness, I remember this game since I was 6. Now I'm turning15, brings back memories. Does anyone have the download site, and also, wasn't it a capture the flag game? I think I had the demo.

  • such a good game, i still play it. Does anyone know what the outerspace game was???

  • The outer space game by Microsoft you're thinking of is most likely Fury3. It came out the same year as Windows 95 and Hover! did (1995.)

  • @mpn1990 no no dude, he's thinking of that demo disk in the space station, "Games for Microsoft 95" or whatever

  • @shorterthanu52 Or maybe youre thinking about descent

  • @shorterthanu52 its called hellbender

  • @shorterthanu52 Deadly Tide i think

  • @shorterthanu52 Hellbender

  • i remember playing this all the time lol th sound brings me back lol

  • I nostalgia'd everywhere.

  • This game is better than any game windows ever produced. Do you remember a game which was a toy shop with an old man and you clicked on different objects and entered different stories and games? Was it the Greatest Toy Shop on Earth?

  • Hover would be awesome in DirectX 10.

  • I meant DX11, which I didn't know was released. I hope MS makes a sequel.

  • hover da shit hoe

  • I remember playing this on my dad's old win95 laptop and homebuilt desktop, ahhh, the memories :' )

  • oh I TOTALLY missed this game

  • holy shit! i rememmber thiss!!

  • @crimsoneternity Woah broah... Hi, I'm Carmine Eternity

Crimson and Carmine are basically the same colour

  • @TheCarmineEternity strange lol. but cool :)

  • i remember this game

  • I LOVED THIS GAME

  • i remember playing this as a little kid with mny cousin great game

  • old school

  • this game was the best back in 1995

  • I spent hours playing this when I was supposed to be doing my homework..

Hover was the original 420 game.. ;)

That music.. the background sounds.. bzzzzzzzz.. heh..

I think there was a free pinball game that came with win95 too. Maybe I'm wrong. It was a long time ago.

Geez. I remember installing the first version of win95 from 28 floppies .. and thinking it was amazing.

A huge step up from win 3.11 WFWG

Except for Win98 SE2 it's been pretty much downhill for Windows since then. =\

  • To get this game type "download hover game" in Google (minus the quotes). The first hit should be "The HOVER! Game Download Site" hosted on a Stanford University web page.

Make a folder called Hover, download the zip file (6MB) and unzip to the same folder.

(All the unzipped files have to be in the same folder).

Click the hover.exe file to start the game.

  • Where can I get this game?? I have Vista now

  • I miss this game so much!

I used to play it all the time when I was a wee lad!

Can you give me a download link please!

  • Is a Geforce 285 GTX good enough to run this?

  • ¿lograste terminar todos los niveles de HOVER?

  • Los niveles de HOVER no terminan.

  • someone should start a petition to have hover! 2 made for the next windows system.

  • I want the music to this game! lol! this totally takes me back!

  • They should make Hover 2 with DirectX 10! :D

  • Nah, DirectX 9. Some graphics cards arent compatible with DX10. But yeah, it would be really cool!

  • HOVER xD

  • I just finished a grand game of this after being out of the Hover Dome for quite a long time (I had this game from about 6 years old), and the final score was 17,999,500 - lost on level 178, by about one second. That green light was helpful, and I was locked on target, but the craft just wasn't fast enough. :(

I think I now know all there is to know about mastering Hover!

By the way, has anyone ever had a "tie" where you and a drone take the last flags at the same time? I did once.

  • I never had a tie. What happens?

  • You don't get any level bonus...the adder says "0 flags left". :)

I've also lost within a hair of the final flag - it was literally *on* the craft when the drones completed their mission. :(

  • Yeah, I had a tie once too. :p

  • I LOVED this game so much, but my computer used to freeze so I never got past level three. :(

  • haha AWESOME i used to play this all the time... even though it is/was a "throwaway game"! lol!

  • Oh wow, this game brings back so many memories. I remember that I used to play this game all the time.

    Haha, great.

  • This was one game on the computer that I was truly obsessed about. I would play this all the time when I was a kid and hell... it sure brought back some fun memories. :)

  • totally agreed

  • music doesnt work with mine. it says it doesnt know wat program made it

  • MIDI!!!! Cool!

  • Haha, this came with my windows 95. Quite addicting.

  • I had this game and I've been trying to remember it's name. Thank you so much.

  • for some reason, the music doesn't work on mine

  • i remember playing this. i thought you were supposed to destroy enemies. i didn't get how to play this game.

  • I remember this, it reminded me of Doom too. I sucked at it though XD

  • this game was the best.

  • I totally remember this. It was quite an unexpected find.

  • I remember that game. It was fun as hell.

  • lol weird

  • Oho. Very clever to feature this.

The game I miss from the Win95 package is 'Jezzball'. That was an awesome game that should still be with the Windows 'Games' collection.

  • loved this game as a kid :D
