Damn, How long has David Stern been the commish/czar of the NBA? Can anyone say term limits? Also i hadn't been able to find this theme in so long I was beginning to think it was figment of my immagination.
Miss you Golden Throat! We have been blessed in Los Angeles to have the Greatest Announcers in Sports! Chick Hearn is an icon and coined phrases like Slam Dunk and Air Ball! God Bless you Chick in heaven!
great intro I loved that chessy 80's disco laser effects intro ... and Adande is correct many Laker fans turn down Dick and Tommy to listen to Chicknstu ... RIP to the GOAT, Old golden throat. Remember when chick ALSO did UNLV games on KCAL?
the salt palace only held 12000 at the time. so the thomas and mack center was an alternate option for the jazz if they wanted to sell more tickets for bigger games like the lakers. the sonics did the same thing in that era playing in the kingdome.
@cubicleboy I remember watching this game live. Always wondered why they played the game in Vegas that night. What I don't understand is why it was an alternative arena with the distance between SLC and Vegas. That's a huge drive isn't it?
Nothing beats this old school intro for the Laker games on Channel 9. I believed they used this theme during the first part of the 1980's. Before network television took everything over Channel 9 even showed the road games between the Lakers and Celtics during the 1987 NBA Finals. God, I miss those days.....
Back in the 80s, I remember laying in bed late at night up in central Oregon, being able to pick up the Lakers delayed broadcasts out of Bakersfield.. There was nothing like listening to Chick Hearn and this theme music. It was great...
man that bounce pass to SILK man was just sick .....i used to pretend I was SILK and MAGIC was passing that ball to me........of course I was traveling
yeah I would watch the end of he game till the ball drops......their was something about this song and when the ball dropped simusteaneously....crazy I thought I was the only Lakers fan that thought like that
Great stuff, golden throat! Seeing this old Laker broadcast is like seeing an old friend. I miss Chick. Anyone know where you can find copies of him doing Bowling for Dollars?

What was that intro disco music playing in the background @ 1:22, while Chick was speaking, called, and who performed it?

The Jazz use to play about 8-10 home games a year in Vega$ from the early to mid-80's to drum up revenue. This was a Jazz scheduled home game.

Rockets fan here, but Chick Hearn is a legend. Too bad there won't be many more like him.

Did the Jazz play a lot of home games in Vegas? This wasn't a Lakers' home game, was it?
kgthingp 4 years ago
They played there a number of times that season due to renovations at their building.
