  • Stevie and Dennis Davis: CLASSIC!!

  • I hate when audiences clap off time

  • I love when the assistant fix stevie's afro at 1:13 haha

  • There are no wrong parts in a drum solo...only new parts! great rythym

  • shiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeet stevie rockssss

  • Outtasight.

  • Surfer dude driving home with Stevie Wonder in the passenger seat..Says."you wanna impress ME Stevie??" Take the wheel..

  • a drummer walks in to a shop and says " I'd like to buy a guitar" the guy in the shop says " your a drummer aren't you" "yes, says the drummer, how do you know that?" "because this is a butchers shop"

  • A FUCKING LEGEND...

  • All hail Stevie Wonder!!!

  • he always gets back to home, no matter how far out he gets, he's got the down beat

  • Offbeat? It's called THE GROOVE, guys.

  • @Zlotrov i gotta disagree here - i think stevie wonder is great on the drums and great from however much i know of him generally -but groove, i understood, was about locking into a beat, really locking in, so it's got that drive. it's metronome-accurate but with a human feel

  • i've been playing drums for 27 yrs and i have a msg to all those thinking that stevie is off time....you have absolutely no idea what rhythm is or of the technique he possesses , because if you did, you'd know that he's the one on time and that the crowd is the one who's "off beat"..he's the one playing on his own recordings such as superstitious, and higher ground, among others.. so before all you ignorant imbeciles start shooting your mouths off,do your research, and go back to learning drums !

  • @blica1 bass player from holland agree's.

  • @statsonmusic ;)) now, if only most musicians possessed this knowledge, then idiotic comments wouldn't exist on youtube !

  • @blica1 word ;)

  • He ain't off.....he's on time..... its the audience who couldn't keep time

    .... HaHHaaha.

  • @yourdailylaughs at the beginning of the solo he purposely changes both sticks to play with the handles. It's a common method. You have poor attention to detail. No disrespect though...poor attention to detail is quite common too.

  • @TonySilva81 im rite there witchu...

  • He was holding one of the sticks upside down, haha. No direspect though.

  • @YourDailyLaughz Drummers often hold the left hand (if they're right handed) that way to have more power on the snare drum.

  • I dare the person who disliked this to show up!!!!! NOW!!!!!!!

  • what is the name of the song, it says something likes''oh oh''

  • @gmg2012 they were playing Superstition before the drum solo

  • @blakmagik4 - Actually I didn't know Stevie was a "drummer". Not all, but most of my exposure to drummers tend to come from the straight ahead jazz to jazz fusion side of things. So, if he has some fair notoriety to be qualified and coined as a "drummer", I never knew.

  • @sbaiar It seems most of the pianists I know are rather competent on drums. My former Guitarist Is a classically trained pianist and a damn good self-taught drummer as well.

  • @sbaiar On many of his albums from the 70s he plays all instruments.

  • @kevinwbrowning you don't need to be able to see to keep time. rhythm has nothing to do with sight. a blind guy has rhythm

  • Vuk yehhh no dislikes :3

  • 0 likes. HELL YEAHH

  • kinda refreshing to see two drum kits playing different stuff! after seeing the grateful dead and a bunch of other bands that employ two kit drummers to play the same exact beat! (i never got that!)

  • What song is this? or is it just a jam?

  • lol backwards sticks........only Stevie could pull that off

  • @MrKilltastic

Neil Peart plays that way too

but for the most part you're right ;)

  • @MrKilltastic steve gadd does that too and I think it gives some more dynamics to your drum sounds

  • @MrKilltastic umm it gives it a thicker timber.....many people it, especially latin jazz and reggae players since they do a lot of transitions between rim clicks, strikes and then back to hitting the drum head....and then there are just some people that prefer the feel of it(vinnie paul)

  • @MrKilltastic Dave Grohl??

  • No words....only tears !

    A great great man !

  • Stevie Wonder didn't drop the time......the time dropped Stevie Wonder

  • WOW

  • Freakin amazing as always, thou it's hilarious that he's holdning the sticks reversed :P

  • thats feeling the groove

  • With TEETH! Lol

  • who gives a flying fuck if parts of the solo weren't on time. the man is rockin' shit from his soul, son. get into it.

  • What song they were playing before stevie played drums?

  • that was ganster throwing tha sticks at the end...idcare what u thought but that was good drumming for a blind guy...

  • @supathickinLA28 NOPE, that was good drumming....PERIOD. ;-)

  • Most people don't realize that Stevie played all the instruments on most of his early albums ... drums, guitar, bass, keyboards ... everything. An incredibly talented musician. (Brian McKnight is similarly talented, and played all the instruments on his debut album as well).

  • I LOVE Stevie Wonder, but I'm sorry... that was pretty bad. He was obviously having fun, but his time was atrocious. Oh well... keep singin' Stevie... ya got that down!!

  • @sbaiar You don´t do music huh?

  • @Thellbro Like supathickinLA28 said... good drumming for a blind guy. Yes, I "do" music. I'm a professional jazz musician. No decent drummers should be accidentally dropping time... multiple times. It was neat he felt free enough to do that and have some fun, but that's about it... I'll say it again... Stevie SINGS his face off...

  • @sbaiar ...."Good Drumming for a blind guy"??? What in the hell is that suppose to mean...you don't need to see to play drums...drummers don't even look at the drums half the time they are playing...that was more of an insult then a complement and everything you said about YOUR opinion of a 'decent drummer' was bull shit too...but you were right about him singing his face off.

  • @BedRockBrutha ...Wow. Such a viceral response. Did I hit a nerve? I you blind too? Please track with me... I'm not saying drummers NEVER drop time. But I am saying that if you are taking a drum solo, and it's a relatively straight forward one at that, and you happen to be a semi to professional caliber drummer, you shouldn't be blatanly dropping time several times during your solo. Maybe it wasn't his kit, maybe it was a different setup, I don't know... It just wasn't that happening.

  • @sbaiar No I am not blind, but the comment did strike a nerve, and the comment about another musicians improv. to me shows a lack of creativity and imagination, something Stevie Wonder is probably a master at DUE TO his visual imparity, this is not much different then what was said about Charley Parker when musicians couldn't keep up with his constant modulating, they'd just say he 'couldn't play'...everybody's entitled to their opinion, but maybe you should step out the box a little bit.

  • @BedRockBrutha I'm sorry. This has nothing to do with imagination or creativity. It's not "creative" or "imaginative" to DROP TIME. The second half of his solo was entertaining but during the first half, I cringed on several occasions. Look, he's not a drummer... and that's OK.

  • @sbaiar I thought he was playing over the bar line and coming back in on the two. Listen to the claps. But I do like the old black and white drum solo from back in the day better.

  • @sbaiar Actually, he is a drummer. He played drums on all his albums. Check the liner notes, if you have any of them. But he's also BLIND. Think about that a second before criticizing him for 'dropping time'. Lol.

  • @sbaiar not offense but if you're a professional jazz musician shouldn't you be well aware that Stevie Wonder is actually a drummer and has been for a very long time?

  • Does anyone know what song was playing right before he began drumming?

  • What did this genius NOT DO? Simply amazing - what a talent.

  • "I THINK I WANNA PLAY THE DRUMS!"

    Pure awesomeness

  • what would happen if he dropped a drumstick.......

  • That aint drumming. I don't care if your name is Stevie Wonder. He'd be the first to agree. That said, I'm sure he was having fun..

  • He dont looks bad dude! Love you stevie!

  • I think he wanna play the drums

  • i carnt even do that and i can see

  • He have more groove and taste than jordinson I tell you!

  • He was born with sight, but was placed in an incubator as a newborn baby. He lost his sight because the incubator had too much oxygen.

  • i've played 25 years butt end snare stick and can still do a single stroke roll

  • I thought he was gonna start drumming on the brother in the orange cap! Should have put two chicken drum sticks in his hand!

  • did anyone else notice he was hold the stick backwards ha lol

  • @billybob6662 Many drummers hold the sticks that way

  • @billybob6662 you can clearly see the moment when flips them around to 'backwards'... he knows exactly what he's doing, he can play 88 keys better than anyone without his eyes, i think he'd know what drum sticks feel like and so many drummers play them that way because they get more power out of them. fail billybob you FAIL!

  • @billybob6662 I hold mt stikcs that way. Heavier sound.

  • god bless this legend!!!!!!!!!!!WONDER FOREVER!!!!!

  • one of the greatest african american musicians to ever grace this planet!!!!!!!the only other that is as good is him is jimi hendrix!!!!!!!!

  • @mercuryjam85 1st of all Stevie Wonder is the greatest singer/songwriter,arranger,producer,multi-instrumentalist,civil & human rights advocate & humanitarian EVER,no matter what nationality, genre of music, male or female! As much as I love, respecy & acknowledge Jimi Hendrix as the greatest guitarist ever,he ain't even in the same league as Stevie Wonder,NOBODY IS!!

  • Dont watch 3:07 if your high.

  • make it hot stevie

  • was he born blind or was there an accident of some sort?

    sry that i dont kno

  • fuck

  • those bitches need to shut the fuk up..lol sounded horrible .. let stevie do his magic

  • Bless him, he doesn't know the sticks are the wrong way around,lol... He's AMAZING ! =]

  • @yseduction06 oh please he totally knows... how could you say he doesnt? he's a master musician! many many many drummers (blind or not) play with the sticks backwards (for more volume)... sorry, this is the second time ive been compelled to comment on people laughing at the poor blind guy that 'doesnt know' his sticks are backwards. its kind of insulting. i know you mean well, but come on people!

  • more groove that joe jordison!!!!! its not a steve gadd .....but stevie have a notion of drumming!

  • No word for it - except LEGEND!

  • thats friggin incredible.

  • I remember seeing this on TV! It was almost 30 years ago.

    Thanks for uploading.

  • I saw this on TV! And recorded it on a Beta tape but I didn't have a Beta player

so I could not see this performance for long. Thanks for uploading!

  • hey, it was only an observation about his way of playing. I don't play the drums, neither I had no idea why he did it like that. No disrespect for Stevie Wonder ofcourse.

  • @lukinigga I can see you don't play the drums - many great drummer play with the butt of the stick at the top namely, mike portnoy, dave grohl - not my favourite drummers, but still great, it's quite a common thing really

  • nice drum gibberish rap at the beginning

  • @Bodebodango hush child.

  • @mrinnervisionz I hate HUSH!

  • stevie wonder is fucking awesome

  • kind of a latin feel at 2:58, he was playing clave on the snare. this is awesome though, I can't figure out where the hell all the drums are in a kit and I've got both eyes to see with. this guy could bust the chops of some of the best drummers even without his eyes. imagine if stevie wonder woke up one day and wasn't blind. he'd not only sell some of the best records of all time, he'd also put everyone in the business on the streets.

  • The best western musician of all time?

  • He holds the sticks upside down

  • @lukinigga

If you were a drummer you'd know that a lot of drummers do that to get a bigger sound.

  • @lukinigga No one told him! Cause drum sticks usually have all the meat on one end and the little bone on the other!

  • como hace para tirar el palo a la primera fila?

  • that bit at the end of superstition when he's being led to the drum kit and before he starts his solo is sooo groovy!!!!! I love how stevie and the rodie wallk with the beat! Epic! The drum solo is great too!

  • Just wonderful and musical.

  • This is amazing.

And the roadie adjusting his 'fro is hilarious.

  • There's nothing wrong with Stevie's playing, those drums are horribly miced.

  • What's with the three R's?

  • whats up with you not getting laid

  • @afearofbuttons Rakimoto roves rain *japanese accent*

  • for he's music i think

  • he is a WONDER no fucking doubt!!!!

  • He goes off time a lot, but it is still badass.

  • @lunaticfringe0

It's called speeding up the rythym. not going off time. If that was the case then Superstition, Higher Ground, Living For the City, and about 90% of his songs would be "off time because he played drums on ALL of his 70's and 80's stuff.

  • When in the studio, musicians often use this thing called a metronome, which provides a steady click track to which they can play and not go off time. When playing live, most do not use this, thusly some things are sped up or slowed down.

(The proper spelling is "rhythm" by the way.)

  • wow i am speechless...this is a amazing

  • OMG! he's not even looking at the drums!

  • lol are you being a dick or are you just retarted?

  • retarted. pmsl.

  • rude leave stevie alone hes my inspiration n im sure a lot of pple would say the same thing to you

  • yeah....he's blind...

  • If you haven't heard the song, "Too High" off Innervisions has good drums played by him.

  • i like how every1 in the audience is clapping off-beat lol.

  • you guys are so dumb. Always hating yo man up. He is so talented and all you can do is joke. all you such class acts.

  • well...this is fuckin' impressive for a blind guy O.o

  • this is awesome!!!!

  • he aint no drummer, because, he does not want to.

  • as a lifelong drummer myself, i respectfully must disagree with your statement

  • wow! I've never seen that he plays drumming before??? he deserve gets respect !

  • lol@ Japanese crowd pan 3:15

  • Why 'lol'?

  • >_> That's the true meaning of drumming blindfolded

  • The Best, El Mejor, IL MIgliore!!!!!!

  • WOW I AM SPEECHLESS

  • so they don't break, he drums WAY hard

  • its mostly because he wants a fatter sound...GOSH

  • Because of a disorder called 'blindness', you jerk.

  • I have never read about him, but I did not know, he playes drums

  • he can play everything. he is amazing

  • @allanseeder Stevie plays piano, organ, synths, harspchord, accordian, harp, drums, percussion instruments, clavinet, bass guitar, guitar. It is said that he can play virtually any instrument!

  • What was it with 80's music videos and stupid special effects?
