Obama won Maine handily, but Susan Collins cremed your guy like I knew he would. Bottom line, you run a hateful campaign against someone people like and you will get voted down in flames.
Listen, I know that I am not playing fair by putting up actual FACTs....I understand that we should all just swallow the spin and move on. Thing is, it is killing Maine, and it is killing our economy and our country.
This has to end. People have to stop listening to the crap that comes out of themedia and start doing their homework.....and dumping the politicians that are not what they pretend to be....
Poor oneagrymainer! I lived in Maine up until two years ago and have been a registered Democrat all my life. Susan Collins is not a blind follower of the Republican party or George Bush. She is a moderate who has voted with the Dem's on many occasions. As for your anger I hope you find a way to get it under control it. May I suggest you consider moving out of Maine since most of what is wrong with Maine's economy can be traced to the Democratic party's 30 plus years of control in Augusta.
You need to actally check the Congressional Record on her voting record, and throw away USA Today and all the spin pubs you're obviously getting your info from. That's what makes me so furious >>> the sheer amount of misinformation and nonsense spewed that allows politicians like Collins to portray themselves as moderates, meanwhile, behind the curtain they are literally nuking the middle class of this country. Read, Check, Verify for YOURSELF.
All non Mainers, please disregard the message below. Most the people of Maine are not naive, blind followers, or the just plain old sheep the Republican party hopes and prays we are. Susan Collins is a REPUBLICAN who has VOTED IN LOCKSTEP to support the Bush Administration's policies over the last several years.....except on a few "throw 'em some crumbs" populist legislation.
The people of Maine are very fortunate to have Susan Collins represent them in the U.S. Senate. She is a moderate who has never been afraid to cross party lines to reach a fair and equitable compromise. As for her opponent Tom Allen he has no clue and has done whatever he has been told to do by the party bosses,
the start of the republican reign of terror, the dollar was 1.25 to the Euro, and oil was at 30 bucks a barrel. we're now at .72 to the euro, and oil is at 126.......unless you are extremely, extremely wealthy, it is just downright stunning that you can defend any republican...much less Collins who has voted fot this massacre of the middle class...every time she had to take a stand......she's been george's girl, straight up.
hey, by the by, how much you paying for gas in your town? how much for milk, bread and eggs? Ever occur to you that it is not OPEC doing the dirty deed, but the fact that we are spending $5000 PER SECOND in Iraq....and our REPUBLICAN LEADER supported BY REPUBLICAN SENATORS are backing this????? And supporting the endless printing of cash to do it? Print $5K per second, and the cash that is out there becomes worth less, and less, and less, and less....and pretty soon gas is $10 bucks a gallon.
What about her stance on the Real ID? Doesn't anyone care about the BILLIONS mainers will have to spend to implement this? Not to mention that it is an infringement on our liberties, and rights to privacy. Maine was the first state to pass legislation to reject the unconstitutional Real ID, and Susan Collins hoped right on with Bush and supported it. Hmmmm... doesn't sound like she supports us when we take a stand.
money that we don't have....but, big smile and a wink, who do we think was going to get the contract to make the real IDs??? A big time Republican donor???? Maybe????? so, you little pissant Mainers had better come up with the cash!
wish you were here too as Susie was just on 207 pumping her "change the mission" suggestion on iraq. I have to admit, her PR people have thought up a great way to to disguise the oil companies using our army to advance their interests......and she's in there pitching her little heart out...but, end of the day? Susie works for Exxon and Bush, not us. that has to change.
Baldacci was a Congressman before he was Governor and not a good one at that, unfunded mandates while I to am against them Angus King did a Terrific job being Governor. Unfunded mandates are not the only reason Baldacci is doing a bad job, he is just an all around terrible Governor. Also I have worked with a Democratic Governor before and don't think they don't have sway that is what a U.S. Representative is for, either Allen isn't doing his job or Baldacci isn't which one?
Tom Allen has always been known for being hateful, the way he treated a 80 year old lady from Mississippi because she dared question his stand on an issue a few years ago was common knowledge. Allen carries himself holding a grudge, now not as bad as Governor Baldacci who I can't figure out how that clown got elected. But hey, Susan Collins has done NOTHING for Maine. Unlike Senator Snowe or Former Senator Cohen who were work horses (snowe still is)
i can't agree with you on Snowe, who has -- until very recently -- voted for George's policies.. Baldacci....you know, you suck states dry, you bury them in unfunded mandates from above, and you still expect the governor to perform miracle. Baldacci is a guy in an impossible position trying to do an impossible job. the problems of the actual people mean nothing to the feds, NOTHING.....and Snowe and Collins support that. Except when it could keep them in office.
oneangrymainer, I agree with you on Susan Collins, and I am no Republican but the Governor has done far worse to hurt Maine than Collins could ever hope to do. That is why I left Maine and moved to Tennessee. The same can be said years ago with a Republican Governor Tennessee had the first time I lived here. I am a HUGE supporter of Former Governor Angus King and Senator Olympia Snowe, I have supported both in thier election bids in 1994. Snowe was my Congresswoman and she helped our district
I love you Republicans coming here and trying to defend old Susie Q. She's voted in lockstep with George for the past six years. Now, we get two, three token votes that might inadvertantly help the average Mainer and Susan is once again a goddess in your eyes. Well.......not so for the average Mainer. We aren't as dumb as you all believe J6P is........we know what Susan is and how badly she has hurt us.
If it wasn't Tom Allen, I would say Susan Collins goes down. But Tom Allen is a hateful political hack. One thing amazes me Angry Mainer, Olympia Snowe might be a lot of things but Partisan hack she isn't. That belongs to the sorry ass Governor Baldaci or however you spell his name. He has no desire to help Maine out, he just wants to help his people out in his party. I'm sorry while I stand with you on Susan Collins. I don't stand with you on olympia Snowe
why do you consider Tom "hateful"? having looked at the guy's record carefully and met/talked with him seeveral times, i find him anything but. If anything, i worry that he might not be hard enough, devious enough, etc., to deal with the republican hacks that populate congress.....
You know, that comment sort of encapsulates everything that is wrong today. There is no intelligent discussion of the situation, the qualifications of our politicians, or the long term implications of their actions. Nope, insulting zingers pass for commentary. While Collins may go down in the next election, Karl Rove has essentially won. He has destroyed our political life utterly.
and just to clarify your comment, so everyone knows EXACTLY the great amendment Susan is co-sponsoring....they want to change mission in Iraq to focus on protecting U.S. personnel and infrastructure, training and equipping Iraqi security forces, border security and counterterrorism. Can you say protect the largest US foreign embassy in the world, and the US oil interests in a country we have essentially invaded and are trying to take over? And that the neocons refuse to give up on?
dont get me started on susan and the war. she's a real profile in courage. six solid years of voting for Bush's programs and now.......we see, when her ass is swinging in the wind, she puts her name on a bill to "alter the mission". if she weren't a lockstep Republican, she'd be out there with Snowe admitting this entire thing is complete catastrophe. Instead, she is working hand in glove with "the boyz" to "alter" the mission cosmetically. so they can keep their forever war....
do some research man, your wrong. Lets talk energy reform, bi partisan bill she authored an important amendment that not only secured additional funding for climate change research, but also guaranteed that many of those funds went to Umaine system schools.
Finally, the idea that Susan works across party lines, is a complete joke. She, like others in her situation, talks a very good game... her ads and marketing in this area are terrific -- and at the end of the day, her votes are predictable, highly partisan, and directly detrimental to the people and interests of Maine. Reality bites hard.....
Business... lets talk BIW, she just secured a multi million dollar contract there to secure jobs for maine workers... Iraq she authored an amendment with a DEMOCRAT that would significantly alter the american mission in Iraq (and before you say that doenst go far enough keep in mind that NO ONE on capital hill is talking about a complete withdrawl.

your one angry mainer and you might be the only one, Collins' approval ratings topped 70% last fall, and her opposition to the immigration reform bill, her moderate stance on Iraq, her support of energy reform and not even to mention the HUGE amount of work that her local offices do on behalf of local citizens.
and geez, i guess those standing room only gatherings for Tom are just vapor people. frankly, i have yet to hear one person defend Susan or any of her actions over the past six years. if anything, i hear more about the countdown until Susan ....and her bud, George, are gone.
As far as supporting Maine business, that, given her support of the insurance and pharmaceutical industries, is a complete joke. Until there are substantial reforms in those areas, there will be no real hope to improve the business climate in Maine or elsewhere. Susan has again, in these areas, voted in lockstep with the Bush agenda to support the "advantages" these industries currently enjoy.
I would disagree vehemently. Susan Collins, and the "marketing" campaign behind her is everything that is wrong with this country now. Here we have a politician consistently supporting and voting directly against the interests of Maine, but the marketing behind her is designed to present her as a "moderate". Forget that it is diametrically opposed to the truth, this is what is now part of the "legend of Susan".
Susan hasnt even started a marketing campaign, all the campaigning is being done by Tom Allen (funded by out of state organizations like moveondotorg), to make her look like one of Jorge Bush's cronies. You know why they are spending so much money making it look that way? Because its not true. They have a monumental task ahead of them if they believe that they can convince the majority of Mainers that Susan Collins is part of the problem on Capitol Hill.
here, your sheer naivete is showing. a campaign is not only a series of ads. its commentary in the newspapers, its appearances on the media...and favorable mention in the national media. Susan's people have been busy bees of late....despite her voting record, she is always described as a moderate. More a function of a lazy media than the truth.
Tom Allen signifies everything thats wrong with this country right now. He has no interest in bi-partisan politics and is running based on the perceived problem of republican leadership in the US.
Wake up Susan Collins is not part of that problem, she is willing to work across party lines (just look at the Iraq war legislation she released last week), she supports ME business and fights for the environment.
She is not the problem, partisan politicians like Tom Allen are the problem.
and last but not least, you got a real problem this time around because there are a lot of us actually watching what Susan does....not what her marketing says......and guess what? we don't care that she "seems" sweet and shares recipes on 207. No...this time, this time.......her voting record is going to be a lot more important than a recipe for blueberry pie.
This campaign is about whats best for the state of Maine. If you watch what susan does you will realize that she is better suited for our state and our nation than Tom Allen. She is a leader, Tom Allen is a bandwagoner.
