I think this is an MG42. The first MG42s had a 1500 RPM rate of fire (This is where they sounded like ripping canvas, and were nicknamed 'Hitler's Zipper'.) Because of cooling troubles and melting bolts, a device was fitted to lower the fire rate to 1200 RPM.
