  • @1:28 I LOVE how he just goes "we're gonna be in the Hudson", more relaxed than me on a Sunday.

  • The pilot was so casual!!! I'd have screamed mayday and self ejected and let the rest crash and go to hell.

  • as a pilot i gotta say...very professional job from all, the pilot, the crew & the ATC Controllers.

  • i would have shat my pants if i were a passenger

  • as well as Sullie, I think those controllers also did one hell of a job!!!!!!!!

  • If you can keep it cool in a situation like this..... you deserve a statue....!

  • SULLYYYYYYYY!!!!

The Chuck Norris of the sky.

  • the actions of this pilot is called "being a professional..." that is having a total understanding of your craft and the circumstances that will influence your decisions executing your craft.

  • I hate adds on YouTube, then I see my own business's add. FML

  • shouldn't the ATC the one that should give them the assistance where to land the safest. i mean.. they lost both trust on both engines.. dont the ATC guy know they could not make the turn??

  • @crumcon he can give assistance however when an emergancy mayday type call is given especially of this severity the pilot is perfectly within his rights to disregard any atc comand and/or faa/caa regulation he deems nessary

  • The Air Traffic Controller sounds like Peter griffen from family guy!

  • i heard one of them say: "oh by the way, planes don't float"

  • @GlitchGang Cute, but I thought it was "the plane is still afloat".

  • my gooooooooooooshhh

this pilot stil was so chilled!

I would have screamed and I dont know what!

    RESPECT!

    REALLY MY BIGGEST RESPECT

  • amazing, cant still believe he saved all those people

  • the ATC service guy couldnt get it...they were goint to the river and that idiot went on landing procedures

  • @Clerence1969 ABOLSUTELY! Denny Fitch too. And Walter Lux

(even though he didn't make it) from 1979 in Chicago. He

put that DC10 down and managed to miss the kids gathered below

the spot where he was heading.

  • Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger deserves all the praise, and recognition, that he has received, and will receive in the future, for his incredible feat of life-saving, piloting skill. I, also, believe that this guy deserves the highest possible award that can be bestowed upon him, for his actions in preventing an horrendous disaster. I feel that it's also worth mentioning the impressive speed, efficiency and professionalism, with which the air traffic controller dealt with the situation!

  • Despite the fact Sully has reached the FAA mandatory retirement age, I would not hesitate to get on an airplane if he were at the controls.

  • well, id like to say this man deserves the balls of steel salute .well done

  • Funny coincidence? Cactus was the callsign of Marine fighters on Guadalcanal after the Navy bailed out and left them on their own on Henderson Field in 1942.

  • This man deserves the retirement our lawmakers get for life. He did more in one minute than most of them do in years

  • This video aint helping me get over my fear of flying .

but if i ever get in a plane ,i like to have him as a pilot .

  • calm cool and calculatedt.. "..(1549) we can't do it..(actual) ok what runway do you want?..(1549)..were gonna be in the Hudson.."

  • A quick dry? haha it needs more than that.

Id prefer that plane doesnt be back up in the sky. I dont feel comfertable with my pilot saying "hey folks, just thought id let you know your in the plane that landed in the hudson river!" haha

  • For Sale:

Airbus A320, needs new engines, along with a few minor repairs. Just washed inside and out.

All serious offers will be considered.

  • @Outlaw1257 lmao

  • i love the arguing and insulting more than the videos....always = )

  • Very good... Now, test it against Darth Vader and TIE fighters... lol just kidding He is a true hero!!!

  • The pilot and crew are heroes but I also appreciate the efficient and quick response the air traffic guys showed. Everyone acted fast and smartly

  • damn that was a smooth landing on the water.

  • this is amazing he most definitely was calm and collected and did not freak out im proud we have awesome people out there like him :) if im on an airplane i want him as a pilot

  • This really is such inspiring audio. Talk about stepping up to the plate. There isn't a hint of fear or panic in his voice, just total concentration.

  • it's not about being able to land on water, it's about making that decision in 15". god bless him.

  • soundlike fabian, To train to land in water, and to land in water, are two totally different things....

    How stupid, can you be???

  • yes of couse, I did not say that he isn´t a hero or something

  • It isnt as easy as it looks faggot.

  • Not with passengers on board they dont!!

  • 1) Your grammar is way off, 2) Pilots do not train to land on the water! The process is called ditching. A commercial airliner is not designed to land on the water. Therefore, there cannot be training for it. Think before speaking you ignoramus!

  • 1) my grammar is equal 2) I mean that they train emergency´s in a Simulator, and I have my PPLA flight license I know whereof I speak, I think i know more about these things as you, so don´t get on my nerves...

  • Is the plane 1529, 39 or 49? Or is there something in ATC that means the call sign changes?

  • that pilot is a true legend he is amazing and should b rewarded with watever he needs

  • Comment removed

  • ive listened to this a number of times, and im in awe every time. that was crazy. the pilot and crew of that plane were absolutely amazing. "great job" doesnt begin to describe it....

  • As Sully has said in his interviews "it was a team effort" these behind the scenes audio tapes, make us aware that many people contributed to the success of the landing and rescue

    GOOD JOB ALL

  • to say miracle takes alot of credit away to all these people involved. All very profesional. Hats off . well done

  • Yo the man ..10 outa 10

  • Great job! It would have been harder on the sea, as the wave cause major problems.

  • holy cow. the pilot and crew deserve medals. i would have crap me pants and nosedived.

  • good job to all of the crew and atcs

  • so apparently they were canadian geese lol obviously we gotta blame canada!

  • haha

  • Watch "MAX K.D. Drive"

  • It is amazing how calm this pilot is in the face of certain death; hats off to him, a hero indeed.

He is from my state, California. Suck on that all you Cali haters. We produce descent and honorable human beings.

  • Ha, I work at McDonald's!! :-D

  • why do people still care about this?

  • i just wanna tell u guys that i'm going to Mcdonald's drive thru right now

  • chicken McNugget it fool

  • wow even the guy that was taking the call was great too.

  • 1. the ATC was calm and collected like they are trained to be, i can sense some tenseness in his voice, he said "uh.." to try and calm himself

    2. the pilot was trying his best, notice hwo it didn't nose dive, it wen on a decent. good work by the pilot.

  • that is amazing precise communications, they handle it all calmly and remarkable fast

  • I give it to you that they certainly did have luck as those types of airliners do tend to go nose first due to the drag the engines produce once they touch the water. The part that gets me from your comment is the fact you call the passengers "American bastards" since that was rude and extremely un-called for.

  • WOOOOOOOW !!

Thats perfect communication ! They were as if they deal with 100's of emergencies each day !!

  • Fuck you UK asshole

  • im gonna be a doc in 1 year; this is how we act in the ER and trauma surg. its pretty sick

  • Wow dude. Wtf is wrong with you. "It didnt nosdive and kill all those American bastards". Way to show your colors. Even if you dont like the country a person is a person. No one deserves to die for no reason.

  • Much props to the pilot on how he handled the situation. It was so amazing hearing how calm he was despite of he stuation. they should do something about those birds being around that area. God is good. have a blessed day!

  • one bird takes out a multi-million dollar airplane out of service. classic.

  • lol wow dude it was CLEARLY said that a FLOCK of BIRDS took out BOTH engines, lol.

  • Look what the guy is doing at 0:35 ! Just pushing some snow off the plane, kinda bored while he's working I guess!

  • Perfect. Awesome Pilot !!!!!!

  • Totally cool! :-)

  • simpsonstewie, you just called a terrifying,ice-in-the-guts,life-or-death maneuver that all pilot's pray never to need to employ, "doing a video game in real life."

YOU are a FUCKING FOOL. Or simply eleven years old.

  • an idiot who plays to much flight simulator :p

  • Man, these guys must be incredibly trained to remain that calm during so dire an emergency. I mean, loss of both engines right after take-off? This must be near worst case scenario. Hat's off to the pilot and the tower for showing us how it's done.

  • I thought those jet engines were designed to tear through birds. I once saw an old video of some testing and the engine was tearing up through some big chunks of hail.

  • I think they can do it in moderation, like one or two birds, but if they hit an entire flock of birds like I think they did, then they have some trouble... not sure though.

  • thats elitism at its best

  • A water ditch is considered one of the hardest maneuvers to perform. It's considered "near impossible" and "practically suicidal" by many seasoned pilots, so the fact that he performed a perfect water ditch is nothing short of incredible.

  • A video game to you? Ok YOU try it.

  • Teterboro airport is so close to the Hudson river, I have no idea why he didn't just landed it there savely instead without risking the lives of so many people. He had enough flight time probably, even on engine failure. This whole story is very weird to hear.

  • Probably because he couldn't be for sure if he would make it there and crashing in the city would be a whole lot worse than dumping it in the water. Most of the airports in NYC and Newark are right next to the river, but the pilots obviously didn't think they could make it to one. Why is that so hard to believe?

  • Sully needs to be awarded a medal, and it should be presented by Wesley Autrey, (NYC's last totally awesome hero-he's the man who jumped in front of the subway to save the man having the seizure) I LOVE NEW YORK!!!! I'm claiming Sully as an honorary New Yorker.

  • Lolol

  • Lane 1 good? Nah, fuck that shit, we're going for the Hudson.

  • man that guy is ice water what a pro

  • What a professional pilot. he is perfect. He kept his cool on the most difficult situation imaginable.

  • pilot definitely deserved to be called a hero...but did anyone else notice that both the pilot and the air traffic controller were referring to the wrong plane? the plane Cactus 1549...the pilot said cactus 1539...and the air traffic controller several times said cactus 1529...interesting...

  • Sully rocks. My hero.

Talk about keeping cool under pressure.

  • Sick!

  • i love how casual the pilot was, "we'll be chillin in the hudson, fuck the airport"

  • Texan=hero.

  • And on the day of Bush's farewell speech... in a hurry to redeem themselves, ain't they?

  • the pilot is a true american hero in every sense of the word. he should get some sort of civilian medal for his fine actions.

  • It's never been done before without casualties.

  • Well I guess that most pilots are bad mathematicians then.

  • easy to say from your desk douche bag

  • If they turned this into a movie, I'm not even sure Chuck Norris is badass enough to play the pilots part

  • this is a great example of team work. all system working correctly and together. So glad no one was killed. What an amazing pilot.

  • Oh this gives me the chills

  • This should be required viewing for anyone working in a high pressure, mission critical job.

It's a perfect example of all involved parties staying calm and working together in a professional manner.

  • Team work... They all get a BIG FAT A-PLUS with a GOLD STAR on their report cards. Cool headed pilot who knew what he was doing. And controllers who were showing their stuff when it comes to "SITUATIONAL AWARENESS"... SNAP SNAP SNAP TOP NOTCH DECISION MAKING!!!

  • its not like anyone died

  • Thanks to a well trained pilot.. And the controllers CLEARING the heck out of every runway in the area to give him room to land if he did make it. I think you're just trying to push someones buttons is all.

  • In case you didn't know. No one has EVER successfully ditched a commercial airliner before. It is the first time in history, and the fact that not one died or suffered serious injuries is a miracle and testament to the pilots skills.

Are You really an idiot or don't watch the news much?

  • Way to completely miss why this story is exciting. They managed to SAVE EVERYONE INVOLVED. I know you're probably the type who's more excited by death tolls, but man - get a clue.

  • Great Pilots very calm, collective.

    New York Controls are AWESOME!

  • A pilot saving 150+ lives isnt special?

  • Comment removed

  • i watched and listened to the video thank you

  • The first ever successful ditching of a commercial airliner. Not to mention the fact it occurred just after takeoff, and with both engines out, so even less time for the pilot to position himself. And everyone survived.

Haven't you been reading/watching the news, it has been everywhere.

  • Masterful execution!

My respects go to the pilot, air traffic controllers and rescue teams.

I feel like I can learn a lot from these 2 minutes of audio...

  • amazing pilot :)

  • Amazing audio recording of all the action that happened on that successful safe ditch in the Hudson River, with everything that happened in those tense 2.5 minutes...

  • the first i heard of this was from fluffeetalks. after watching it on bbc news 24 and reading it all i could think was 'what an amazing pilot', that and 'poor little birdie'. i'm pretty sure i've heard of people dying because of birds in the engines.

  • My hat's off to you, Sully, to our fine air traffic controllers, and to federal officials for releasing this tape (something that needs to happen more often).

This is a perfect example of the power of remaining calm amidst crises. This is a perfect example of the role of the pilot (ship's Captain, etc.) in final executive decision-making. Good form, friend Sully, good form.

  • wow, amazing man =]

  • I'm always shocked at how calm they all are. Talk about nerves of steel .

  • nice respect ↑↑↑

  • The passengers were lucky to have him as pilot that day, that's for sure.:)

  • Dude is Clint Eastwood cool. For real.

  • I was jus watchin this on SKY news man

  • nice stuff

  • What a pilot so cool anc calm this is what a true hero is about. No special gadgets, no super powers no magic, just human and calm to the core. I would love to shake them pilots hands

  • Great job by all! That is man I want flying my plane. ATC did wonderful as well.

  • Christ, thats baaaaad
