Speaking of GI Joe, I honestly think the worst thing about that show is how sanitized it was. There was a standing rule that no one could die or be injured in a fight on the show, which is what led to the ridiculous opening credits with planes and tanks blowing up everywhere, but everyone escaping unscathed by some manner of ejector seat. It had the effect of making warfare look like an exciting holiday.

This is better then the talk show fare and mindless babble; this had a storyline, real history being used as a background and character development.

A lot of 80's shows in general were like that. No one in A-Team or any other shows died either and cars were always crashing/blowing up, etc.

I pine for the 1980's now....Great cartoon, though it was interesting that in a cartoon about WAR nobody dies.

Well that and the guns being "lasers" they were really supposed to be tracer bullets I think, I guess they had to make some concessions.

They pushed things pretty far for a kids' show with some stories though. They referenced a lot of real history and never "wrote down" the material for kids, which were both great things about the show.
