  • I hate the GW NEVER has anything bad to say in their 'reviews'. I need to know the cons too...

  • i have this amp and will say it sounds awesome. just like in the video! good job!

  • Omg what a dude. He's playing a vintage style tube amp with Emg active pickups. Such a shame ... :(

  • acdc tone all the way...i have the cab

  • @sgmarshallboy thank you man! ive been jut waiting for someone nto say that it wuz good for acdc and the like

  • how would this sound through a peavey cabinet?

  • @rockgod1987 i use a custom cabinet that has a speaker from a peavey bandit and it sounds fine to me.

  • Hello my head and bought the same from one day while playing a '3Watt with volume up I saw smoke coming out more and not' work could you tell me please what and have been successful?

  • Pauls' review:139,976. ProGuitars? (which is also awesome by the way) 119,371. Again, Paul RULES!

  • Does anyone know if an effects pedal will work instead of that thing on the top

  • this gear seems great

  • I had this exact amp for a while and used it in a gigging situation. It sounds like crapola by itself if you are playing hard rock, but with an overdrive in front if it and cranked, it sounds fantastic. And to the guy who has his panties in a wad because people are saying it's loud, people are asking that for a reason. It's only 5 watts. And yes, it's quite loud. It's not quite loud enough if your drummer thinks he's Keith Moon, but it has plenty of juice for most practice sessions.

  • can you please use normal humbuckers AND single coils? beucase i for an example have a strat and i want to know how much it will distort and resonable volumes but i cant compare it to figgen electric pickups that are made to be mega distorted.

  • @thenoparkingchannel you will need a distortion pedal with this amp. I have one.

  • i have a question, me and a friend of mine, plays in a band, he's a drummer and I'm playing the rythm guitar (sometimes lead too) but here's my main question, is this little thing loud enough to keep up with the drummer? thanks forward, and sorry for my bad english^^

  • Paul rules!

  • @jharri1 paul rules at g-a d classic acdc but not everybody does the classic three chord songs

  • @Guitarstring187 Just the good ones!

  • does this amp have a clean channeL?

  • run a nice OD, and it delivers on some pretty decent metal.plus metal often uses distortion pedals anyway.so its good there for it too.

  • HI Paul...Thanks for the review, this amp sounds great. I have the Epiphone Valve Jr. and it sounds great as well but it's not giving me the sound I need to play country music (new Country like Brad Paisley, Keith Urban and Rascal Flatts) will the Blackheart get me close to that sound?

Also What Reverb Pedal are you using? It sounds great....

    Ken

  • They're just so boring looking though.

It actually looks like a generic brand cereal box.

It looks cheap and bottom barrel.

  • to be honest this amp didn't sound very good in this video. sounds a lot better in 5 watt mode. im going to get a vht special 6 ultra, its more organic sounding to me.

  • I don't really get the point of this amp... although it sounds good... is it meant for practicing?

  • Dude doesn't mention if it takes pedals well or if it has a headphone jack like the Marshall Class A does.

Otherwise, this sounds like a pretty okay beginner's setup.

  • I love Paul's Review's but was disappointed that he chose EMG's for this one rather then Passive's like some burstbuckers or Duncan's. Actives just don't match the tone that this amp was made for. Still sounds sweet, just my 2 cents :)

  • @joelbuttle thats exactly what i was thinking. needs something like a pearly gates, alnico pro 2 or a 59 to get that proper classic rock sound this amp was designed for. i mean, it was a great review, just he was playing in the style of ac/dc with what is essentially used by the likes of james hetfield and zakk wylde :L

  • Would you say this was better than the Blackstar HT-5H 5 mini stack??

  • This guy sounds like most Americans, gay

  • @TheMetallicaMan666 Plenty of these Americans died to keep you from having to speak German! Show some respect, because you know when your island gets in trouble again you guys will be callin'.

  • Paul proves 2 things with this review: You don't need talent or an in tune guitar to make a living as a musician.

  • @bresan79

Your jealous because no one knows or cares about you! We got Walter Hayton over here!

  • @420ChickenFucker

Jealous of what? I just stated the obvious that his guitar wasn't in tune and that his talent level isn't that high but he manages to make a living at it anyhow. This should serve as an optimistic statement for you to try to do the same thing... have a nice day.

  • @bresan79

More like smart ass statement by another nobody without a musical career.....Have a shitty week

  • @420ChickenFucker

Yeah, you obviously know me and all about my business. Just because I don't post 600 videos on here doesn't mean I don't make a living as a musician. There are many ways to make a living at it. I have an opinion about his playing and the fact he didn't tune his guitar; which would make anyone sound amateur at best. Get over it and get some counseling for your consuming anger.

  • if you want noise just buy a bugera 1960 150 Watts of tube power !

  • I wish this amp had an effect loop...and knobs for Gain and Mastervolume

  • Best demo I've seen with Paul, nice amp too.

  • i dont give a fuck about loudness...i want SOUND.

  • @MrMethadrine There is NO good sound without good loudness :/

  • @PoldIsak have u ever heard the "silent but deadly"?:P

  • @MrMethadrine nope

  • @PoldIsak i just farted...

  • looks like a toy lol

  • Just bought this one, and a Boss ME-70. Cant wait til it comes :D

  • Best pickups are EMG and Dimarzio

  • @lordjdog- Bullshit. for metal? Yes. for anything else? No. Metal is ONE musical genre, jesus, broaden your horizons.

  • @superlou1s Uh, I play classical, baroque, romantice era, rock, hard rock, metal, punk, hardcore.....and i use both of those for all of them

  • @superlou1s You are prolly thinking of the old Dimarzios btw, those were shit pickups I agree but the new ones like the Dactivators are in my opinion the best all around pickups you can get.

  • @lordjdog- De-activators are ceramic pickups. You can't play totally clean with de-activators, and if you do try, it will sound flat. There's a reason people play strats with single coils, or gretsch's for clean tones. De-activators were literally MADE for high gain.

  • @superlou1s Not on my washburn 0.0 I clean play clean fine, I normally don't cuz I write metal, but when I do play clean I have no problems at all......its not just the pick ups, its the other parts of the guitar as well, how you set the guitar and the amp.......although mine is a customized 7 String.......that when set to the bridge on the Dactivator7 I get nice leads and clean, if i set to the other pickup or mid/mix it can get dirty but still have good lead.....stock you'd be right.

  • @lordjdog- There's a reason jazz players don't play deactivators. It's not a versatile pickup. It's excellent for metal, which you obviously play. Yes it CAN play clean but it doesn't do it as well as most other pickups in the world :/

  • @superlou1s Its personal pref then lol

  • @superlou1s I also play Nordic Tribal music.....so I'm pretty cultured with music mostly when it comes to my heritage.

  • @superlou1s romantic* fucking h8 this tiny ass keyboard ><

  • @lordjdog NOTHING EMG or Dimarzio makes can touch Fralins. Period.

  • Can you add pedals to this amp?

  • Ive got the Orange Dual Terror (with EH tubes) and through a 4x12, on all watt modes its loud but the lack of head room is far more noticeable than say a 100w head even on low volumes. This sounds pretty good though for 5 watts

  • did you eq the recording or is is a flatline from your 57 there ?

  • when he skips the strings at the start of each song you can almost hear a little 'verb added.....just what every amp needs!!!!! thicken things up a bit ya hear

  • Is this amp loud enough to do small to medium sized gigs? like clubs? and compete with a drummer?

  • @SHAPmovies some friend of mine "sold" me a blackheart (he made me want one so bad xD) : it's really loud !

  • govneco odnako

  • what a gay amp

  • at 2:10 you should have played a The Who riff.

  • @LatvianXave8 copyright

  • @0adireita yeah you're right the surviving members of the who would have got ON HIS ASS if he did that (rolls eyes massively)

  • Why is your head moving like that ? Nice amp !

  • "this amp is really loud for it's size"

"this amp maybe be only ***watts but it's loud!"

when will they ever learn that what we want in a low wattage tube amp is not loudness... we want a tube amp that we can use in the bedroom.

if we want a LOUD tube amp to gig with, we'll go straight for a JCM 800. we don't need a 5 watt tube amp that's not much softer than a 100 watt plexi head.

  • @000steelandstone000 Thats th nature of tube amps. A 5watt tube amp is half as powerful as a 50watt tube amp and a half watt amp is a quarter as loud. For every 3 decibel increase in sound you need double the power which is why these little amps seem so loud. Its mostly marketing hype that makes us think that we need 50 and 100 watt amps for gigging when in reality a 20 watter will be perfect for most if not all applications.

  • @000steelandstone000

its just how you want to use it. If you want to use its full-on gain, you're probably better off with a 'smaller' amp. But if you want to use it for a semi-gritty sound, you need to play at lower volumewith anyway with this one. My point is, it's all about how much headroom you want for a specific volume. For my room at college, I'd take this amp if i were to play with my effects and overdrive. Since i am not, I'm taking the killer ant instead.

  • @000steelandstone000 Hey sorry about saying this, 1st not everyone can buy a JCM 800 or a Plexi, or even Rectifier's from Mesa Boogie, this is an amp designed to be on small bands gigs, or you can use it to practice and reharsal (if you don't have tons of money) so just stop saying that kind of things, you can't compare that amp with a true beast like a Plexi : )

  • @RigorMortis203 you clearly didn't understand my comment. Please read it again.

  • @000steelandstone000 if you want noise just buy a bugera 1960 150 Watts of tube power !

  • @000steelandstone000 you think everyone's rich enough to afford a JCM800?

  • @000steelandstone000 That's your opinion dude, I'm looking for as much power as I can get for the lowest cost possible. This kinda thing is perfect for someone like me.

  • @000steelandstone000 its pretty hard to have a tube amp that sounds good quiet. Tubes are like engines which are happiest at full power.

  • @000steelandstone000 I use a 100 watt 6L6 head into a 600 watt eminence cab in my bedroom :P, the Marshall JCM 800 is nonmaster volume. Master volume heads save ears.

  • @000steelandstone000

reeves custom 10hg. cranked el34 goodness at a perfect bedroom volume. Careful though, doesnt really have a clean tone haha.

  • @000steelandstone000 That is not set in stone though. Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead uses either a Vox AC30 or a Fender Combo amp that doesn't even have tubes. They play stadiums all the time.

  • @TheStrangerInTheRye Look, this was what i meant.

I want a tube amp for home playing that won't bring down the house.

That's what my comment meant. Please read again thank you.

  • @000steelandstone000 power attenuator????

and about the amp....what does he mean it's not good for metal? i can still use a distortion stomp box and "metalize" it, right?

  • @quiz9146 yes, no problem

  • @000steelandstone000 i dont know if this certain head is what im talking about but you can get an amp the same as this head for £209 that doesnt need a cabinet so good sound but not to loud

  • I don't know about EMG pickups,but I rather prefer Seymour Duncan 59

  • lol, for some reason, when he played that first clean passage, I got this mental image of a barnyard! xD

  • Oh come on! I tried this just to see if it was true that a 5W tube amp is half as loud as a 50W and this thing is worthy of hooking up to a 212 cab and gigging a small club with. I tried it yesterday at the store and, no dice. It sounds nice, but is veeeery limited. It's a practice/recording amp so no convincing yourself it can be more. But if you judge it as such, its a really good purchase.

  • Is this loud enough for practicing/ shows with drums and bass?

  • My Blackheart sound way better than this as you can see here: Billy Talent Live - White Sparrows (studio quality cover)

  • I done understand this trend of making 5 watt amps loud?!?! I buy a 5 watter because its not loud! So I can crank it without fighting with the neighbours. If I want an amp to hang with a band I'll play my 100 watt Marshall.

  • @fleafarteasy I have a 250 watt Marshall, but I blew a speaker so there you go..

  • @fleafarteasy That's the difference, yer old and have a career. I'm young and in college. I can't afford something around an JVM's range. But I want tube sound and I want it to be loud as or louder than my drummer. Blackheart's got it. So what now smartass motherfucker?

  • Paul rules!

  • this or the valve junior half stack?

  • hhahaha it seems like pgs and guitar world are fighting over these amps

  • The guitar sucks miles away, emg's sucks. Take a shoot with a PRS guitar and you will get a good sound from the amp. A Les Paul will work as well.

  • I hate Paul. He's terrible, and he dials everything to sound like ass.

  • paul always does very good reviews...so everbody...SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!

  • @MrBonzo09

    no

  • @MrBonzo09 pgs does the best reviews

  • Semour sucks!

  • He should say "Hi, I'm Paul, and I'm going to rape any bottom end this had"

  • @jesusofsuburbia57 lmao i lol'ed so hard after reading this

  • Those EMG's destroyed any integrity the clean sound had... just terrible.

  • how do the measurements for amps work? like 1x12 or 1x10 or 2x8, etc

  • @jaguarlord1994 1X12 = One 12 inch speaker, 1X10 one 10 inch speaker and etc.

  • @ronspeck thanks man

  • @jaguarlord1994 Anything to help a fellow guitarist =]

  • anyone know of a good "smaller amp" that can easily play metal at bedroom level?

i was thinking about alot of different amps, so i dont really know what i should look at.

  • @najtrows Dunno, Blackstar HT-5?

Actually, look at one with a master volume. (duh)

Search for "The Ultimate Gear Information Sticky:Incorporating Info on Amps, FX and Pickups" on the Ultimate-Guitar forums. (I don't think it's letting me post links)

  • would i be able to gig with this and a 4x12 cab (Roland, respectively) or would it be too quiet?

  • @sheenomagee666 i would think it would be too quiet, unless you miced it. 4x12 would probably be overkill for this, considering its only 5 watts.

  • 5 watts?

  • Stop bitching about the pick up. its about the amp not the damn pick ups and emgs are fine i dont know what the hell you guys are talking about. Give me an 81 85 set and ill melt your face with some slipknot, dethklok, metallica, Zakk Wylde, Atreyu, Shadows Fall, Cannibal Corpse, Opeth, Dimmu Borgir, Killswitch Engage, Trivium and the many other metal/rock band that use them.

  • using for music ac/dc

  • Can this amp pull off a metal tone say for killswitch engage with a distortion pedal like a dod corrosion I not Whig pedal could do this

  • @kischeric I own a Little Giant with a Metal Muff pedal, and I pump out some really thick and dense and punchy tones, but I have to limit the volume knob on the amp, beacause otherwise it turns to total mush.

  • Get a seymour duncan twin tube classic, and use it with the rhythm channel, gain at about 11 o'clock, volume dimed. Then crank the volume on the amp. It pushes it over the edge. Even on a clean setting like that, the TT classic can still provide enough ALL-TUBE gain up front to multiply your signal X4, and really drives an already overdriven amp in to total saturation. Best part, it's still an all tube rig, just with a LOT more gain than the BH5 by itself.

  • awsome little amp..your demo helped my decision in getting this..thanx" i put up a little demo of it using a boss ds1 as a boost...

  • EMGs are for metal. For cleans, classic rock and blues, the stock pickups on my Goth Les Paul Studio sound better. Passive pickups own for pretty much everything except metal.

  • I tr this amp with an SG special, it sounds better! EMG sucks!!!!

  • will the cabinet work with a marshall 100 watt head

  • Are you kidding me? Why would you want to do that...

  • The stock single speaker cannot handle that...

You can however buy the cab and change the speaker, say to an Eminence speaker that has a power rating of over 100 Watts. Hope that helps.

  • no, it won't, cause the power of the marshall will kill the box

  • $199.99 for the head??? One word comes to mind... SOLD!!!

  • I love this amp, it sounds very natural, down to the bone.

  • adding a clean overdrive pedal or compressor to the amp cranked, possible of a loud clean tone and i heard closed back does that mean the back is closed to let the amp pump its tone directly out of the front. also whats the diffrence from a amp and a amp with head i knw theres a amp with same stuff as this control but no head(BH112 amp)

basically what i just asked whats a guitar head for?

    Please reply someone :)

  • are you serious or taking a piss?

  • I love my little giant, use it live all the time

  • there is just 1 thing i don't understand,

how can you choose between clean and a more overdrive sound. there isn't a switch for it...

    help pls

  • @chilke0 by volume - the more you crank the volume the more the tubes in it are saturated - and a saturated tube means overdriven sound

  • @GetReide but how can you get a high volume clean sound then?

  • @chilke0, this type of amp is not meant to do high-volume clean, OR switch between clean and dirty. Modern-day low-wattage amps (especially ones without master volume) are designed to get power tube overdrive at a decent volume level. Power tube overdrive is more natural and organic than pre-amp tube overdrive (which you get by cranking the "pre" and setting the master as needed). If you want loud and clean, you don't want a 5-watt amp.

  • These amps aren't about features like switchable channels. Amps from the 50's, 60's, and 70's were usually single channel amps without master volumes and you got that "crunch" by cranking the volume. All you need to do for a clean sound is roll back the guitar volume.

  • ain't this one by ampeg?

  • Blackheart is by Crate.

  • Mic the amp thru the PA there you go. loud enough now!

  • hmm maybe could this get hendrix tones and maybe adding a fuzz can help?

Which amp might be best for hendrix and adding just a coupel pedals help improve it way more?

  • hendrix used a marshall

  • yeh i knw that lol

  • have this amp.i would recomend who buys this amp change the caps inside really makes a big diference

  • can this handle big gigs

how many watt with the head and the cab

    please help

  • the head is 5 watts, and no it cant really do "big" gigs but i guess that depends on what ur definition of "big" is, but its pretty loud

  • I'm new to cabs & heads. Can i buy the bh5h head and not need to plug it into a cab to play through it? or do i have to have a cab?

  • @08Wylde You have to have a cab, because they contain the speakers.

  • Okay. I was looking for my first tube amp and didnt know whether to get a mini head but if i need a cab i might just get a mini combo. bugerra v5 etc.

  • You need a head for the cabinet. The cabinet can be anything though. only differnece is the speakers, number of speakers, quality, and its ohm outage. And amp heads do not have any speakers of any kind thats why you must plug it in to a cab.

  • I know a good first tube amp that you can get, It has 2 channels, all tube, an Fx loop, 3 band eq, low price tag. Look up the Blackstar HT-5 Combo, you can also get the head and a cabinet but that's a little more expensive. but the combo is excellent. Blackstar HT-5

  • If that's the case, just buy a combo which is a head and a cab all in one. The head just amplifies the electrical signal while the cabinet has speakers which convert that electrical signal into a sound. Guitar speakers are specific and you won't be successful if you hook a head to a hi fi system or any regular speakers.

  • it's better to use BH5 & BH112 or the combo BH5-112?

  • Active pickups suck the shit out of your tone!

  • then dont use them

  • I don't, thanks for the clever tip though genius!

  • dont comment about them then since you dont use them you clearly dont have a great opinion of them :)

  • ok, lets get this straight. I commented on them because that is my opinion, I am well within my rights to do so, please don't tell me what I should and shouldn't do. Secondly, I owned 2 guitars in the past, both loaded with EMG's and changed them both to Bareknuckle passive pups because the actives sucked my tone to hell so my opinion is based on experience not just on random ideas.

  • wow you got 2 guitars with EMGs surely after the first you would of realised, lol try making you lies sound believable

  • I bought an ESP ltd Viper first off, loved the guitar but hated the pups so I changed them. Second one was a used Epi Les Paul with actives that the previous owner had put in, It was going dirt cheap so I bought it and changed the EMG's within a week.

  • EMG sucks!

  • @Daggy007 You suck!

  • @vamanosxxx troll

  • @ghdvd *Troll.

  • @vamanosxxx you're the troll, asshole

  • @Daggy007 not for metal however passive owns anyday
