I've tried switching from 4:3 to 16:9 in windows movie maker. Instead of two black bars on either side, I get small black borders on all sides and up and down
I still have very small black borders at the sides of my uploaded video even though i applied a 16:9 ratio on it, when i uploaded it. I then tried doing what you said on your video but it didn't work. is there another solution to my problem
i have uploaded 2 vids that fit the screen but vids i watch from other users are all cropped on all sides ,even vids ive watched before and it wasnt like that but for some reason they are now .can anybody help me with this
I've tried to stretch out my video watch?v=29DBgpixr0E but it doesn't seem to work, how exactly did you do it? Where did you put your yt:stretch=4:3 yt:crop=16:9 yt:quality=high code in the video? PLEASE HELP!
This information is sweet, but it's the same everywhere. I'm looking for a command with which I can change AR of videos other people has uploaded. I believe it was to put "&f18" in the end of the address and you could change the AR of a video while watching it, but it doesn't work anymore. Do you know anything about that, because there are just toooo many nuts out there who don't fix their video AR and it annoys the heck out of me!
Hey..this really helped....but i havre a query....my video camera has a default resolution of 720x576.....and when i edit ad produce files with a 4:3 aspect ratio...the width is slightly stretched. Is it possible to use any other aspect ratios other than 4:3 and 16:9 on youtube??
The first video I added the stretch tag to worked perfectly. With the others, it isn't working no matter what I do. And why the hell is a site as huge as youtube taking my 16:9 videos and making them 4:3 anyways? Does this just not seem like a ridiculously large malfunction? Wouldn't this be fixable within a day if youtube decided to fix it? Anyways, the yt:stretch=16:9 tag worked for me once and not since. Any ideas on how that is possible?
Unfortunately people are complete idiots and refuse to fix their videos even though they are in wrong aspect ratio. People would rather avoid black borders, than having correct aspect ratio, despite it looking like shit because everything is either too tall or too wide.
The only thing I can't figure out is where to paste it. You say, "Paste it into your keywords, but where do you do that? What part of your account shows keyword?" Do you mean tags?
im subbing you just for this video! your a life saver i was annoyed that my videos kept getting cropped! all you have to do is paste the code he gives you i your video tags! Thanks Man
that actually works thanks and also i need some help. i signed up for an account on your website because i like ur music (especially this song its my favorite out of all ur songs) and im not really sure what this song is called or how i can listen to it b4 i download it. could u help me out?
Wow, it is really nice to see, that there are people who actually care about the quality of their videos and who know or at least have an idea, what the words "aspect ratio" mean. Sadly, here are people (not only on youtube) who don't give a shit about such things.
Keep in mind people, do not just put the yt:stretch=16:9 by itself, otherwise it will look extremely wonky and the size of the video will be eaten up by the edges of the video box. By adding yt:crop= 16:9, you can have your 4:3 video fit in proportion. I did this with one of my older 4:3 videos, and it looks perfectly in proportion like my newer videos.
Please, you need to first tell people that they SHOULDN'T do this if their original video was shot as 4:3 fullscreen, because stretching out a 4:3 fullscreen video to widescreen (16:9) just makes everything look fat and squashed out.
There are already too many (forgive me) idiots on YouTube who prefer to distort their whole image (making everything look squashed and freaky) just for the sake of getting rid of some black bars, which are supposed to be there in order to prevent image distortion.
@mikenike90 No, aspect ratio is not a matter of preference or opinion. It is about math. It is not a matter of preference to say that 2+2=5, it's just wrong. Human beings and everything in nature have been endowed with one set of proportions and they don't change. If you want to distort something then no one can stop you and you have a right to do it. I'm sure you *think* you know the "consequences" (of how bad it truly looks) but if you really did, you wouldn't do it.
@mikenike90 And also: There are people who have the aspect ratio version of color blindness or tone deafness. They still have good vision or hearing, but they are not able to discern things that others can. They may on one level intellectually understand that it's stretched out, but they can't comprehend how truly distorted it looks.
Do a google search for the keywords "Aspect Ratio Fail" and "are some people just visually dull" to read some interesting discussions about this phenomenon.
great video - that command line does work but only for videos that are originally uploaded to youtube 640x480. Other sizes get various box-crop effects from that command. Perhaps a better remedy is for tubers to change aspect ratio in video edit software to 16:9 or 1.78 (same thing) and then when saving videos, select frame size to be 1280x720 Use FLV for fasted file save and upload.
Look there are two types of video 16:9 and 4:3. Most video is still to this day 4:3, streaching that image to 16:9 is a craptastic way to do buisness. Do not stretch 4:3 to 16:9 and vise versa. Have you ever seen a video on a widescreen TV and everything round was shaped like an egg, or everyone looked short and fat, that's aspect ratio stupidity. STOP THE ASPECTS OF RATIO MADNESS!
@ObiTrev YES YES YES! You are totally right, and it's irresponsible to instruct everyone to stretch out their video, without first establishing whether the original was 4:3 or 16:9. If it's 16;9, sure, but 4:3 stretched out to fill the frame will make everyone look like CRAP! It's idiotic to do this! Hasn't anyone ever heard of PROPORTIONS? You can't just mess up and stretch out (or squish) proportions without the result looking like crap.
Thank you!!!! I was having INSANE amounts of trouble trying to render/upload videos in widescreen, so I just tried what you said, and it was really, really helpful.
If you stretch the video out then it'll distort the image... I highly recommend leaving it as it is, or change your "publishing" settings when you create the video.
Make the video 1280x720 (ratio of 1.77777778) or 800x600/640x480 (ratio of 1.3333333). When you upload your video, Youtube will automatically stretch it to fit the window best as possible without any distortion.
Please note Ohh Nii Sii Onn people, use on HD videos at your own risk, it will degrade it a little and stretch it (its supposed to do that ANYWAY, but the HDness will look weird). However, its good for the other resolutions of your videos.
Roll your curser over your username on the top of the page, there will be a drop down menu.
Click on 'My Videos'.
You will see 'Edit'' by each one of your videos, click 'Edit' by the video you want to correct.
Scroll down, you'll see 'Tags', copy and paste yt:stretch=4:3 yt:crop=16:9 yt:quality=high over there, and in an instant (almost literally) your video should be fullscreen the way it should be!

@realisticHomeboy
Not only does it make everything too tall or too wide, it also makes the video distorted.
To understand what I mean by that, imagine what happens if an object rotates with respect to the screen.
The object appears to deform as it rotates.
It's hideous -- and mathematically incorrect.
barichm0 1 year ago 7
@barichm0 It is indeed hideous, but somehow a lot of people cannot even see that something is wrong.

All I needed was yt:stretch=16:9
I don't post videos over 16:9 so it works great.
yt:quality=high caused my videos' qualities to be better but also made their default size to the bigger version.
Using yt:crop=16:9 caused some of my videos viewing area to be cut off.
Basically
yt:stretch=4:3 yt:crop=16:9 yt:quality=high
Failed for me & just
yt:stretch=16:9 worked the best alone. :)
Glad you posted this video it helped me a lot. :)
