I agree with you. A number of changes were made to the RCA circuitry by Julius Goldberg in order to make his theremin sound more like a brass instrument and less like the human voice. I am not sure why he did this but it could have been because he sometimes played in very large venues and perhaps he thought the sound carried better. Unlike most modern theremins, the RCA had no tone controls on it, so if you wanted a particular sound you actually had to modify your instrument.
