lol, your complaining about 7 hours later? last winter we got plows the next week... but i dont complain cause i like driving my quad or snowmobile down the road XD and it also keeps the amateurs off the roads and on the shoulders waiting for a tow truck
Your lucky to get a plow 7 hours after he storm, where i used to live they plowed the streets twice maybe 3 times a winter and where i live now they usually do it 2-3 days after the storm which isn't very good but better than before.
Being a plow driver myself. when we get big stroms we even have a hard time pushing the snow outta the way. when we had the big strom in late Feburary Early March of this up here in Michigan. Me and quite a few of my buddies were running hours behind schedule. When you decide to get up at 2 am to go clear driveways and parking lots and work 8 hours and then go into a full time job that same day then you can say something. In that big storm I plowed 60 hours straight without stopping for sleep.
sometimes we don't get my road paved from days. and it's all hills so after a few days passes I just get in my truck and plow the dangerous parts out. from the video it looks like you had a lot of snow, big deal. the main roads in my town don't get plowed for hours to but i don't complain. even my little escort can make it through all the snow in michigan.
Why do you feel you need to share your petty little problems with the entire world? If you have a local problem,,,, deal with it locally. You say you've been there 20yrs,,, do you think maybe your town has grown in 20yrs? Usually plowing is done much like medical triage, the most important streets get priority. Your kilam dr. looked like a heavier travelled road where once they get it plowed the traffic keeps it clean.
Okay, in Illinois we got almost 2 feet of snow. If our bus got stuck in a snow drift, I would go to the front of the bus and say lemme try and get the bus un stuck and tell the school to SHOVE THE SNOW UP UR ASS!
@Newschaser you do realize that there is typically only one driver per plow and that there is no relief driver. and when the plows come off the road that is a rest period. i know that in some places truck drivers, plow drivers and equipment operators on the road are not allowed to work for more then 12 consecutive hours according to a D.O.T. mandate and the penalties are quite stiff if your caught after the 12 hours it employers dont like those fines
I can see both sides here. First, though, did everyone notice a MINIVAN scooting around ahead of the plow? LOL. I have seen city/county/state trucks driving around already-plowed roads with their plows up, while 2nd-ary rds are under 12". I have NO interest in hearing whiny, overpaid govt employees whining about their "work load". Get to work, or go work at burger king, fool.
This is exactly how we do it in our town. Main roads are used more, therefore they are more important. If you leave main roads unplowed and hit the little residential side roads first then how are you going to get anywhere. You will never keep everyone happy all the time so you need to do what's practical for the majority. Yes it's a pain for many people but it's something you just have to wait for. Doesn't mean they don't care about you, just means they need more money, man power, and equipment
@freedomunrestricted nope just fed up with the BS contractors that show up when they feel like it and when they do the job its usually half ass because there only paying the guy shit money UNDER the table to do the job .
@sojaes10 yup sure you do , I know how it works I plowed snow. Line your pockets and get people plowed out when you feel like it LOL pay taxes so you can clean my street thx!!!
K, I would hope either you didn't read my comment fully or you're being sarcastic, because I was being concerned for ALL the citizens' safety, not just my own. Besides, that was over a year ago.
And FYI WE do clean up after every storm; our driveway and walkway is usually the first on our street to be done. But I really can't make my husband snowblow the WHOLE city, now can I?
our street not only gets plowed faster , but our street was paved this summer by the same company , go figure , I plowed snow for years , I know main roads are plowed first of course but there was no need to wait this long in a small city like Moncton and we wont on our street again ! or I will shoot videos of this company taking forever and show it to city concil , it s all about contracts , money and greed, people doing favors LOL
thats not a main area they do citys first highways main roads than side roads by the time there done with all the other areas it would probly take that long. i live in pennsylvana about 10 or 15 miles out side of pittsburgh if its bad with like 1 or 2 feet of snow it takes them a day somtimes to get to us. so you dont got it that bad.
Well 7 hours is better than 2 to 3 days where I live in Iowa. and the the side streets in the town I live near don't get plowed just truck routs and main routes. residence gets a one lane eventuality so count your blessings, the farmer down the road from my Dad opens his road so they can get to work.
@edwardmeling count blessing screw that count tax dollars thown away to these greedy contractors , Should be all plowed out after a storm with in a few hours with all the equiptment they have.
Maybe if everyone approached City Council and asked (and pays for) better service the city would buy some more plow trucks. At around $100,000 each that's not chump change, and if the show is deep, it takes a whole lot longer to plow. Add to that people who are parked on the street and traffic getting in the way (and moving slower with deeper snow) and plain and simple, it takes time to plow. Get in a plow truck sometime and you'll start to respect the job these people do.
@Newschaser True, but I'll bet you couldn't plow 50 miles of street in one day with your old tractor. It certainly isn't rocket science. If each street takes 3 passes in each direction, multiply the miles of streets in your city times 6 and divide that by the number of plow trucks your city has. On city streets, a plow truck probably averages about 15 mph, so do the math and you can figure out how long it SHOULD take.
sure the way the city wastes money we are going to cutback on plowing snow , makes sense everyone gets in accidents drives the insurance up , saves alot of money not plowing properly LOL
Not all city employees are slackers, but sometimes i wonder wth they are thinking. I dont drive, i walk. I've seen sidewalks cleaned 3-4 days after the storm had finished. I've seen the sidewalks cleaned but left with a thin ice of snow, no salt or sand to keep it non-slippery. You might be insulted rickydomash but i am too when the plows passes again, fills up the sidewalks, and 3 days later we still have to walk on ice blocks that were cleaned from the road.Moncton cares not for pedestrians.
i hear ya man i live in southern michigan and when it snows its no dusting but what we do in my sub is got about 7 familys pitched in a bought a plow for my old 4x4 truck i rarely use and all the men have a key and who ever gets home first or w.e plows our street/driveways/main route to the main road, or buy a 4x4 and just drive were u want to, lol
keepingthebeat1989, right on, another Michigander just tellin the story. When it snows here, it snows, so the city departments have their work cut out for them. And when it snows alot everybody and their friend wants you to plow for them, and the list just grows...
If you lived in a snowbelt area you'ld realise there is a big difference between a storm and that little fluff floating around in this vid. And whether it is still snowing is irrelevant. That said, 7 hrs is reasonable for a side street given the budgets we all face. There is only so much equipment and manpower to go around.
I have a 12 to 15 hr route on the heavy snowfall days and someone has to be last ... it's all about priorities.
haha, well if you lived in a snowbelt area you could have 4 feet overnight and 6 or 7 feet of snow or more in a week and you'ld be snowbound til spring:) I guess it depends what you call a lot right:)
I know, you're laughing, right? Mayor Mel called in the Army not for snow removal, but for the 6-wheeled Bison Personnel Carriers. These Bisons were used to assist Fire & Ambulance on Medical calls. In one case, a lady survived a Heart Attack only because of these Bisons. The Army picked up a stranded Ambulance crew, got them to the call, and were able to transport the patient, stretcher, equipment, 2 Medics and a firefighter to Hospital, while doing CPR Defib & heart medication. Good call Mel!
I used to plow in Toronto for private property owners. My contracts allowed me24 hrs to get it done, because you never knew how much you'd get or how quick it would fall. In 1992, some customers didn't get done for several days because the City snowplows were getting stuck all over town, due to the large amounts that fell in a 48 hr period. I couldn't get my pickup truck down their streets. In 1999, it was even worse. So bad in fact that Mayor Mel Lastman called in the Cdn Army to assist .
7 hours late is better then not at all .. i had to plow the part of my road thats about 500 feet long with my quad so my mom could get out .. luckyly my driveway is only about 75 feet in!!!
its not the people who operate the equipments fault its the management of the city's. Every year the city gets larger and larger and all they do is ad more streets for the boys to plow. the city needs to wake up and see that the city is getting larger and add more plow operators jobs. You wouldnt beleive how short the public works dept is for staffing. the funny part is is that there is more directors in city hall then there are plow operators.
In the Kent area a few weeks ago they had a woman die in the ambulance on her way to the hospital because : 1- The ambulance couldn't get to the house because the roads weren't plowed 2- The plow operator had a hard time getting to the government garage to get his plow to plow the road for the ambulance?!? I think number 2 really makes you wonder
It is unreal the service we get when it snows!! With the amount of taxes we pay it's even worse. They need to wake up and see we're in Atlantic Canada and it snows once in a while in the winter. The emergencies is what makes me wonder... I get a kick out of the radio announcements saying "RCMP is telling people to stay off the roads" Well OK, it's kind of hard to postpone a heart attack or whatnot because of the snow isn't it?!?
We live in Moncton off Katherine Avenue. We still only have just a "path" for a sidewalk. The worst thing is my little girl, who just turned 6 last week, has to walk to and from school. Yeah, she has either her daddy or myself to go with her, but the idea that my child's safety means nothing to the city of Moncton pisses me right off!!! What about the children that don't have someone walking them to school and then back home??? What if a car came a little fast off Mountain???? That would be bad.
@niselat Seriously, this is enough. There is no reason to post ur simple little views on a video from almost 3 years ago. How bouts you stop trolling on videos and get a life...... just saying
Yesterday they still didn't even have any sidewalks plowed on Elmwood Drive and they expect all of those little kids walking to Forest Glen School to walk on one of Moncton's most busy streets. It's amazing no one has been hit yet. A huge street like Elmwood should have their sidewalks plowed in time for kids to go to school.
You have to realize this is a pretty big wollop we got in terms of being unprepared for it. Even people as far out as chipman went all afternoon with NO plowed roads at all. A lot of removal vehicles got called off the roads over night due to bad blizzard conditions and were only allowed back on in man y places by the morning. So they had to hit main rds first
The City of Moncton does what it can to provide the best services to the public. Every city plow and or contractor has a run they have to make. the last section for the contractor hired by the city was probably westbrook circle. Yes I would say that he should have made a pass overnight but you never know maby his machine was down and Monarch had no more machine to replace it with. City staff do a better job the contractor working for the city i find.
the solution is : something that will never happen because most people are too chicken ... to stop paying our city taxes until they give us satisfactions with the bulk of people doing it what can they do
they have their priorities wrongs parking lots ,and walking trails first ,then downtown main streets are then whatever left if the drivers are not too tired ..
did you know that they have a week to plow the sidewalks around the school areas where the kids have to walk up to 2.4 km to the schools
a lot of it on the streets because of unplowed sidewalks
Lutz street between Main and Record St. is so narrow that my full-size truck and another similar vehicle just fit without me having to try to drive up onto the snowbank.
You do realize you dont have the only road in the city right? It takes time... Some peoples kids...
