  • loved this film..... <3

  • 21 people don't like art.

  • Alen stinkt!!!!

  • Fuck off recykling!!

  • when i saw the title i thought it was about fallout

  • Film vue à la collection Lambert en Avignon. superbe et tellement vrai ,)

  • such an inspiration!

  • @}~~}~~

  • Great film !

  • looooved it! they deserve every bit.

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is film is amazing. It's changing people's lives the way it supposed to be done- by showing them other ways . And it teaches us that you can help others by doing what you love.

  • Whats the name of the first song?

  • AMAZING FILM!!...thank you vik muniz for giving not only all those poeple but all of us this gift..i can only dream of doing what you did some day..but thank you for being an inspiration...YOU'RE THE MAN!!!!

  • whats the point of winning awards if they dont really change how those people live!

  • @happyponey This is a pretty stupid comment. You really think these "poor black people who live in the slums" made this movie? Well, they didn't. Vik Muniz made it.

  • what is the name of the song!! :)

  • Great film.

  • Vik Muniz is some kind of Angel

  • such a magnificent film.

  • I loved this film. One of my all time favorite art documentaries. ;~)

  • Thank you for this amazing documentary. I really connected with all of the people involved. It's truly an inspiring story... I love love loved it.

  • @happyponey "the movie is trying to give them a voice."....it is not trying...it is GIVING them a voice! :-)

  • Moby - God Moving Over the Face of Waters

  • Please NAME OF THE TRACK at 1:10

    THANKS A LOT

  • It is refreshing to see that people like Vik Muniz take action in exposing projects like this to the rest of the world. Transforming a dump into art and changing peoples lives in the process. I’m hoping that the new film Programming the Nation? will affect people in a way similar to the hold this documentary had on me. Jeff Warrick uses PTN to bring awareness of manipulation into the minds of viewers. He addresses subliminal messaging through all dimensions of the media, bitly .com/oQ0ZVk.

  • Just saw this documentary... its awesome! brilliant!

Miss it... and your life will be... the same! ;)

  • Entropy is ever increasing.

  • The greatest documentary I've ever watched, and I have watched a lot. Although a bit sad at times, the people in it always have a positive attitude. I loved it... Vik really did make a difference in their lives... and did some great things. I loved the somewhat complete turnaround. Hopefully great things will keep happening to the association :).

    Brilliant film!

  • vimos isso na minha aula de ingles, muito triste

  • We watched this in an arts lecture. Very inspiring and sad at the same time. I'm watching it again.

  • Loved this film. Honestly changed my perspective. I thought they would be more miserable at their life but you can see the hope in them. They are now proud of themselves. A must watch!

  • Love this beautiful movie. So much depth and many layers. The discussion of Vic and his wife about how this project would affect the people was very important. I am an American living in Mexico, and I know how few Americans have a clue how to watch a film like this. We Americans do not need to go into poor countries to "save" people. "Helping" others can be a loaded subject and a delicate line to walk. What if the "help" is more about the helper feeling better? It is a multi-layered issue.

  • inspiring :)

  • Brilliant Film.

  • the comments represent everything this movie is NOT about. If said privileged person (regardless of race) were to bring himself out of his comfort zone and help the poor, and conversely, the poor people allowed themselves to be uplifted, aided, and willing to help themselves, then you would capture what the movie is really about. writing those age old arguments are certainly not in the spirit of the movie. I do agree with ur critique. but i get tired of ur brand of comment also

  • @cbopshoowop Now you're talking :)

  • @happyponey and a beautiful woman you are! I am sorry I suppose we share the same view about the first guys post. but I see the same posts between people all the time. Its as old as time. first person. 'i feel bad becuz us privileged white people have this and that blah blah". second person (even more high and mighty) says "you privileged white people have no right to feel tis and that. Im black and have to deal with this and that blah blah". bringing race into it only makes it more formulaic

  • To the second guy i am equally angry. ur the only one who 'deserves' to get it.becuz u know about this/that blah blah. fuck you. youve made it about you, shitface. and its not just about the pickers its about art, redemption, beauty in the lowest places, giving back to community, making something of nothing. Are you blind cant you see that? I guess you cant see that most of the pickers werent black? Your position is about as worn out as the other guys *ZzZzZz*. Just be happy this film exists!

  • @cbopshoowop Plus, work the way you speak before getting so angry at something you know less than we do. Screaming, you only cause headaches in people who were supposed to listen to you.

  • I scrolled down to see the two comments highest rated that i hoped wouldnt be on here at all. I hope they were 'liked' ironically. To the first guy who is the only guy in the US to 'get' this movie- fuck you. seriously. ur trite position with its preachy tone has been worn so threadbare as to be almost platitudinous...and everyone loves this movie. dickhead.

  • @happyponey Well said!

  • a nice film that is uplifting being bought down by spam comments FUCK OFF! no one wants to visit your shitty web site

  • check this one for waste land: 5SFgiWoIY_U

  • Many of us in the US have a preference for ignorance. Change can happen, but first comes awareness.

  • @covillmm

    my friend

take a critical look to other countries

ignorance RULES in countries in Asia, Europe, South America..........Africa?

  • By far the best movie of this millennium at filmsi.co.cc. And the song is just... incredible. Mind blowing. Makes me think of the movie all the time. One of the greatest movies ever!

  • anybody know the name of the second song , kicks in around 1;30 , thanks if you can help :-)

  • Awesome!

  • I am an american, that said, this will probably get terrible reviews here in my homeland. This movie makes people THINK and we all know how Americans don't like to THINK. We don't want to THINK how all our old treasure is now sitting in a garbage heap somewhere. We don't want to SEE people who live off our garbage, because we have it soooo bad in life. We have a bad day because our cell phone dropped our call or our kid just wrecked his new BMW we bought him for graduation. We are shallow...

  • @koonfamily44 you are not shallow, but you need to start to take accountability for your actions.

  • @opsimathics

    koonfamily44 is shallow....

and maybe does not know what is going on out of his great "shallow" little world.....

  • @koonfamily44

    BS

how can you say this? Maybe because you have a bad day if your cell dropped your call? or your kid just wrecked your new BMW?

  • @koonfamily44 I honestly and truely agree with what you're saying- this movie forces us to think, to appreciate, to become inspired. I just watch it and absolutely loved it. Yet, sadly,I cannot think of any of my friends who would be interested in the film and take the time to appreeciate it. Which is tragic. However, to your first sentence, this film was not at all given terrible reviews here in America. It was given 5 stars and gladly ranked the #1 movie of 2010.

  • @koonfamily44 I fel sorry for all you americans because you hate yourself so muche. You country done many god things in the world and you hate you own self. You have no pride. I am from a poore country and we have mcuh pride.

  • @koonfamily44 seems you think you can walk to africa, too.

  • Comment removed

  • @koonfamily44 That does not make us shallow... there is a buddhist precept that says that every man has 72 problems.... look it up. You will learn from it if you come with an empty cup.

  • @koonfamily44 This is idiotic commentary. This movie actually got great reviews in America, so you're already wrong. Just because the average American has a good life and hasn't seen a bad one doesn't make them a lesser person.

  • Comment removed

  • @koonfamily44 you're an idiot and i'm an american. i've heard plenty of americans raving about this movie. and there's plenty of americans who live in these conditions. trust me, i live in baltimore.

  • @merks91 really? do ppl in baltimore sleep in huts like that, work since they were 6 in garbage, take showers out of buckets, and have to share two cots with more than 6 ppl? i'm an american too but that doesn't give the us right to be spoiled and think we know everything. They're the ones that know more about life in general.

  • just because someone is american, doesn't mean that they too don't live off your garbage. Before you incorporate "we" in this scenario. Stop for a second and realize that America itself does not take care of all of it's citizens.

  • @koonfamily44 I don't think Americans are stupid an sich. I just think they refuse to reflect upon the destructions created by capitalism. Capitalism is besides Christianity America's one and only religion. They have nothing else, never knew anything else.

  • @koonfamily44 Stop finding faults in others and try to do something yourself to better those you know and have a positive impact on the world...You can make excuses about why the world isn't fair, but how about just living life and trying to help people. And don't get me wrong, there are a lot of things wrong with America, but theres a lot of things wrong with humanity in general..Your part of the problem bud. Some people are naive to the problems of others but we ALL have compassion.

  • Who are the idiots that pressed thumbs down to this???

  • @mridulsaha1 - ?

The director is a woman, and I've never heard of any film she has done called New World.

  • Moby !!! it worth watching just for soundtracks <3 <3 <3

  • why make a movie about a portrait of a piece of shit made out of several pieces of shit i mean atleast make the guy in the portrait white

  • @mrwobblebass u fucking serious? or u just retarded?

  • Great

  • I'm gonna watch this at school... Kill me now.. -.-

  • @xxMagdalena Gladly.

  • @BasementBeginnings Awwww <3 Thanks :D <3 But you're toooo late -.-

  • @xxMagdalena Doesn't look like it, you seem pretty alive to me.

  • @BasementBeginnings I meant that you're too late.. I have allready seen it ;) <3 But that's okay :D Maybe next time :D <3

  • and then, at the end of the day, there is still a giant growing pile of garbage with no plan whatsoever.

  • @derman077 Incorrect - modernization is occurring

Look up Gramacho on cnn.com to get the idea

  • @volunteerz Incorrect - evolution is occurring

Watch the movie Idiocracy to get the idea.

  • I have watched Idiocrazy but it's just a movie, even though thoughtprovoking. Brazil is about to host the Olympic Games so they need to develop their country despite corruption, drugs and gangs

  • love the smile at 1:05.

  • @walanamandyan she is lovely :)

  • I just recently saw this film in my Environment class and it is truly beautiful. Their stories are saddening yet the way they deal with their hardships is truly inspiring. "99 is not 100."

  • now this is one positive, productive film that pulls away from America's tendency to make any documentary into a spy-conspiracy thriller. Amazing!!!

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • lovely

  • Wonderful!!!

  • I have uploaded the full documentary (6/5/2011) on YouTube. Enjoy!

  • Another side of this story is how shit the brazilian government is. The corruption grows more and more everyday.

  • 200 tons of recycled materials everyday from these folks taking the time to sort through it all...Bravo! What a GREAT environmental and human story. I saw it on the Independent Lens and fell in love!

  • i saw this in art class!

  • showed this to my English class and the comments I got back from my presentation is the respect my peers have towards artists!

  • We watched this in my art appreciation class..A really amazing film

  • @ATLANTASIGMABETA where can i get this movie its not available in my country...

  • best documental ever. a must see.

  • I absolutely loved this movie - I have traveled to Rio many times and can say there is no place or people like it the world... Man, what a film... really just loved it so much. Never been inspired so much by art before.

  • this movie is breathtaking....

  • this looks like the qorst film ever!!!!

  • @Chronic1Fs I don't know what "qorst" is, but if that's a new term for "excellent" you're right on.

  • im brazilian and i lol'd when he talked about brazilians being classissists while living in the us, the country that thinks that is better than the others

  • I have just finished watching the full documentary, awesome job, but comon, what is that in the beginning that Vick says that those people are all drug addcted? THAT WAS A VERY UNFAIR JUDGEMENT ON VICK'S SIDE. It should def be cut off from the video. Actually who is Vick to judge anyone by look. Anyways over all, It was a brilhant work.

Parabens Vick and catadores de materiais reciclaveis.

  • @santanamotoimports

I actually think it was a great thing that they left it in. It means Vick is happy to show how he misjudged them before hand.

It means a lot more when you see how beautiful the people there really are.

  • I know what you are saying, but in my eyes "vicky" should at least apologizy for misjudging those people before even knowing them. Anyways, I just wanted to point it out because saying that all those people are drug addcted was such a strong expression.

  • Resources are carefully mined from the planet, smelted into goods, sold, used, and then tossed back into disorganized piles.

The future will include mining landfills for material resources if this insanity continues.

  • This documentary is very inspirational, and the recyclable portraits look amazing. Watch the movie.

  • I will pay double the money that I pay for movies, if the money is going to the people who need it the most.

  • 'One man's trash is another ones tresure' <3

  • Respond to this video... Mothers of the Night by Moby

  • @ledgunss mothers of the night by moby

  • gracias por esto Oda.. esta bueno...

  • What a waste!!

  • 11K views and only 5 comments, and 23 liks. O.o ?

  • @dalladeien I think the problem is that it's hard for people to illustrate what they feel about this through a comment. kind of a... disgust against themselves and the rest of "civilization"... which doesn't look so civilized anymore.

  • JUST WATCHING THIS TRAILER IS MAKING ME TEAR UP.

  • @maxwellnolan your a baby It did not even make me feel bad
