I must say that I prefer "Totgeliebt" over "Love is dead". The German version has a deeper meaning than the English version.
What's really a bummer is that the English version is not a direct translation of the German one, if you know what I mean. I don't speak English that well, so I don't know how to explain it in a better way.
ppl! there is no need to give this person shit abt the way they did this video. if u read the description it specifcly says (or however u spell that) the german lyrics are to totgeliebt and the english ones are to love is dead!! so everybody just calm down..... HOLY CRAP!!
They probably altered the lyrics to fit the English translation. You can't exactly translate a song into another language, else it sounds awkward and it's impossible in some cases.
yeah, that's definatelly true. I don't know much Deutsch, but I'm pretty sure after looking up some of the nouns and verbs that I don't know, the translation leaves something to be desired. Maybe its jus me, or maybe there's some odd idioms I'm not familiar with.
What you wrote was correct because in the english Bill sings it that way, although thats not what it means German has no correct meaning for most words. Just thought i would clear that up
Besides, the English language in this one is a completely different song, its not the english version of Totgeliebt, its the song Love Dead. Two completely different songs with different lyrics but the same music.
i would just like to make it known that i am aware that the songs are basically different but the music is exactly the same. I'm not an idiot. ive translated the music and have managed to figure that out. i'm sorry if it's not clear enough.
ahh. okay. i don't mean to be snippy. i guess i'm just annoyed that people keep finding issues with my video and then it turns out that they are wrong. i guess i just need to state what the video is about better.
Nein, if you want to get real with German you should all know that Bill changed some of the german words to mean different things so in in Scream Bill says try to break free. but the real german is "i can no can no more"
Um no? I speak German and grew up speaking it fluently to my mother. Ich kann nicht mehr means "I can no longer". How can Bill change German words and their meanings? Hes not the German language president or something and can suddenly say this means this and that means that.
The English versions are completely different. They change EVERYTHING. So if you want to original songs, listen to the German ones.
@omgrobbiee Those aren't a translation, it's basically just the lyrics for the song in english! theres a couple parts that are messed up but this song is the most similar in german and english than any other of their songs.
You can stop lumping us all together thanks. That's really impolite, sure he got the translation wrong, but him being American has nothing to do with the rest of us. Not to mention, me, along with a lot of other German speaking Americans I know, speak it just fine. I mean I was able to tell that the translation was wrong, and German is my third language. So you can stop the disrespect now thanks. ;)
I kept reading the German becuase I'm learning it, and I was reading the English translations as well and I was like: I must suck at German, because thats not how I read it!
Than I looked at the comments... and now I feel like a dork.
LOL, I wish she put that in the title =P, lol was like" WHAT?!? Because that would mean I suck at speaking AND reading German... Right now I can only read German, when I speak it, I sound so horrible-damn braces and every other piece of metal in my mouth XD
haha i wear braces too and it doesnt change anything in the spelling lol
but maybe cause im kinda used to foreign languages if u are an english mother language speaker u'll find it hard but im spanish/egyptian and french speaker and learning dutch so yeah:D:D [i dont mean to show off just making a point] hehe anyways practice its not an easy lang. though xD
Yeah, i have braces, a permanent retainer and metal arms (like rubberbands but metal) so its soooooper hard @.@
Yeah, just an English speaker lmao, wow that's impressive, French? Its such a pretty language. You must be really pretty with your background. LOL, far from easy xD
You mean the actual english words and the actual german words are different? i guess they did that so i would rhym or something. well tell me the ACUAL translation then please! ^_^

totgeliebt means "deadloved" in literal translation, but "loved to death" or "killed by love" hits the point best,

These lyrics and english translations are horrible.
Some of the german isn't even correct.
Like "Ich kann nicht mehr" is not "Try to break free" its "I can no longer"
Americans -.-
omgrobbiee 3 years ago
i know. it's not the direct translation.
it is the german Totgeliebt lyrics and the english Love is Dead lyrics,
not the direct translation.
the direct translation (which could be wrong because i copied and pasted it from a website) is in the side bar.
I explain all this in the anotation on the video and in the sidebar.

love dead is not the direct translation.. geliebt means after love tot is to die.. together is to die after love
gunny140 2 years ago
I know it's not the direct translation, I SPEAK the language hun.
Geliebt does NOT mean "after love." Geliebt comes from "gelieben" which is the present perfect of the verb "lieben."
"Tot" does NOT mean "to die" the verb for "to die" is "sterben"
"tot" means "dead"
Together it does NOT mean "die after love" together it means "deadloved" German groups words together that translate different
You have to understand German grammar in order to get what I'm saying, which you obviously don't.
omgrobbiee 2 years ago 2
@omgrobbiee
by the way:- the past tense form of "lieben" is "geliebt".
The verb "gelieben" doesn't exist in german. I know, our grammar sucks!
