  • bloody hell... this sounds amazing, great sound. any eps or demos?

  • Sooooo electro! This is some real art, you know that? I'd love to hear more of this semi-electro Igil music!

  • You are a genius!!!

  • Very nice, thanks for share us ! I am a musician in Paris and I should like to buy and learn the igil. Could you tell me where I can buy an Igil and if the cords are from horsehair (if yes where can I find thelm) or other please.

  • i smell nomadic chill kkkk. Great going dude. Wish you best of the best from Mongolia!

  • If there weren't the electronic sounding beat and little synth sounds I think I'd like it a lot more. Sounds like it was made on GarageBand or something

Not trying to put it down, cause it's pretty wicked. Just seems a little cheesy if you pay attention to anything other than the Igil at points.

It definitely sounds awesome through those effects though

  • when i first heard the Beat i was like "this sounds lame".... luckly for me i kept listening.... i was VERY VERY wrong... this was the most Melodic thing i have heard in a while... this was really actually inspirational... i really enjoyed it..... i watched it like 8 times, i think its safe to say you are EPIC

  • Simply breathtaking. Such a fun adventure for the senses to embark upon.

  • This is one of the singular most epic things Ive ever seen. I want an igil so bad!

  • great one

  • Music for The Gods

  • brilliant stuff

  • fuuuckyeahh

  • The drum machine -these melodies deserve better!

  • What interval are the two strings from each other if played open?

  • They are played a 5th apart, in this case the low note is C and higher note is G. Sometimes I use D and A, and once in awhile tune them to a 4th.

  • Very cool. Great playing, by the way. Sounds awesome!

  • so awesome!

  • absolutely brilliant

  • it's good shit, what kind of effects are you running? i hear wah, delay, and a really smooth clipping on the overdrive. anything else you do for that particular sound? (other than the natural properties of the instruments of course)

  • Sounds like a Zoom 505 I had.

  • sorry for the late reply, I running it through an AdrenaLinn guitar processor.

  • This is one of the best I've heard yet. You rock my world!!! When would you be releasing your first album? I'd be first to grab one...

  • Man, you blow my mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sir, you are the FUTURE!

  • Kinda similar to "Ignition" Don't you think?

  • Yeah, a little too similar :) This one came first, but I liked Ignition a lot better.

  • think am gonna WHITEY ,ha ha neat, pretty neat ....shine on

  • waaaaaaaw.like it

    peace from belgium

  • Oh my gosh! Could you imagine Mozart trying to write all that down? I believe it would have driven him mad. Ha ha!! My friend, fantastic!!!! Loved it. Can you tell?

  • @GuildOfAbundance um what?

  • that's pretty awesome...

  • THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME

  • lovely, awesome, thank you for this song!

  • JUST WHAT MY BRAIN NEEDS... THANKYOU

  • your a genius!

  • Forkin nuts man, im loving it, passionately....i cant spell either... :/

  • thanks man! glad you like it! :)

  • im loving it, you might have just gave me a really good idea!

im gonna try to get one of the drum things called PANArt dont really know alot about them, but you played them in ur resent videos,

i have no clue how to get one here in toronto

  • don't forget hoping that maggots eat my brain out while I'm still twitching in that alley, that would be a nice touch Diebythesword

  • ignore the hateful, heartless *@~$ lol. Even if you don't like someone's music you don't say that. but for the record i thought the music was awesome. Nicely done.

  • lol, thanks for the reality check luke :)

  • this guy is awesome.

    where you from mate?

  • thanks! southern california

  • This thing is cool, sounds like fun to me! :) Carmy

  • Sounds like Linkin Park(The first album). Very nice.

  • man... how do you change pitch so quickly ?_?

  • not really changing pitch, just filtering different harmonics in and out to the beat, kind of like an automatic wah-wah pedal that jumps to different places, so it gives a feeling of "movement" but still the same pitch

  • I have to say, your music is awesome. I grew uo listening to Huun Huur Tu, and to hear how you manipulate these instruments is spectacular. Thanks, and keep up the great job.

  • add a psy trance beat to it and it would be the sickest thing ever created by man

  • I agree but psytrance sucks make it goa trance.

  • ok lol

  • Very unique unto it's self...Shine..!

  • G'day John, I first heard your music when i started researching the amazing hang drum, and was impressed with what you did with it, since then i keep finding myself coming back to listen to more of your stuff, i really like your groove!

  • how do you record the sound of the igil? have you made some kind of pickup?

  • there's a thin flexible contact pickup that is slid under the bridge

  • i cant get over how you got that sound outta the insterment is itt electric lke.. you got likea flang sound in it with god only knows what else

  • thanks for the comment! :)

  • i dig this!

  • Thanks!

  • Its just so dam good...keep on playin brother

  • Thanks man!

  • wow i just found your music today looking at random videos and i can't get enough. the tunes are amazing as is but have you ever thought of having someone put lyrics over it? or maybe using several of your instruments at once and/or dubbing them over each other? just some ideas. keep up the good work!

  • thanks for the comment! yes I'm starting to incorporate more instruments into my newer stuff now

  • ... ODD, CREATIVE, ADORABLE... :+)

  • mtv and other music channels need to wake up and realize what real music is instead of churning out the crap that they do!! a single thread is the best thing to happen to music in a long long time!! thanks you John!!

p.s. u might wanna experiment with indian and pakistani string instruments. i think it's right up your alley and u'll do a great job there too!!

  • Thank you very much for your comments. Are you in Pakistan? I thought the blocked YouTube for a bit :( Anyway, yes, I'd like that, I love indian music too, very interesting music, and my neighbor has played sitar for 50 years!

  • yup i am. apparently i also heard they blocked youtube here, even though i never had any problems accessing it... guess our government couldn't even do that right... lol :-D

wow... 50 years of sitar... that's wicked!! great to know u're interested in traditional indian music... i've always wondered what a distorted, delayed sitar would sound like ;)

and it's really cool of u to respond to everyone... u rock :)

  • You can get the distorted sitar sound out of a guitar. The trick is in the scale. Very simple when you know what your doing. I've been trying to get original sounds out of my guitar ever since I got it, but the only way is though retuning and inventing chords. Its a lot of work and I don't like working hard. Maybe I should get on of these. Looks fun too.

    -Alec

  • Hmmm Alec... very interesting! But don't give up man... hard work pays off :)

And I'm sure the Igil's not gonna be a walk in the park either... John (oddmusic) will probably attest to that! Peace :)

  • Well said, kazmag ! I'm happy that I've found this... odd, creatiove abd adorable

  • i think

    your on to something

    here!

  • your doing nice man keep it up and maybe we going to jam in the futere me with my didgeridoo or guitar and u i dont no you got enough imnstrument to get a ggood jam

  • incredible music very fusion and creative.

this is so much better then what you get on mtv these days.

    5 stars all the way.

  • Thank you very much! :)

  • i just wanna thank you....this song allways cures my hangover if i get one....im sorry if that discrases you in any way ..but its truly amazing

  • thanks, glad it helps out, no worries, it probably gives some people a headache :)

  • well those people are just down righht nutty

  • This one's amazing I have to admit! How do you learn to play these instruments!!!?? That's what's so amazing here

  • thanks blackhole, hmmm, never thought of that, just mess with them over and over until they start sounding ok, the trick is not to throw them through the window when they don't cooperate! :)

  • I second that.

  • u rock the house dude, I was finding this type of music all over the place but cant find one.

  • this reminds me of a lost night in the bowels of b'ham about 100degrees in an old apartment with peeling plaster and cars driving by about 10 floors down after a rainstorm...

....it did... ;^) another tour de brain without external chemicals! nice....

  • sounds a bit like tool :) ..... 2 words ROCK ON!

  • Once again I'm blown away man. This stuff is so awesome, do you have any CD's available?

  • I dont know how your doing what your doing but I enjoyed it very much. Thank you.

  • very cool

  • I like Albert's recent comment, and have some of his music, too. This is truly trance-like, relaxing stuff!

  • Hmmm...

Deliberate mis-tuning, Philverb? Oh, please do tell! What is the correct tuning? Enjoyable but offensive and incorrect... another hmmm...

Perhaps this is more to some's liking? No scary effects, just John playing fine igil and me singing along: (won't allow a URL, so just follow the link at khoomei dot com

I've performed several times with John, always greatly enjoy it, and look forward to next time.

    Steve Sklar

  • An enjoyable diversion, but somehow offensive because the performer is abusing the instrument by "incorrect play" and deliberate mis-tuning of this proud horse. Author, please respond.

  • yeah John.....How dare you step outside the box;-) Sounds great dude!!

  • I have my own opinions about what I'm doing, but I thought get some feedback from some Tuvan musicians.

Albert Kuvezin, a founding member of Tuva's premier throat singing group "Huun Huur Tu" and lead throatsinger and founding member of the band "Yat Kha", had this to say about the music in the comment below:

  • From Albert Kuvezin:

I like when people do experiments and have interest in new and different kinds of music and traditions. So I think everyone can do what they want and play any instrument in any way they like. It may even help to develop new music and building of new instruments as well. I think many modern contemporary instruments have appeared after such people like you have started to play their instrument in their own way.

    Keep going. --Albert
