I have spent 12 years in the army as an infantry soldier I have several combat to tours and I can tell you these guys will not survive one whole day if they try to fight the military force on force. The reason the civil war and the previous wars were so closely fought and lasted so long is the armies were so closely matched in firepower, technology, and training such is not the case anymore.

@thelegend22 most are former USM. Some are experienced trainers, some, such as special forces types, are trained specifically in training and organizing militias. In fact, much of the Libyan rebel's success is due to FID operations by the 3rd and 10th special forces groups attached to AFRICOM. key libya rebel improvised weapons, and you will see just how easy it is to construct usable; if unorthodox war machines. USASF also teaches this.

First thing is that it is called Guerrilla Warfare. Second, in this style of warfare you do ambush and surprise tactics to dwindle the enemies manpower then defeat them in a conventional full size battle after you dwindle your enemies manpower and swell your own.
@bsg1206 The only thing is that the Taliban has tried that in Afghanistan. Unfortunately they didn't do that correctly. The Army Green Beret manual states that in order to maintain an Guerrilla Warfare operation you do destroy morale but you also need to train your forces and stockpile weapons and munitions. They say to do this because eventually with warfare you have to fight a conventional battle against those forces. We did it properly in the Revolutionary War.
@LizaFoote That's part of it, but you would never ever win going head-to-head with a modern army. They are too well supplied and armed and they have incredible technology that you can't even imagine. They have loudspeakers so deafening that they don't even need to fire a shot to keep you on the ground. You would be no match for their air power alone. Creating an environment where they have to be afraid of their own shadow is the only way to defeat an occupying/governmental force.

The only thing is that you can't make a well disciplined soldier really afraid of their own shadow. See, supply lines can be cut. I strongly recommend Kelly McCann's CRUCIBLE High Risk Environment training DVD sets. They are no replacement for operations training but they WILL give you the tactics you really need on the street or if the SHTF.
Why do they where Camouflage and train in the woods? They should have normal cloths. Urban war fear is the only way to have a chance against the united states military. That would take way there large weapons. In the woods you would be dead in no times.

There is a much better chance that the militia will end up defending the countryside from starving inner city dwellers fleeing the big cities after an economic or natural disaster then they will defending a city from an invasion. Most militia members do not live in the inner city. They care about defending their homes. Then there is the issue of finding a city that would not object to having armed men blasting things with guns.

This is great as a pro-constitutional force. But as well as conventional infantry tactics, i would drill insurgent/guerilla warfare as well. That seems to be a common factor in the defeat in modern superpower militaries. Ex: Taliban vs Russia; VC vs USA; IRA vs UK, etc.

And I dont doubt the things you're telling me, I think there's a little truth to both sides of every arguement. I have given thought about being in a militia or, at some point, starting one. But for now, I'm pretty aimed at just serving my community through my local police or fire department.

Ok, I understand where these people are coming from...I think: but the reality is this is such a joke. I have spent 12 years in the army as an infantry soldier I have several combat to tours and I can tell you these guys will not survive one whole day if they try to fight the military force on force. The reason the civil war and the previous wars were so closely fought and lasted so long is the armies were so closely matched in firepower, technology, and training such is not the case anymore.

@thelegend22 most are former USM. Some are experienced trainers, some, such as special forces types, are trained specifically in training and organizing militias. In fact, much of the Libyan rebel's success is due to FID operations by the 3rd and 10th special forces groups attached to AFRICOM. key libya rebel improvised weapons, and you will see just how easy it is to construct usable; if unorthodox war machines. USASF also teaches this.

First thing is that it is called Guerrilla Warfare. Second, in this style of warfare you do ambush and surprise tactics to dwindle the enemies manpower then defeat them in a conventional full size battle after you dwindle your enemies manpower and swell your own.

@bsg1206 The only thing is that the Taliban has tried that in Afghanistan. Unfortunately they didn't do that correctly. The Army Green Beret manual states that in order to maintain an Guerrilla Warfare operation you do destroy morale but you also need to train your forces and stockpile weapons and munitions. They say to do this because eventually with warfare you have to fight a conventional battle against those forces. We did it properly in the Revolutionary War.

@LizaFoote That's part of it, but you would never ever win going head-to-head with a modern army. They are too well supplied and armed and they have incredible technology that you can't even imagine. They have loudspeakers so deafening that they don't even need to fire a shot to keep you on the ground. You would be no match for their air power alone. Creating an environment where they have to be afraid of their own shadow is the only way to defeat an occupying/governmental force.

There is a much better chance that the militia will end up defending the countryside from starving inner city dwellers fleeing the big cities after an economic or natural disaster then they will defending a city from an invasion. Most militia members do not live in the inner city. They care about defending their homes. Then there is the issue of finding a city that would not object to having armed men blasting things with guns.

Cartridge technology dates back to the Civil War, smokeless powder back to 1886, primers in the early 1800's... but can we duplicate or come up with substitutes today? This is great as a pro-constitutional force. But as well as conventional infantry tactics, i would drill insurgent/guerilla warfare as well. That seems to be a common factor in the defeat in modern superpower militaries. Ex: Taliban vs Russia; VC vs USA; IRA vs UK, etc.
I am in the North Carolina Citizen Militia myself and im proud to serve as a n auxillery on the home front here in the USA. :D

I have no problem with the concept of militias or private gun ownership, I do however object to total fucking tools.

@SmittyDamitty I have never implied to any one that I am currently a marine, I have however enrolled myself into the delayed service program only to be diagnosed with a heart condition (Regular-Irregular heartbeat) and I had made this account before finding out this information. And the National Guard in my opinion cannot be classified as a real militia, due to the fact that you're-1. In the Army 2. Can be sent overseas at any time 3.Not just regulated, but under total control of the government.

And I dont doubt the things you're telling me, I think there's a little truth to both sides of every arguement. I have given thought about being in a militia or, at some point, starting one. But for now, I'm pretty aimed at just serving my community through my local police or fire department.

However, police are extra-constitutional and given the precedents set by the Anti-Federalist and Federalist papers and the reason for the 2nd amendment, the ability of an executive branch representative to hold private citizens at gunpoint, often when the citizens are not even "legally" allowed to carry a firearm themselves is unconstitutional.
