by and by, red is the X axis,

blue is the Y axis, and green is the Z axis :)

@adamraco in this program red is X, Y is green and blue is Z. If you goto full screen and look at the bottom left of the screen you can see a representation of this. Where it actually titles the axis. Now in real 3D programs or 2D compositing applications, you are some what right where Y is the Up Axis and Z is the depth axis, but the colors are still the same as this program.

I currently design a lot of maps on hammer editor, how similar is creating a map hear to hammer?

@Dskater101 The names for things are similar, like BSP's and Static meshes etc. The way these things are implemented however are completely different. I you can understand Hammer, you should have no trouble what so ever using UDK. UDK is alot more powerful and alot mroe things can be done using it, including making stand alone games.

The reason why I am planning on moving from the hammer editor is to expand on my level design skills by creating different themes of environment.

@Dskater101 UDK comes with some assest's enough to fool aroudn with but not enough to make a unique level. You will be importing your own textures and static meshes. It is basically just a development kit, heres the tools you make the content sort of thing.

Good luck getting 'em if you're not a subscriber. If you aren't, they neuter your download speed to the point where it'll take days to download a 489.9 MB file.

You can get it with a free subscription, all files there requires you to make a free account (no different than needing one to post comments on youtube). You havent used fileplanet have you? I get speeds of around 200kb-2mb per second. I downloaded the videos i referenced in under 30 minutes. Please speak truthful things next time, not wrong assumptions.

I have an account. They still throttle my connection. You need a paid subscription if you want a reasonable download speed.

That is incorrect, perhaps your computer has some problematic or old hardware. I regularly download from fileplanet with a free subscription. My download speeds reach up to 2mb a second. Did you try using the file planet download manager? also do you pick the right location? Make sure you are always picking the server closest to you, either east or west coast. The only real thing a paid sub does is get you out of wait lines if any exists.

Not true, many countries have access to file planet. Also anyone using one of the many proxy/anon websites can download anything from file planet. Just do a search for web proxy in google, then insert the fileplanet url into the box they provide.

@j3nningz54 There's a free version of the editor. It's called Unreal Developement Kit (UDK). You can download it from the main site. It's nearly 500 Mb and it doesn't include all the features od the UT3 ED, but it's the best you can find for free, without buying the game.

Yea you will probably have to unsintall, i dont recall it asking if u want the editor installed though but i did it a while back.

Well im not sure of the minimum requirments you could easily research it on google but personally im running. a 2.0 Gz quad processor with 4 gigs of ram and a pretty good NVidia Gforce card.You may not need ALLL that but it couldnt hurt.
