I am considering buying a Caterham in the future and I am kind of worried about what Tiff is saying. Are the "superlight" models R300>R500 really that uncomfortable? I'd rather be a bit uncomfortable and have a really sharp and responsive driving package. And are the superlight models all road legal? Tiff always makes me laugh as he fumbles about @4:32 he nearly hits the door as an innocent person is just exiting the building.
It doesn't take an ex-Formula 1 driver to make such a review. Better watch (for example) Tiff Needell's or Tim Harvey's tests of the Rouse RS 500 Sierra.
@AndrewandDebbie No, that's not what I meant... The chassis tube is the same irrespective of whether a door is fitted or not..... and it's the height of it that is the problem. It's right in elbow position.... & yes I do have a Caterham.

The 175 comes with doors, which they took off for some reason. In this car you can see the catch for the optional armrests that fit on the doors... so it's not really the cars fault he has a sore arm. Otherwise, an ok review from Fifth Gear. For a change!
The 2009 Caterhams also have the exhaust manifold on the passenger side... sucks to be the passenger, but the problem is partly solved. And it's not that hard to add a cubbyhole, so almost all of his arguments are rendered ineffective. The best sports car for the money? Probably.
@gromit37 it was TERRIBLE and i LOVE 5th Gear. Its sad as f*ck that stupid TIff cant properly review the car and try to appreciate it for what it is...even reviews that took Caterhams thru traffic have said that its still a lot of fun, if a bit tiring. Fail!

It is difficult to describe just how crude a Caterham feels and looks when you drive one.
There is a joy to simplicity of design however the noise, discomfort and general lack of attention to detail spoiled the experience for me.
In comparison, the old Exige S seemed forty years down the line in light sportscar evolution.

very raw indeed, just like a wheel barrow

They won't sell many on the back of this review.... very poor.
He's right about the elbow and foot though, but on track it becomes irrelevant.

@StukaUK Roadsport SV's come with arm rests as standard equipment. If they had left the side screens on, he wouldn't have hit his elbow on the frame.

Couldn't give a toss what anyone says; 7's are where it's at. They're chock full of charisma and brilliant little driving machines.

How boring can you make a car review?

I should think someone considering buying a caterham is not expecting an interior like a rolls royce.

Oh my good lord. This just proves (as if proof was needed) the brilliance of Evo Magazine's reviews, specially Chris Harris'!

Its only on the passenger side if its a left hand drive car, ie American which i assume you are?
Although he says his left foot is roasting hot...his right foot is closer to the manifold. lol
