Haha, so true of contemporary art. I'm an illustration major in art school and I run into this sort of thing all the time. They do deep and meaningful things like push sand into a pile or glue hair on a canvas...meanwhile, I just want to illustrate a story.
If you had tutors who thought that was genuine (and I find it hard to believe they honestly did) then you clearly attend a sub-standard college. You aren't 'taking the piss' out of anyone, ironically this is what real conceptual art often intends to do. You appear to have read (probably) a wikipedia article on conceptual, art and are regurgitating your simplistic understanding of it.
