Loved watching this. Certainly better than watching the transexual inspired anime garbage that someone or thing has been posting as of late. Thanks for posting.
Steve Martin Caro, the lead singer, originally went by the name of Steve Martin, but later added his real last name, Caro, when the comic Steve Martin's career took off, and to honor his family's ancestors from Spain. Steve Martin Caro's real name is Carmelo Esteban Martin Caro. His mother, Sarita Heredia, was a flamenco guitarist and singer, and his father, Pedro Martin Caro was a representative for bullfighters.
I would appreciate it very much if you would tell me which video has Richard Brand? He was a classmate of mine in high school (didn"t know him then or now) but I would like to see him in action.
@sciencite This video has Richard Brand on guitar. Thats him with the blue jacket standing next to singer Steve. Rick is on our left. He has the Peter Tork hair cut. kind of looks like him too.
Hey, lots of people are asking this! This song still sticks in my head when i hear it, and my wife's, who plays the flute learned the instrumental on this song to my keyboard chords efforts. Dang if we aren't wondering why iTunes doesn't have the LEFT BANKE's hit songs, such as Walk Away Renee and Pretty Ballerina. What's with that?
No idea. I think sometimes when there are so many versions of the same songs it tends to get lost. But this is a classic, and I hope they will add it to the Itunes list. Its strange because this is a very hard song to find. I haven't even been able to find a soundtrack with this version on it.
You can find "Walk Away Renee" in Amazon's MP3 store. You can also find their entire catalog (two albums + singles -- 26 tracks) on one collection ("There's Gonna Be a Storm") in the Amazon MP3 store for a great price! "Walk Away Renee" also appears on the CD "Hard to Find 45s on CD, Volume 6: More 60's Classics" on the Eric label, again available on Amazon.
I'm a 23 year old male, and I think oldies is pretty awesome. I happen to like this song. Walk Away Renee, along with many other oldies songs, makes you feel like your living the 60s. If people are still listening to this group in 2008, the artists must be doing something right and are an icon in music.
not really sure what you mean or perhaps like many on here you're trying to be a wiseass. Many have gotten it, that this group and much of the music of the mid 60's is somehow still trancendant and lovely thanks younger folks you're getting it
they warmed up at the end of their brillant career in Peekskill NY with the motherfuckers themselver the MC5 in June 1969 in a former bowling alley. Yes I remember it I was 14 it was unforgettable
When dreams anoint reality even if based in fantasy. This is when the angels guide the hands of the Micheal Brown's. At once, we love our Renee's indeed. Of course, the spiritual vibration demands physical interpretation Thusly, Steve Martin. Renee never walks away. No, Renee sweetly haunts.
I used to drink with three of them at a Carmel NY bar called Smallie's. They were living and jamming at a rental up there Summer 1978. I was a newspaper reporter for the Reporter Dispatch. We put two of their single on the jukebox thanks to Tony the owner of the joint. You need to get into reality man, they were all wonder guys as I recall trying for a comeback
As I recalled that Summer I was working as a young freshly minted reporter from the local rag across the street from Smallie's/Carmel, NY and they were struggling to get a record deal after many yrs laying off. Thanks for the kind words you seem like a true fan and person too. The intro to Desiree wafting from the juke and looking at the three/five of them was priceless, and emotional at the same time, bless them
Was this, in fact, the original version of the song? "Walk Away Renee" was sung by so many people that it's difficult to know where the credit is due. If Left Banke did it first, when was it released? Chart success?
I saw this band at a club in Algonquin, IL. They performed Walk Away Renee among other songs. I can't remember the name of the club or the exact date. Yep, it was that long ago :-)
The guys shooting this video must have been told to keep the camera up...the opening shots have a good eight inches to film. My wife loves the singer.
I'm actually a big fan of "She may Call you Up Tonight", but I agree.. the second Lp has some good moments..(I didn't even know of it's existence until I found a DJ copy in 1972/3)
Always great to hear..I know that these guys are lip sinking, but it sounds like a different mix that the single..the back gound singing is a tad pit louder. Nice..RS45
My all time favourite band, how they never become a great big success is beyond me!

what a strange world music has created....
If anyone should have received trophies, honors, and credits for an incredible song,
the Left Banke should of....instead they were ripped like so many others...

they were great...!

Quite true, Billykkutter, there were so many individuals and bands that got ripped off by managers and studios....very terrible.
