  • My all time favourite band, how they never become a great big success is beyond me!

  • Love this song! :)

  • Steve Martin was the singer. Michael Brown the composer was on keyboards.

  • Is the singer Paul´s twin brother or a clon? :-o

  • I'm 17. This is the stuff I grew up on. I love it. I wish I were born into this era.

  • Loved watching this. Certainly better than watching the transexual inspired anime garbage that someone or thing has been posting as of late. Thanks for posting.

  • the club in Algonquin was probably the New Place

  • Baroque pop! This song is lovely.

  • gran canción, un acierto este post!

  • haha its funny i have the same video

  • I met Tony Sansone back in 1967, in the Bronx, after he wrote Walk Away Rene. This song has alot of memories for me.

  • It's an Awesome tune..cheers..

  • Jaybird-Well Done!..If you can't dance with a pretty lady with tune..It's all reenlistment.

    and that's not bad..cool.

  • Steve Martin Caro, the lead singer, originally went by the name of Steve Martin, but later added his real last name, Caro, when the comic Steve Martin's career took off, and to honor his family's ancestors from Spain. Steve Martin Caro's real name is Carmelo Esteban Martin Caro. His mother, Sarita Heredia, was a flamenco guitarist and singer, and his father, Pedro Martin Caro was a representative for bullfighters.

  • interesante información amigo, muchas gracias; excelente canción esta y en menos de 2 minutos!!!; saludos fron spain

  • one of the best under 2 minutes songs around !!

  • what a strange world music has created....

If anyone should have received trophies, honors, and credits for an incredible song,

the Left Banke should of....instead they were ripped like so many others...

  • they were great...!

  • Quite true, Billykkutter, there were so many individuals and bands that got ripped off by managers and studios....very terrible.

  • I've always loved this song but I have to admit I've never understood more than 11 words of it. Still, really cool.

  • I would appreciate it very much if you would tell me which video has Richard Brand? He was a classmate of mine in high school (didn"t know him then or now) but I would like to see him in action.

  • Yes,Winfield replaced by Rick Brand on guitar in 1967.

  • @sciencite This video has Richard Brand on guitar. Thats him with the blue jacket standing next to singer Steve. Rick is on our left. He has the Peter Tork hair cut. kind of looks like him too.

  • The word 'nice' sums this all up and I am not being sarcastic. VERY pleasant.

  • What's with the Twin Towers pic? That was completed in 1973 and this song is from 1966!

  • this "video" wasn't made the year the song was released. hope the anachronism didn't ruin it for you.

  • I'd like to see "Evening Gown" put to a video. I love this.

  • Beautiful song. A classic.

  • beautiful song.......... thanks

  • Stone cold classic .

  • incredible, sad, haunting song. but like most 60s videos, this one was lip-synched.

  • omg he looks like paul 67 on new paul

  • One of Rolling Stones Top 500 Songs of all time....my problem is I can't find it on line or in the stores to throw on my IPod...

  • Hey, lots of people are asking this! This song still sticks in my head when i hear it, and my wife's, who plays the flute learned the instrumental on this song to my keyboard chords efforts. Dang if we aren't wondering why iTunes doesn't have the LEFT BANKE's hit songs, such as Walk Away Renee and Pretty Ballerina. What's with that?

  • No idea. I think sometimes when there are so many versions of the same songs it tends to get lost. But this is a classic, and I hope they will add it to the Itunes list. Its strange because this is a very hard song to find. I haven't even been able to find a soundtrack with this version on it.

  • You can find "Walk Away Renee" in Amazon's MP3 store. You can also find their entire catalog (two albums + singles -- 26 tracks) on one collection ("There's Gonna Be a Storm") in the Amazon MP3 store for a great price! "Walk Away Renee" also appears on the CD "Hard to Find 45s on CD, Volume 6: More 60's Classics" on the Eric label, again available on Amazon.

  • these talented young blocs have a bright future ahead of them.lovely song

  • One of the most beautiful pop songs of the 60's along with another of my favorites "Pretty Ballerina". Thanks for posting this rare clip!

  • sixties pop at its loveliest.

And the chamber instruments are so rock and roll.

  • Absolutely my favourite version of this song.

  • I'm a 23 year old male, and I think oldies is pretty awesome. I happen to like this song. Walk Away Renee, along with many other oldies songs, makes you feel like your living the 60s. If people are still listening to this group in 2008, the artists must be doing something right and are an icon in music.

  • They were so young. I love them

  • hey Hoctor, how many hits did you write and perform- and/or my bad

  • not really sure what you mean or perhaps like many on here you're trying to be a wiseass. Many have gotten it, that this group and much of the music of the mid 60's is somehow still trancendant and lovely thanks younger folks you're getting it

  • they warmed up at the end of their brillant career in Peekskill NY with the motherfuckers themselver the MC5 in June 1969 in a former bowling alley. Yes I remember it I was 14 it was unforgettable

  • When dreams anoint reality even if based in fantasy. This is when the angels guide the hands of the Micheal Brown's. At once, we love our Renee's indeed. Of course, the spiritual vibration demands physical interpretation Thusly, Steve Martin. Renee never walks away. No, Renee sweetly haunts.

  • I used to drink with three of them at a Carmel NY bar called Smallie's. They were living and jamming at a rental up there Summer 1978. I was a newspaper reporter for the Reporter Dispatch. We put two of their single on the jukebox thanks to Tony the owner of the joint. You need to get into reality man, they were all wonder guys as I recall trying for a comeback

  • I love that story ... so evocative ...Smallie's, the jukebox, Tony, The band still hanging in there, in '78 ... wish I'd been there!

  • As I recalled that Summer I was working as a young freshly minted reporter from the local rag across the street from Smallie's/Carmel, NY and they were struggling to get a record deal after many yrs laying off. Thanks for the kind words you seem like a true fan and person too. The intro to Desiree wafting from the juke and looking at the three/five of them was priceless, and emotional at the same time, bless them

  • I am not at all sure what your comment means, but for some reason I like it very much. Very poetic!

  • What an effing classic!

  • If this video was made in 1966 then whats with the twin towers in the beginning? They were just starting to build them in 66'..

  • Dig the Beatle haircut on Steve Martin Caro! But why is he slapping his thigh to the music? Looks dumb. Stop it, Steve! Ooops... it's 40 years ago.

  • Looks like scott baio

  • How hot is the lead vocalist in Left Banke?!

  • VERY HOTT! I had a major crush on him when I was about 13 years old.

I wish he would put a band together and go out on tour.Older bands do it all the time.Come on, Steve, consider it.

  • I have some songs that Steve did with LB keyboardist Mike Brown in 2001 if you want to download them. leftbanke(dot)nu

  • MAJOR HOT!!! YUMMY!

  • Hes nice looking!!! thats for sure! For 1968!! OH YEAH!

  • I love this version the best. The Four tops also do this, but it is not as nice.

  • This is the original artist.Early 60's.Great stuff! Thanks!

  • Was this, in fact, the original version of the song? "Walk Away Renee" was sung by so many people that it's difficult to know where the credit is due. If Left Banke did it first, when was it released? Chart success?

  • it was released in 1967. it hit number 5 on the charts

  • I saw this band at a club in Algonquin, IL. They performed Walk Away Renee among other songs. I can't remember the name of the club or the exact date. Yep, it was that long ago :-)

  • @ohimundaunted

    It was the New Place

Lots of top bands played there in the late 60's

  • I was 13 years old when I heard this song, now I know the singer is a man

  • see,you do learn something on you tube!

  • Beautiful, simply beautiful. I love the quick shot of the twin towers at the begining.

  • A perfect song...love it...listen to the covers like Linda Ronstadt and Ann Savoy...Wonderful!!!

  • This Left Banke video is from the Larry Kane show in Texas, circa 1967.

  • Pocket full of Renee

  • remember this tune I think it was a breakup song in high school wow

  • The guys shooting this video must have been told to keep the camera up...the opening shots have a good eight inches to film. My wife loves the singer.

  • i think desiree is their greatest record, but almost every song they made was top notch. their 2nd album "left banke too" is an underrated gem.

  • I'm actually a big fan of "She may Call you Up Tonight", but I agree.. the second Lp has some good moments..(I didn't even know of it's existence until I found a DJ copy in 1972/3)

  • Nice video, but where are the harpsichord, flute and violin?

  • Always great to hear..I know that these guys are lip sinking, but it sounds like a different mix that the single..the back gound singing is a tad pit louder. Nice..RS45

  • wow-what a great band....wonder if a clip exists for "pretty ballerina"?

  • I wasn't aware the twin towers existed in '66.Wow.

  • 3 May 2007: The World Trade Center was under construction in 1968, opened in 1972.

  • never of them before, sorry! Their music is special though...

  • GarPete@

Never thought i would hear this again, lots of memorys here!!

  • This group made some really awesome songs! This is one of my favorites! The left banke is amazing!
