  • True! In natural aging, the loss of muscle volume isn't as great as the loss of fat and collagen.

But by doing "unnatural" facial RESISTANCE exercise I've been able to widen my upper face (by building up cheekbones + temples), and sharpening my jawline. (A new Triangle of Youth.) But this is a difficult & daily regimen. It must be RESISTANCE weight-bearing exercise. Perricone is wrong. You can't do it with just electrical stimulation. But the hollowness around the eyes still needs filler help.

  • Don't forget loss of muscle tone. The youthful face has a tight tone look... along with increased volume.

  • Muscle tone of the face is interesting. We used to think that the facial muscles become lax as we age but newer evidence is showing that this is not the case. Facial muscles retain their size as we age.

In fact, our faces look smoother -- firmer, if you will -- when we use botox to relax the muscles.

Restoring facial volume and improving skin tone and texture have been shown to have a much greater impact on the apparent age of the face.

  • And oh yes... I like your Table Cloth analogy. (The "Sculptra King" Dr. Danny Vleggaar also uses this one.)

Building up the volume BELOW the skin is what's truly crucial for a youthful look.

At a distance of fifty feet, it's easy to tell the difference between a 20-year-old and a 50-year-old... even though you can't see fine lines at that distance. It's all about the volume, shape and contours of the face.
