Please tell me that the 912 project in texas does NOT fall for Palin and Glenn Beck... they have tried to commandeer the movement that Ron Paul started in 2007.
Doesn't matter who started it, we don't need another Ross Perot.
The Republican Party has always been the conservative party. They have stood for limited government, a strong military and fiscal responsibility for more than 150 years.
Reaching out to the left and putting Rhinos in office is what got us in trouble, and taking back the Republican party with conservative leadership is what's going to get us out of this mess.
... and just for the record (on a side rant)... Ross Perot was partly responsible for heaping the Clinton Administration on us which ultimately set the stage for the housing market crash. Poor fiscal policy (bailing out banks) and forcing lenders to make bad loans turned a booming Reagan economy around to what we have today.
Don't forget, fiscal policy can take 8-16 years to boil up and bubble over. Elections have consequences my friend, both in the short run and in the long run.
Cloud, as for me, I don't care if the Republicans want to jump on the bandwagon of the tea party movement. I believe the Republican party knows it needs to change and are making the effort. I see that within the party ... I think they are much more able to say yes we made mistakes and we will change ... whereas I never see democrats say that.
pullin at threads here. Hard pressed to make a connection. Nice try, using God to mask this idiocy. The right obviously comes from the people giving to the elected officals. ie gov.
Whether you subscribe to a particular deity or not, arguing that the rights of man come from their elected officials (especially in a democratic republic) and are not inalienable... is a very dangerous argument.
That's where you're wrong. I'm not saying that any one religious book or laws should trump the constitution... but to suggest that your rights are granted to you by other men is absolutely dangerous. Period. You are surrendering yourself to the most tyrannical of men if you do that.
In order for your rights to be inalienable, they have to be granted by some form of higher power. For you, that higher power may be the toaster for all I care, but in any case, you need to understand that your rights are yours and not other's to grant to you.
@2DumbKidsVideo , we grant others AUTHORITY when we elect them into office. Authority = given power, Tyranny = power taken. Through elections, impeachment, and the checks and balances this authority is justified. I would suggest not using the idea of tyranny here because by definition it is incorrect. Also, divinity has been used to promote tyranny, like theocracies of past.
You're missing the point. Tyranny absolutely belongs in this conversation. Suggesting that your rights are granted to you at birth by the current elected officials and citizens of this country, is absolutely wrong... and by doing so you are putting yourself at the mercy of a potential tyrannical dictatorship.
It's like leaving your car windows down in a bad neighborhood with the keys in the ignition and blaming the thief for stealing your car.
We're not talking about law, we're talking about inalienable rights. Not what the government can do to / for you, but what they can't do to / for you.
"Tyrannical" or tyranny, = "Power that is taken by force" I did not see any of our officials get into office by force. Thus, they are not tyrannical. So refrain from that word. By voting you are affording the elected the right to represent you and your interests. If you disagree, be political active and get change. You are relating a thief to the gov?
I'm not suggesting that any of our leaders are tyrannical dictators... We are talking about the role of religion in government. I am suggesting that your inalienable rights (life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness) are not granted by man and the consequence of believing that they are is dangerous.
I think we're having 2 different conversations here. I get your point, but I don't think that you get mine.
@amriemer : Not only that they can be removed, but that you are acknowledging that other men have the power to remove them. I realize that this is more of an ideological disagreement but I believe that it's an important one.
@amriemer I remember the GOP convention not too long ago where brat students and teenagers and twenty-somethings donned handkerchiefs around their faces and damaged store fronts, cars, and rioted. And at the Democratic convention, there was none of that. So get real.

Why vote for someone who believes in 90% of your ideals that can't win when you can vote for someone who holds 85% of your ideals that CAN win?

And the argument that religion should be involved in government at all, is even more dangerous.

Oh no, dangerous riotous crowds! Not like those democrat students who vandalized storefronts during Bush's last GOP convention. Sigh.

@Tripo1iSamson, a bunch of old white dudes, dangerous crowd. They're prolly more worried about their social security than rioting.
