@Filebackup as much as i agree with your push/pull comment I have to say your other one is very shallow minded...."..if you cant pass a 6G your just a dumb ole wire burner and you best stick to........ fixing lawn mower decks"....Ive been a welder for quite a few years and have never passed a 6g test. I have friends who build cars/trucks from scratch and have never passed a 6g. Maybe that 6g defines your industry/world but not everyones.
@autuben22......being a welder and left handed I'd say your a jackass. Ever bought a miller welder??? watch the little welding 101 dvd in it. explains sometimes you push, sometimes you pull. But go ahead and tell an inspector it felt "more natural and proper" see if he passes you.
According to the info this guy has 30 years experience. Then why is he welding like an idiot? The magnetic field he talks about, in my experience can be over come with higher temp, or a more solid ground.
if you cannot weld vertically up hill with hardwire or flux core than you are no welder what so ever...period! if you cant do that then you have no hope of passing a 6G pipe test....if you cant pass a 6G your just a dumb ole wire burner and you best stick to tacking bolts on to brackets or fixing lawn mower decks
anyone that say you have to push or pull is an idiot!!! you can do either it does not matter...i usually do both depending on the position im in when im welding..the only thing you can NOT do is weld down hill on a vertical seam..you can get away with it with hard wire but an absolute no-no with flux core---if you weld vertically down with flux it will break every single time because your just trapping slag in the weld.
either that machine's heat or wire speed is off adjustment or he should try cleaning that piece of steel up a little because that machine sounds like crap!!!
just bought my first MIG welder today, and need all the basic knowledge I can get. So regardless of the comments on your equipment, noise etc.. Thank you!
@kringle02 That's the CC (close captioning) function, for some reason it gets turned on by default sometimes, you need to click the "CC" button on the bottom of the video screen and it'll go away.
who the heck teaches a beginner to use a maginet when welding?? okay maybe this guy needs some pointers on giving pointers..first No maginets.if u want a strong weld..and u always tack the opposite side your welding on Not the side your laying the bead on.lol.. so the pieces dont pull in on you..and for you kids below..you push with a mig welder.wether its from the left side or right side you always push..and pull with stick..i am certified and went to college for this field..
@thecumgusher you pull with mma (stick welder),push with mig at an angle so you can see your puddle as you're progressing.college basics really.i always weave my welds like a c/half moon which gives a really neat weld and a good penetration :-)
i dont know what college you was taught at but i was taught in the army and have my full quallifications.i was taught to push right to left with MIG and left to right pull with stick.college basics.i've been welding for over 10 years!!
haha im an apprentice boilermaker im 8 months in, i preferably weld left to right thats just wats more comfortable for me but now if i need to i can do ether way easily ;D
You obviously dont know much about welding! Im 17 only been doing it 2 days and even i know that if you hold the torch around 70 degrees to the right you GO FROM RIGHT TO LEFT!
That would end with perfect 90° and start by tacking at maybe 92°. The weld will pull pieces together, so you have to consider that *before* and not *after* by hammering to fit.
hey disndat whats it to you, maybe sompeople try to make an honest living outta welding, and they see an ametuer trying to teach someone to be a professional welder and they can laugh about it dont be stuck up ur own hole
When did he claim to be teaching 'someone to be a professional'? You argue like a woman! If you can do better post a video and TEACH ,instead of posting worth less remarks.
he wants to burn the fucking place down man look at all that shit everywhere, also a little less heat and a little more wire speed fuck u can hear the wire burnin bfor it heats the metal oh yeah buy a bloody mask those one hand one r a bitch
ur a bad welder, and u shud be using an arc welder, nd magnets, put an off cut of an angle in a vice nd grip the plates to the back of it, im only 18 from ireland nd my granfather was an ironwrker in chigago and he taut me everything he knows, bout welding nd im welding since i was 10, nd ur no weld yet alone a teacher. we have a pickhill bantam oil cooled welder, not a fkin solderin iron like u have
nobody shud make excuses for his poor welding im 17 n i use a hand mask n believe me its better dan dat n the welder runing shit is not down to the magnetic field y wud dat matter its down to the retard holding the lance n yes for u hobby welders its not called a gun a trigger a handle n watever else u call it its called a lance
the weld looks like shit and he's pulling a fucking MIG gun?!? unless I'm an idiot and the CWI who taught at the tech school i graduated from this guy is flying by the seat of his pants and showing how to do something completly wrong
LMFAO. just the sound of the welder made me laugh . this guy dont know shit. from the sounds of the welder definetly sounds like its set too cold. and that shitty ass weld he shows i could break with a hammer.
"the sounds of the welder definetly sounds like its set too cold." maybe you should get your facts straight before criticizing him; bear in mind his gear is far from top notch and he's welding one handed.
You can teach alot with that little gismo, ok it wont spit out big a-values but if you can weld with that. you can weld with a high end machine as well.(well u might spend a tiny bit of time getting used to different machines but that's always the case anyway) I for one am pleased with these vid's reaching youtube.
Wow. You people are too critical of something that is obviously meant to be just a little bit of info for beginners. He probably has the face shield instead of a helmet so he can set it down and talk comfortably to the camera. I'd like to see a video response of anything better from you shit talkers.
Out of every piece of advice I have ever got about buying a welder the most I heard was dont skimp on a welder. Save a little longer and get a decent welder or buy a good used one. You arent doing yourself any favors you will be throwing that $250 away when it needs to be replaced in one month.
idiot, magnetic field affecting welder? No way a magnet has enough power for that, he just got a bad start and made some crap up on the fly to cover himself. Of course it welded better the second time, it actually was grounded. First attempt, he tried starting the weld on the piece held by the magnet which wasn't well contected electricly to the base piece so it spit and sputtered.
Come on guys, give the ol bloke a go, he is trying to show begginers the basics of welding, for all you know he may have a cheap welder but a large knowledge!

Hello Mike Rodges,
How you did not explain the welding technique of the two plates by holding the gun.
How do you weld two pieces of metal to weld the two plates together? what about showing all of us how the gun should start weld in a direction?

spenny you are mistaken, backhand produces more build up ur right however build up doesnt mean strength if u go forehand it allows u to direct more heat therefore more penetration and less build up
