  • What if you're welding stainless? Can't use a magnet then, smarty-pants.

  • "earthing clamp" british lol

  • @Filebackup as much as i agree with your push/pull comment I have to say your other one is very shallow minded...."..if you cant pass a 6G your just a dumb ole wire burner and you best stick to........ fixing lawn mower decks"....Ive been a welder for quite a few years and have never passed a 6g test. I have friends who build cars/trucks from scratch and have never passed a 6g. Maybe that 6g defines your industry/world but not everyones.

  • @autuben22......being a welder and left handed I'd say your a jackass. Ever bought a miller welder??? watch the little welding 101 dvd in it. explains sometimes you push, sometimes you pull. But go ahead and tell an inspector it felt "more natural and proper" see if he passes you.

  • its more natural and propper to pull most ppl would pull as a basic instinct so pushers are as useles as left handed ppl

  • According to the info this guy has 30 years experience. Then why is he welding like an idiot? The magnetic field he talks about, in my experience can be over come with higher temp, or a more solid ground.

  • how are you supposed to learn anything if you cant see what his doing

get a close up view with a sheld on the camera!

  • if you cannot weld vertically up hill with hardwire or flux core than you are no welder what so ever...period! if you cant do that then you have no hope of passing a 6G pipe test....if you cant pass a 6G your just a dumb ole wire burner and you best stick to tacking bolts on to brackets or fixing lawn mower decks

  • anyone that say you have to push or pull is an idiot!!! you can do either it does not matter...i usually do both depending on the position im in when im welding..the only thing you can NOT do is weld down hill on a vertical seam..you can get away with it with hard wire but an absolute no-no with flux core---if you weld vertically down with flux it will break every single time because your just trapping slag in the weld.

  • either that machine's heat or wire speed is off adjustment or he should try cleaning that piece of steel up a little because that machine sounds like crap!!!

  • Thanks Mike,

just bought my first MIG welder today, and need all the basic knowledge I can get. So regardless of the comments on your equipment, noise etc.. Thank you!

  • did you go straight or up and down with it to be a little tighter weld

  • Thanks! I had not thought of using a magnet. Very cool and uber simple. Always the best of both worlds.

  • The Earthing clamp = Ground .

  • thanks iam in college right now trying to learn the trait just wonderin what to look for

  • how do you watch with all the words on the screen useless video

  • @kringle02 That's the CC (close captioning) function, for some reason it gets turned on by default sometimes, you need to click the "CC" button on the bottom of the video screen and it'll go away.

  • ur going to burning holes in your winter jacket man wear a leater jacket

  • thank you

  • what a wanker

  • who the heck teaches a beginner to use a maginet when welding?? okay maybe this guy needs some pointers on giving pointers..first No maginets.if u want a strong weld..and u always tack the opposite side your welding on Not the side your laying the bead on.lol.. so the pieces dont pull in on you..and for you kids below..you push with a mig welder.wether its from the left side or right side you always push..and pull with stick..i am certified and went to college for this field..

  • Thank you for your time and trouble to make this video. I appreciate the help.

  • did anyone notice all the paper products above the work station? can you say fire

  • his welder sounds way outta tune.

  • PREP PREP PREP !!! the metal is not clean. take a damn grinder to it first.

  • i b et thats not 45 degree angle lol he didnt have anything to stop it pulling down?

  • sorry but that was crap ! iam learning mig welding only been doin it a cuple of weeks n a can do better then that.

  • push mig away from your body

    pull arc towards your body

  • @mrjihad91 if you push a mig weld , how then do u see your puddle , no puddle no weld. and plus you cant see where u r placing your bead evenly

  • @thecumgusher you pull with mma (stick welder),push with mig at an angle so you can see your puddle as you're progressing.college basics really.i always weave my welds like a c/half moon which gives a really neat weld and a good penetration :-)

  • @furey2310 You Push with stick, you just simply step out first, college basics

  • @basssteve1 ERR no!!

i dont know what college you was taught at but i was taught in the army and have my full quallifications.i was taught to push right to left with MIG and left to right pull with stick.college basics.i've been welding for over 10 years!!

  • With Mig or wire welding you can either pull it or push it

  • No you cant pull if you want to do it right

  • haha im an apprentice boilermaker im 8 months in, i preferably weld left to right thats just wats more comfortable for me but now if i need to i can do ether way easily ;D

  • at least he has gloves on in this video. . . oh my godddd

  • NEW VIDEO NEW *how not to mig weld* !!!

  • should be how NOT to mig weld, should be welding right to left with the torch in that position !

  • You obviously dont know much about welding! Im 17 only been doing it 2 days and even i know that if you hold the torch around 70 degrees to the right you GO FROM RIGHT TO LEFT!

  • Perfect angled joint?

That would end with perfect 90° and start by tacking at maybe 92°. The weld will pull pieces together, so you have to consider that *before* and not *after* by hammering to fit.

  • Just a general question.

Why are all the welding videos filled with illiterate trash who can not write a sentence without 10 mistakes?

That's one, here's another. NO ONE gives a shit about how young you are and how long you've been welding and how good you THINK you are.

  • hey disndat whats it to you, maybe sompeople try to make an honest living outta welding, and they see an ametuer trying to teach someone to be a professional welder and they can laugh about it dont be stuck up ur own hole

  • mrjihad91

When did he claim to be teaching 'someone to be a professional'? You argue like a woman! If you can do better post a video and TEACH ,instead of posting worth less remarks.

    Have a good day.

    With regards from Iran

  • argue like a woman if you said that to my face you would wake up with a crowd around you.

and if you not taut right at welding how do u expect to ever achieve a high standard

  • Key board tough talker!

  • whos the one that probably nevr put a bead of weld on in ur life, U

  • OK man, you go ahead and have the last bark. I'm outta here. Easy.

  • Expert Village? More like, Hobo Village.

  • he wants to burn the fucking place down man look at all that shit everywhere, also a little less heat and a little more wire speed fuck u can hear the wire burnin bfor it heats the metal oh yeah buy a bloody mask those one hand one r a bitch

  • ask a welding engineering technician anything......reply to this...

    this is not expert lol

  • what a bunch of jerks here... i thought magnet was a good idea

  • this guy has just arrived here from planet " wankweld ". If this guy ever went to work at a fabrication shop he would be laughed out of the place.

    what a tosser

  • Welding?? Fuck off, more like..... cant be arsed to comment you Joker.

  • ur a bad welder, and u shud be using an arc welder, nd magnets, put an off cut of an angle in a vice nd grip the plates to the back of it, im only 18 from ireland nd my granfather was an ironwrker in chigago and he taut me everything he knows, bout welding nd im welding since i was 10, nd ur no weld yet alone a teacher. we have a pickhill bantam oil cooled welder, not a fkin solderin iron like u have

  • mrjihad91

YOu're too stupid to argue with.

Why did you drop out of school? Did you think welding will save you?

  • Haha, he pulled the torch! And hes trying to teach? Oh and jobbly. . . ur a tosser. . lance. . lol.

  • nobody shud make excuses for his poor welding im 17 n i use a hand mask n believe me its better dan dat n the welder runing shit is not down to the magnetic field y wud dat matter its down to the retard holding the lance n yes for u hobby welders its not called a gun a trigger a handle n watever else u call it its called a lance

  • Anyone beginning to weld should not look for tips or tuition from this video! What a pile!

  • the weld looks like shit and he's pulling a fucking MIG gun?!? unless I'm an idiot and the CWI who taught at the tech school i graduated from this guy is flying by the seat of his pants and showing how to do something completly wrong

    dumbass brit

  • and maybe u should shut the hell up.

  • LMFAO. just the sound of the welder made me laugh . this guy dont know shit. from the sounds of the welder definetly sounds like its set too cold. and that shitty ass weld he shows i could break with a hammer.

  • "the sounds of the welder definetly sounds like its set too cold." maybe you should get your facts straight before criticizing him; bear in mind his gear is far from top notch and he's welding one handed.

  • exactly...which is why he probably shouldnt be teaching this. This isnt the proper way of doing the job.

  • You can teach alot with that little gismo, ok it wont spit out big a-values but if you can weld with that. you can weld with a high end machine as well.(well u might spend a tiny bit of time getting used to different machines but that's always the case anyway) I for one am pleased with these vid's reaching youtube.

  • dont know what bacon he cooks in the morning but that dont sound right!

  • Wow. You people are too critical of something that is obviously meant to be just a little bit of info for beginners. He probably has the face shield instead of a helmet so he can set it down and talk comfortably to the camera. I'd like to see a video response of anything better from you shit talkers.

  • These are good for people that are beginner welders. I like watching these while I'm saving money for a mig welder. Just so that

I can be ready when I can get one.

The one that I'm looking into is not a very good one, but I figure that it would be a good enough to learn with for about $250.

  • Out of every piece of advice I have ever got about buying a welder the most I heard was dont skimp on a welder. Save a little longer and get a decent welder or buy a good used one. You arent doing yourself any favors you will be throwing that $250 away when it needs to be replaced in one month.

  • no offence sir, but just by hearing you (weld) already told me it was crap. learn to weld. and stop posting fail welds. start retiring.

  • why doesnt he buy a welding helmet, you should keep both hands on the handle at all time

  • Crap weld that, for a start he's got the set turned up to high and second the wire feed is to slow thats why it sounds aload of crap.

  • Do u call that guy a welder? OMG

    Now i know i´m a fucking genious

Mig is so damn basic,go learn some really shit

  • idiot, magnetic field affecting welder? No way a magnet has enough power for that, he just got a bad start and made some crap up on the fly to cover himself. Of course it welded better the second time, it actually was grounded. First attempt, he tried starting the weld on the piece held by the magnet which wasn't well contected electricly to the base piece so it spit and sputtered.

  • You are one dumb monkey!

  • good advice just wondered tho do you have a weve the weld?? please help me guys iam just started learning?

  • Come on guys, give the ol bloke a go, he is trying to show begginers the basics of welding, for all you know he may have a cheap welder but a large knowledge!

  • not much love here...

  • that welder sounds like shit

  • your both pretty dumb, first using hand mask big deal lots of people use them as well as weld with one hand, second the magnet was used to keep the plates at a perfect 90 degree, and the welder was reacting that way because of to polarity of the magnets, it sounded better when the magnets were taken away, and he must know what he's doing if hes one expert village you usless twats

  • ha ha perfact fucking slug ... twat!

  • yah idk he doesnt seem like a good welder it sounds really bad

  • Why would you tack on the same side as you're gonna weld like that? =|

  • @BlackAsh Because you don't want to see the tacks on the other side.

  • Needs more commentary about speed, motion, etc.

  • If any of you think your going o learn to weld by watching this, your sadly mislead. First of all this clown doesn't have a clue. Secondly, the video doesn't show a thing and he shows you the back side of the metal, why because his weld is crap. You can see that from the inconsistent penetration pattern.

  • good video but I can barely hear it

  • Hello Mike Rodges,

How you did not explain the welding technique of the two plates by holding the gun.

How do you weld two pieces of metal to weld the two plates together? what about showing all of us how the gun should start weld in a direction?

  • spenny you are mistaken, backhand produces more build up ur right however build up doesnt mean strength if u go forehand it allows u to direct more heat therefore more penetration and less build up

  • may i ask why you pulled the weld rather than push it because ive been led to believe that this is a weaker weld. ive also experienced this "weaker weld" problem being a welder myself.
